We have recently returned from a heavenly 11 night stay at The Santiburi Resort. Our party of four arrived in the evening , and our welcome was warm , friendly and relaxed...this vibe continued throughout our stay.
The GM ,Willy proved to be a most gracious host, who made sure that we were well looked after- he was assissted by his wonderful team of people, namely the charming Pimpa in guest relations who with her lovely manner proved to be indispensible, Tawat, with his great sense of humour, the fantastic chef Nui,who prepared special thai meals for us - they were sublime ! Nor can we forget the lovely Apple, Phan and Luck....who really made our stay memorable with their warmth and humour.
The Resort is beautiful, the beach calm and relaxing, the pool stunning and the gardens lovely. We stayed in a garden villa, which was wonderfully placed between the gardens and the beach. We have stayed in many 5 *hotels and this is one of the rare times that we have had nothing to complain about.
We have been to Samui before, and stayed at different resorts, but Santiburi stands out , and although I use tripadvisor alot, I never felt the need to join and write a review....but here it is!

We were very disappointed with this hotel. To begin, with if you are traveling with small children ( 2 to 10) there is danger everywhere! The balconies in the main lobby have very low rails and any child or young adult can easily fall into the 8 meter water feature below.
The rooms are unnecessarily multileveled which makes tripping and falling effortless especially if you wake up in the middle of the night to use the toilet. Wooden beds have very sharp corners and so does all the furniture inside the villas.
If you are on your honeymoon or just want some type of privacy there is NONE. Most villas are so close to each other that you must draw down all the blinds ( there are 10 of them) day and night so the staff and other guests don't get a full view of the inside of your room.
The breakfast buffet is substandard and their choice for authentic thai food is poor.
The staff is unmotivated and unenthusiastic, with some exceptions of course.
Otherwise the rooms were clean, the beach area was well taken care of and the pool area was well kept.

the best hotel for service, food and accommodation that i have every been in...if you go to kosamui you have to stay here...if you are looking for romance and the beautiful thailand and have a few days to travel...go to KOH TAO which is an hour boat journey and the little island in front of koh tao.

We spent in Santiburi the last week of August, after an exhausting China tour.
We had the the luck of being upgraded to a really superb Beach Pool Villa. (The private pool is really an oversized Jacuzzi).
Santiburi is a classy resort, where you can enjoy perfect relax. The beach never looks crowded and there's nothing better than lazying all day in a hammock under the shade of palm trees.
Of course you can play tennis or golf or work out in the gym, but you'd miss being pampered in the beach by the staff with fresh water, fruit and ice cream and sweets.

Water was warm but not crystal clear, no Maldives, but beach is nonetheless very good.
Breakfast is really amazing, the swimming pool huge, the gardens fantastic. Restaurants are expensive by Samui standards, but not in absolute terms, so we ended up having most of our dinners in the resort. You can find cheaper alternatives along the beach or in Fisherman's Village, not far away.

Weather was cloudy for three days, that's all went wrong.

This is a good Hotel/Resort.
The beach is fantastic. Our intention was to have a very calm and relaxed holiday. This is the place to be if one wants a relaxed place to stay.
The food needs some improvement.
The service is not at the top, but in holidays our standard evaluation is more relaxed also.
Comparing with other parts of the world the service is below the 5 star level.

Brief summary of our recent experience at the Santiburi: We are a couple with discerning tastes, travelling in August with kids aged 4 (boy) and 8 (girl). We all loved the Santiburi. Spent most of the time on the beach, but also at the pool. Went on some excursions in Koh Samui (to waterfalls, elephant rides etc) and also partook in some of the Santiburi's events and theme dinners. What a great holiday!

Things to note:
- Our kids were probably on balance a bit bored. The hotel is laid back and classy, and very international. This meant quite sedate and people kept themselves to themselves. Mixing (which our children craved!) was mostly within language groups (eg English-speakers, German-speakers, French-speakers). While we were there, most of the kids were German-speaking and so it was hard for ours to make friends initially. Solution? Move downmarket....?!?!?
- Golf is separate, not near the hotel. We didn't do it.
- Beach restaurants are good and you can feed 4 for 1000 baht easily. Whereas in the hotel it's 4x dearer. But still the food is ok value in the resort. For example, the AMAZING thai poolside buffet themed night was 1250 per person which is 20 pounds which is superb for the best buffet I've ever been to
- We stayed in a 2 bed suite, which was great. although our adult double as o the mezzanine floor... Result: Nice living room, comfortable kids, not much privacy for the adults. Maybe go in the bungalows and share one room next time...?
- Lots of things are free / included, such as sailing and tennis
- Staff are incredible. Out of this world.

Highly recommended. Please feel free to shoot questions.

These points were shared with the management.

- The pool is old with missing floor tiles (rough surface).
- They have serious problem with frogs, roaches and small salamanders, where you can easily find it in the rooms; bathrooms, shower stalls on the walls etc.
- Problem experienced with hot waters, AC controls, Lighthing etc. Despite the fact we were staying at their premier villas.
- You need to be in the newer side (closer to the beach) to get a good value Villas, as the rest of the properly is old and the villas has a serious mildew smell.
- Unpleasant smell was noticeable in the breakfast serving area.
- The concierge or lack thereof, has no knowledge of the area and provided the wrong information on restaurants, places to see, amenities on the island etc.
- They need to improve on the availability of the water sport activities. They have only one catamaran and one windsurfing board with a long queue
