“Relaxing and secluded hotel”

Truly amazing place. Beautifully decorated individual villas with great views and spacious balconeys. Lush tropical landscape. Attentive and friendly staff. Awesome pool. Beach is more rocky than the Chaweng Beach but much more secluded. Pricey but worth it. Makes me want to check out other Orient-Express hotels.

The resort itself is typical Asian set up and has potential but it is need of better maintenance and service. We stayed in a two bedroom residence that sorely needs upgrading. The floors are VERY slippery, the post at the entrance eaten away by white ants, the outdoor furniture weathered and anything material smells musty. Our pool did not appear to be cleaned once during our stay and was slimy on the tiles. The aircon in both bedrooms needed the engineer to fix it, the tv in one bedroom wasn't tuned properly and required the engineer, there was no kettle in the kitchen, only coffee machine, the t bags were not replaced once. We requested a top sheet for our beds because the doona was too hot with the malfunctioning air conditioner. This required two calls to housekeeping before being done. The hair dryer supplied blew only cold air and was so weak as to be useless. The residence is described as two bedroom, kitchen and private out door area and pool connected by outdoor steps but it doesn't say that bedrooms one and two are separated by 31 steps and 4 landings, same to top entrance and to bottom area. The whole villa is way too spread out up the hillside making it very disjointed. not portrayed well on the website at all. The private beach is rocky and not conducive to swimming. The residence is also a long way from the main lobby, pool and eating areas. Buggies can be rung for but they take ages. And that brings me to the service. As on other reviews, the service is REALLY slow. Some of the staff try hard but it takes forever to get a drink and food service is slow. Many of the staff do not seem to understand requests. Cocktails arrive warm and after a long wait. The main pool has a section of tiles missing. Food is of average quality and the main courses are very small. Except for breakfast, which is good, we ate out for all other meals. Unfortunately we had prepaid for our 7 day stay and when we wanted to leave early, the booking site said we could get a refund with a half day penalty but the hotel would only offer half refund of remaining stay. At nearly $1000 a night that is $500 Aus a day to cancel!
For a hotel claiming to be 5 star and charging prices in accordance, this hotel does not deliver what it promises. The staff try hard but either need more training or more staff. It is not relaxing to have to be asking for tbags, sheets, aircon etc. attitude of management was helpful at first but in the end not willing to make concessions. Very disappointing experience

We stayed at Napasai from 18th to 20th June as the final stop in a 2 week holiday round Koh Samui and Koh Phangan.

The resort was beautifully peaceful and everyone was very friendly. In addition, there were lovely touches including the refreshments round the pool during the day and the beautiful fire torches in the evening. We didn't eat there in the evening, preferring to go to Fishermans village or local restaurants, but the breakfasts were on a par with other 5* breakfast buffets (though could have done with a bit more local fruit) and the lunches in the beach bar were lovely (though again I think they could do with more local dishes, such as pad thai and thai salads, and less sandwiches/burgers etc).

The room did, however, slightly let down our stay. We had a bit of a problem with ants - finding them in the bed on more than one occasion, and the air con, even at its coldest, was nowhere near as good as other hotels we stayed at. We set it at 16 degrees, but it felt like 30, and there was no air con or ventilation in the bathroom so that got very hot and sticky. We also had a bit of a problem with the plug in the bathroom which was broken, so when using the hairdryer it kept coming out and turning off. Finally, the door to the room itself was very hard to lock/unlock/open, and didn't feel completely secure (though its such a quiet and well staffed resort that we never worried). Overall the rooms were fine but fairly small and basic, and could do with a refurb (especially the bathroom) and some luxury touches here and there, to keep up with other 5* hotels. I would rate the rooms 4* and the rest of the resort 5*.

As we were there only 2 nights we did not feed any of this back at the time (I am sure they would have offered us another room if we had, as the staff were very attentive and accommodating), however we wrote to them on our return and they promptly wrote a very apologetic note and compensated for the faults in the room. In addition they assured us that the ants situation is due to the high temperatures and humidity of the season, and the week we were there they had a particular problem and have now increased the frequency and intensity of their pest control measures. They assure us it is now under control.

As it is, I wouldn't recommend or go back as ultimately we visited better hotels for less. However if the rooms underwent a refurbishment I might, as the rest of the resort is lovely and the staff are great. .

Despite the mixed reviews on various websites we had eagerly awaited our stay at Napasai. Our excitement quickly vanished as soon as we arrived to the hotel. The hotel sits on a steep incline which was not disclosed in any of the websites (and not great to find as my husband had a foot fracture). The rooms had no privacy whatsover (as we were walking to our room we could hear the conversations our fellow vacationers who here inside there villas with doors closed). Our room was in dismal shape, clogged sink, slipery floors and poorly cleaned. The staff was rude and unwelcoming, it was the only place we visited we felt this way. The beach was rocky and maybe a good size for a four-year old but not if you like to swim or walk along the beach. It is thus that we checked-out within 1-hour of our arrival and went to the W Koh Samui Retreat which had the privacy, charm and luxury we were looking for our honeymoon.

When vegetarians travel to Thailand they are prepared for limited options. The standard menu at the restaurants in Napasai were no different. What was different was when we shared our problem with them we were offered a new vegetarian menu the next day. Not just a couple of dishes but an entirely new menu! We overheard other guests at the hotel appreciate the effort. Would thank Sascha for making it possible.

If you want to explore the island, take a drop from the hotel cart to the main road and the restaurant at the corner will help with renting a car or bikes.

The property is more beautiful than snaps on the internet. We read feedback on slow service at the pool but they seemed to have sorted it out. This is a comparatively smaller property hence perhaps a small staff is required which results in slightly slower service in rooms. So simply ask for what you want in the room buffering for the extra time.

Room Tip: We chose to upgrade (at extra cost) as our original selection of room couldn't accommodate 2 kid...

Absolutely stunning setting. Level of service from staff was incredible and nothing was too much trouble. It is a little out of the way but that suited us fine. Amazing pool and private beach. Highly recommend for luxurious rest and relaxation.

The hotel is a bit isolated, but its quiet and relaxing. We got upgraded to a beach pool villa which was AMAZING! Spacious and private. You can enjoy the most amazing sunset from the pool or hammock. This was our favourite time of the day.

The service and staff of the hotel were very nice and extremely helpful, especially the concierge.

A lot of steps to take since the hotel is on a cliff, but we needed the exercise!
