Stayed there for a week to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary with our 2 young children.

We had a most enjoyable time at the resort and in Koh Samui. The island is not as developed as Phuket, it has a rather laid back feel to it. People here are generally warm and friendly.

We booked a cottage suite with buffett breakfast included. The suites are very quiet and secluded, giving you a sense of privacy. There are 2 low sofas in the lounge that were converted every night into beds for our kids. There is a 'sala' outside in the courtyard which is perfect for relaxing. We also had a private dinner served there for our anniversary - at no extra cost.

The resort is relatively secluded, but fairly close to Bophut and the restaurants at Fisherman's Village. Would recommend 'Smile House' for dinner where you can have freshly cooked seafood.

We booked a rental car to get around the island and to shop in Chaweng. If you want to save money you can easily rent motorbikes or a jeep - lots of European tourists do this.

We enjoyed the big breakfasts at the resort. They have a French chef, so the pastries taste like real French pastries. The food at Napasai is good, but we only dined there once for dinner. They have one restaurant and one cafe. The restuarant has theme nights, BBQ, Thai set menu, etc. But be warned it is rather pricy.

The housekeeping staff are especially heplful and friendly. We were fortunate with the weather, warm sunny days with cooling seabreezes. Napasai is not cheap, but would recommend it to couples wanting a quiet romantic getaway.

We stayed in a beach front villa for 5 night for our honeymoon. It was picture perfect. The villa's were amazing. The staff was incredibly attentive. Food was wonderful. I would highly recommend this as a honeymoon destination. I was a little disappointed in Koh Samui. I was expecting it to be a little more upscale or nicer. However, if you're looking for a relaxing, tropical vacation, you can't go wrong with staying on the grounds of Napasi.

Sorry but Koh Samui is a bit of a dump! I am sure it was wonderful ten to twenty years ago but the uncontrolled building all round the coast has taken away most of any inherent charm. Chaweng has a great beach but frankly is pretty tacky with little to commend it other than a few good restaurants, mainly along one small street. The potential trips out are little better ,with the highlights being the pretty unspectacular waterfalls and the rather gaudy wats that manage to be as touristy as the island and the sad elephant rides with half starved dusty, tiny, below par elephants. Sorry but apart from a few clubs can anyone tell me why one would come here?
Well I can suggest a couple of answers.
Firstly, the weather is fantastic and the rains come later then anywhere else in Thailand and most places in SE Asia.
Secondly they have three of four world class hotel resorts and specifically the Napasai.
It's position is a very secluded one. Once you get there you are pretty stuck. Frankly, there is absolutely nowhere to walk to. and local taxis are extremely expensive. When you get one you will generally face a longish journey to either Bhoput or Chaweng.
So in reality you are rather forced to eat most of the time at the Napasai. Now that's not so bad, as the food is varied and absolutely superb. However it is very expensive (especially the wine) and most evening meals for two will set you back more than £100-£150 with wine. They have a cheaper alternative (also excellent) by the seafront but even there, you will be very lucky to escape for under £60 for the two of you.
Breakfast is absolutely fantastic. The physical experience of the outdoor eating plus the wonderful service plus the quality of the fayre.
The rooms? Well we had a 2-roomed villa for half the time (villa 6) and it was absolutely fabulous with a delightful private pool though it was very isolating. Not sure it would suit everyone but would be ideal for a family of 4 and in fact quite a cheap option. Liked the instant avaiability of the golf carts, You phoned and then it was a race to get up to the gate of the villa before it arrived.
The second half was spent in a seafront cottage 103 and this is a really delicious alternative. The sound of the sea. The views, the cool breeze on the balcony and
the great bathroom. Liked the VERY comfortable bed with crisp lovely sheets. Room service was impeccable. Complimentary fruit each day.
Ms Chebani the assistant manager was superb attentive and always available and dealt efficiently and calmly with any requirements. She should be complemented - they are lucky to have her. The staff everywhere are wonderful in terms of charm, enthusiasm and helpfulness but here is the one criticism.
The Napasai have got to get a handle on their poor language skills. This is really totally unacceptable in a 4/5 star hotel resort. The reception desk is always staffed with delightful girls who try so hard to be helpful. But they are totally undertrained. So many difficult situations would be avoided, if they had better communication skills. While we were there we had two problems ( one with working the complicated tv & video controls in the villa and the other when sorting out the bill at the end) and both were totally avoidable. Ms Chebani had to sort out a difficult situation with another customer caused by poor communication and other vosotors complained to us about this.
The pool is beautiful and a real pleasure. Service is excellent and the seating around the edge or on the grass by the beach is top rate. The spa is also very good. It was a real treat lying by the pool reading, being constantly treated to complimentary massages, drinks and cold fruit snacks. A great touch.
Laptops were available in the excellent bar and wi fi was set throughout the complex. Maybe one good idea would be to allow guests to hire the laptops and be allowed to take them to their own rooms. As with the FCC in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

