Infinity Residences & Resort Koh Samui
Ranked #11 of 30 Hotels in Mae Nam

Reviewed 2 December 2012

I have spent 2 days at The Infinity Resort. No doubt that this place has a good comment and lot of positive review. The hotel is on top of the mountain. Once you are there, it is paradise! Some points that I want to share to public about this place.

Good,

1. Check in with good and warm welcome. A glass of Sparkling wine instead of any herb or juices as any hotel provide. The French speaking General Manager come to greet you up on arrival. Very personal touch service and he makes sure that our staying will be perfect by informing that he stay in the hotel and will be available 24 hours. he even come to say hello on the next day breakfast.
2. Room is great R 14, 2 bed room on top of ocean view, living room and big private pool. Big LCD screen TV for every room. Private wine fridge and full amenities provide. Amazing !!!
3. Restaurant located the top ocean view, I have my coffee during breakfast and forget everything when sending my eyes around the ocean, jungle and mountain from the top view
4. The best Pastries that I have ever had in my life. Croissant, Danish and all other bread serving very fresh, crispy and hot. They must have a best bakery chef in house. They should sell to other place because their quality is 5 stars really.
5. Restaurant service, both the guy who serving breakfast is very freidly and lady in the afternoon. I thought she is the manager but she is just waitress. Great service mind and helpful.
6. Very good hotel for honeymoon and couple traveller

Points to thing about,

1. The hotel is located on the mountain, not good for driving private car up and down. You need to use taxi or hotel transfer.
2. Thai / Western snack are great. I would recommended but only fish in the western dish is not fresh. Please be sure that when you order the Western snack. Other items on the dish is great.
3. One early evenig my friends come for happy hour at the top restaurant and the girl from th reception shouting behind me for asking some question. I think it is a bit rude, should come to me closely and a bit more gentle. It is too far to talk to the customer. But I understand I have no problem about this just comment from my feeling.
3. I do not have chance for Spa. But they talk a lot about good quality of Spa over here
4. Not good for old and wheel people at all

Overall, I have agrea time staying with Infinity. Thanks alot for the team and management who give me a walm welcome. Staff who provide a great service. I would recommned this hotel for any honeymoon, couple and the one who want to escape the city.

Room Tip: Room 14R is a great type of the room@

One could not choose a better name for an outstanding location overlooking the north western coast of Koh Samui. Apartments equipped with western style furniture blended with Thai decoration offer a very private place to relax in your own pool, enjoying a spectacular view to Koh Phangan and Koh Tao.
The nearby beach of Maenam is unspoiled with a few local restaurants and bars offering drinks and food at local rates. Only a few minutes away by car to Fishermans Wharf and about 30 minutes to Chaweng Beach allow diving into the touristy places if one is looking for that.
We just enjoyed the local area and took a car and motorbikes to explore the island. Getting down to the nearby beach is possible even without a car because the crew is absolutely great, brings you downhill and offers a perfect service to make your stay more than comfortable.
We only missed the gym which was about to be finished. However, for us a perfect reason to come back and enjoy our workout.

So we got a very good deal for our accommodation so I can't be too overly critical.

Firstly, the website pictures are definitely as good when you arrive - views to die for, immaculate presentation and rooms huge and amazing views again from every room!

the drive up the huge driveway to the hotel is a bit scary I must admit - but luckily my husband is a good driver so tackled it with no problem !

breakfast is off a menu, but was sufficient and there was a choice of what you wanted. But the flies were a big problem when we stayed so had to eat quick !

it's a long drive from Chaweng say 30mins so A car hire is a must unless you plan to get the hotel to taxi you around but it wasnt worth it for us as we like drive around the island.

the staff were very friendly and welcoming and made you feel at home.

Would we stay again - well probably not, it's too far away from the action for us. BUt if you are looking for total relaxation - yes definitely stay here!

My wife, 2 children and I stayed here for 5 nights in October/November 2012 after taking up a discount offer online. Having paid relatively little, our expectations prior to arriving were somewhat subdued, thinking that it would never be as good as the advertising described. After arriving we weren't just surprised, but completely blown away.