Truly a wonderful place but a gilded cage and you will need lots of books and for that matter lots of money!

Napsai is simply the best place ever. The staff are absolutely fantastic and charming, the food is great and the fact that it is outside the main tourist areas of Koh Samui you will either love or hate. My boyfriend and I were in need of total R&R and that it what we got 100%. We stayed in one of the 2 bed pool villas and loved the fact that we also had access to our own kitchen and lounge area.

My boyfriend and I were involved in a car accident whilst we were there and if it wasn't for the intervention of the General Manager and his staff we would surely not have understood what was going on. They totally took control of the situation.

Before I went to the Napasai I could never understand why people would want to visit the same place year after year as this is something I (we) don't do but we've already booked to spend Christmas and the New Year there and we simply can't wait!

Go, you will not be disappointed!!

I have stayed on Samui more than 20 times and I have come to the conclusion this is the best hotel on the island. But there are some important things to know about staying there. (1) It is nowhere near the heart of the action on Samui, but located in a tranquil spot on the north coast -- however it is easy to drive to Chaweng if you feel the need. So a car hire is useful as taxis are absurdly expensive on Samui. (2) The quality of the food is excellent, but the menu is somewhat limited and the Thai food is extremely expensive --- this is another reason for hiring a car. (3) Almost all the rooms are delightful: pleasant decor, privacy, great views. But the real bargain there is the pool villas which have two or three bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens, private pools and direct sea access. I say "sea" rather than "beach" as there is no sand but rocks instead. However there are some advantages to this: there is no foot traffic to pass the villas on the beach so they are extremely private. (4) The only real downside with the villas is the stairs as they are built on a steep hill. However some villas have a lot more stairs than others, so when I book I always specify that I want to rent the highest villa number available (12, 13 or 14) and avoid villas between 6 and 11 if possible.

We stayed at Napasai for a 3 night period in the middle of a rather hectic travel schedule - and it felt as if we had been transported to another world. After being collected at the ferry port, we took a short drive to Napasai resort which is at the north of Koh Samui situated on their private beach. We were welcomed with cold towels and refreshments, before being led to our beautiful sea view cottage. The cottages really allow you some privacy - you feel separate from the rest of the resort. We spent a few evenings enjoying the sunset from our cottage's balcony.

Fresh fruit was delivered to our room, and the breakfast buffet was large and offered everything you can think of, including local dishes which were great to try. We also impressed by the room service which we used one evening. Dining in the Lai Thai restaurant at night was beautiful - watching the reflection of the moon and trees over the infinity pool. We also ate at the beachfront restaurant for lunch once, and had cocktails on our deckchairs from the pool bar - we were impressed with the standard of food/drink, and especially the service we received all around the resort. The staff were really helpful and suggested things to see on the island on the day we rented one of the small bikes to get around the island. They also helped set up a windsurfer for my partner to try at the beach - nothing was too much trouble.

We didn't have a chance to try any spa treatments, but they looked tempting. We spent any spare time we had lapping up the view from a deckchair on the beach, or around the pool. It was always tough to choose between them... Unfortunately we were only there for 3 nights - I wish it had been longer. The weather was perfect - cool in the evenings, and probably around 30 degrees in the day - I think February was a great time to go.

The beauty of the location, and the peaceful atmosphere at Napasai set it apart from the other places we visited.

  • Liked — Extremely comfortable, luxurious, private cottages
  • Disliked — There was no wi fi in our cottage, but there was in the communal areas.