The resort, being built on the side of a very steep mountain, has simply magnificent, uninterrupted views looking out north over the Gulf of Thailand, while looking hard left and right you are immediately aware that you are buried deep in the Koh Samui jungle. I really can't find the words to describe this because there aren't any. You have to see it to appreciate it.

We were fortunate enough to have found excellent clear weather, which helped. Temperatures were in the low 30's Celsius, and humidity would have been around a tolerable (for this location and time of year) 70-80%.

I'll get the few negatives out of the way. The resort is not 100% complete, which isn't really that apparent unless you go looking for it. Being an architect, I'm probably more switched on to this. However, they have gone to great lengths to ensure that this is not an issue for guests by completing and maintaining the exterior. The gardens and lawns are all immaculately kept and a real credit to the management and staff. A nice touch is how they have landscaped the transition from resort garden to natural jungle.

The resort's common areas are also incomplete at this stage except for reception and restaurant. The spa/massage facility is conducted from a yet to completed apartment (but you wouldn't know it when the masseuse is digging her thumbs deep into your shoulder blade!).

It's not the most family orientated place, although the charming staff were all wonderful towards our young son and daughter, making them feel very special. The swimming pools are rather austere but subtly integrated into the landscaping and with the restaurant. The water is rather shallow (well under 1.8 metres) and unheated.

If you're a young or older couple, honeymooners, etc, and you are looking for a quiet and relaxing place to holiday, Infinity would be perfect, IMO. At night it's dead quiet and you are well away from the airport and aircraft flight paths. Road traffic noise is too far to notice.

A few other minor quibbles included us having 4 hand basins in our room, but not one bar of soap (plenty of bath gel and shampoo, though). While you wouldn't go there to watch TV, of course, the channel selection was too limited with basic foreign TV services, and a collection of Thai channels which appeared to show little except tacky variety shows and cheesy soap operas. No childrens channel, unfortunately.

Beach access was strictly by vehicle via the incredibly steep concrete road, but the staff were always keen to ferry us up and down on request at no charge. They were also impeccably punctual.

Moving around the resort certainly tests your lung capacity and leg muscles, but again, a simple call to reception saw an electric golf buggy outside your room in minutes with a smiling driver only too eager to take you on board. Hang on when going uphill!

Architecturally, the photos of the resort speak for themselves. Very minimalist and modern in design with white walls, large areas of glass and little ornamentation. For an architect, it really is a paradise within a paradise and a credit to the design and planning skill of the architectural and engineering team. Construction detailing and quality were very high and better than other resorts and hotels I've seen in SE Asia.

The staff were all extremely friendly and tried to be as professional as possible. The English was definitely an issue at times with some staff, but it really wasn't a problem for us and communicating was no more difficult compared to more cosmopolitan Bangkok where we stayed immediately after Samui.

A special tribute from us to Kek is well deserved. He was always patient and on hand to assist us, extremely courteous, great with the kids and always keen to offer information when showing us around his beautiful island home.

The outside restaurant was generally excellent. Great cocktails, reasonably priced, and breakfasts were plentiful (if identical day after day). Dinners were by candle light. The menu was a little limited, but the quality of the food, given the remoteness of the location, was terrific. Do mention if you don't like food too spicy, as the Thai chilli really has some punch if you're not prepared for it. They do very good Western foods as well. The pasta Bolognese and creamy fish soup were both excellent. The waiting staff spoke reasonable English and were wonderfully polite and professional. It's worth mentioning the view again because this restaurant flaunts it like nowhere else. During the day the flies were a little annoying, though, and needing a toilet meant a trip back to our room.

Our room was a highlight for us. We had a two level duplex with two bedrooms with ensuites and private pool downstairs, and living/dining space with kitchen upstairs. Entry was from the upper level. There was also a laundry space but no appliances. The open terrace was to the north taking maximum advantage of you know what - those stupendous sea views. We didn't use the kitchen facilities all that much, apart from the coffee machine and fridge, but if we stayed longer I think we would have motivated ourselves into cooking up a storm - because this kitchen would certainly allow it. A variety of teas and coffee pods were provided, but no milk - not even UHT or creamer. The fridge was stocked with some goodies which were not exorbitantly priced for such a place.

Our apartment was spotlessly clean and, continuing the resort's architectural theme, beautifully appointed in minimalist modern furnishings including Le Corbusier lounges, bent glass coffee table and Eero Saarinen dining chairs. The rug and artwork complimented the furniture. Beds were comfortable, nice ensuites with good baths and showers. Rooms were maintained daily to a very high standard.

Rooms had individual air conditioning controls and the system was highly effective. All rooms had ceiling fans also. It was disappointing to see so many external a/c condenser units on the roofs of apartments below ours. They have gone to so much trouble to avoid cluttering the views, including thatching the roofs, that it was a pity to see these unsightly units out in the open. I did notice that one of them was screened (visible from the restaurant) and I hope they get around to doing the lot.

Our nightly walks back down to our room from reception after a daily outing or from the restaurant were another highlight and we occasionally were fortunate enough to see fire flies emerging from the adjacent jungle and the kids loved making friends with the harmless geckoes that lurked around the night lighting outside each apartment.

At all times we felt safe and secure and staff always respected our privacy.

We shouldn't be too critical of the lack of family facilities as the resort didn't appear to be orientated towards these kind of guests; having a higher emphasis on creating a quiet and relaxing atmosphere for a more mature type of clientele. There are less than 50 apartments in the entire resort so it's never going to feel crowded.

If you're the type that likes night life, you need to rely on the resort transporting you to places like Fisherman's Village and Chaweng by SUV. This was very reasonably priced at a little over AUD$20 an hour. Transport was very flexible. When we asked to tour the island, we simply booked the SUV and Kek for the day and then made it up as we went along using his extensive knowledge of the island's many attractions.

The beach below the resort at Bang Po was quite good - although its standard is a bit of a step down from the upmarket feel of the resort. The sea water was just the right temperature for us. There is a 7/11 store at the Infinity turnoff from the main road in which you can stock up on drinks and food for ridiculously cheap prices. The beach sand was clean and extended about 50 or so metres into the sea at high tide. The resort has an arrangement with a beach restaurant called 'Footprints' run by Janet, who originates from England. Toilets, beach furniture and a couple of kayaks are always on hand for use by resort guests at no charge. Food and drink prices were very cheap, by Australian standards. A short stroll up the beach to the east took us to an outdoor seafood restaurant which was a wonderful experience, eating on the beach, feet in sand. I don't remember the exact name of that restaurant but it's about 100 metres east of the Infinity road intersection with the main road and has an illuminated blue sign.

Good quality restaurants are found in Chaweng, which requires a car ride there. You could also try the Fishermans Village which is closer and requires less effort to negotiate your way through the main street, but the selection isn't as comprehensive.

Overall, our stay on Koh Samui was truly magnificent and one to remember. Infinity was an essential part of that and we recommend it to others - as we have already done with family and friends here at home.

We would certainly return there if visiting Samui again. I hope Jurgen and the staff read this because we would again like to say a big "THANK YOU" for helping to make our holiday so memorable.

Room Tip: Rooms on the restaurant level have less privacy than those below.

We stayed here for 7 days and can not fault the rooms and the magnificent view. I was disappointed to find the gym which the resort promised would be opened in June on the reviews was still no existant. The view means you are up a very steep hill which is not walkable and the cost of the hotel transport while very efficient and good is quite an addition to your bill especially if you go out more than once a day. Um at the reception was fantastic and made sure that everything happened but it was sometimes a little difficult to make yourself understood when she or the Manager were not around. The main restaurant and pool area is so quiet as there only a few guests and there was really no atmosphere and no umbrellas. The service there was great and the food was very good and well priced for a resort of this level. We did find out on the 4th day that you can be taken down the bottom of the hill by transport and they have a deal with a great pub called Footprints where you can use the beach chairs and there food and drinks are great. The beach is also good here and we enjoyed it much better than going to the more popular areas where we had problems with sea lice. I really think the resort would be better to get the rest of the rooms up and running and lower the price until they get all the facilities up to scratch as the cost is a little over the top without them. We did enjoy our stay here but you really need to be wanting to get it away from it all. There was certainly not a lot for the kids to do at the resort.

Room Tip: All rooms have amazing views and pools so I dont think it matters too much where you are.
