Great Place to relax!

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 27 Nov 2012
We stayed at Hacienda Beach Resort as a stop over from Phangan as we had to catch the plane out of Samui the next day. We chose the Hacienda because it was close to the catamaran arriving from Samui and we were not disappointed with the choice. The bungalows are small but very clean and freshly decorated. The beds were comfortable and the linens were crisp and felt like they were brand new...same with the soft fluffy beach and bath towels. Overall, the bungalows were very comfortable and quiet...just what we like.

We arrived in the early afternoon so we could sit on the beach and catch some sun...a beautiful beach with great deck chairs. It was pretty quiet so we had no problem with getting one pair of the 6 (I think) pairs of deck chairs and umbrellas out on the beach. No crowds, no jet skis, just the sound if waves rolling in on the beach...bliss.

If you want to stay in Samui, don't want the noise of Chawang or other parts of the island then check out Hacienda...I wish we stayed more than just a night. Oh and by the way, I agree with David's philosophy of breakfast...a lot of times we don't really want to get out of bed but because we paid for breakfast, feel obliged to trudge out to the restaurant and in some cases, be disappointed by the offering. So better not to pay for it and then have the option to either eat there or not.

Thank you so much for your review, yes as you said, one night was really not enough, I hope you will come back and stay longer next time ! Anyway yu will always be welcome here.
As you said about, yes we prefer not include it in the price of the room as lot of people don't want to have it everyday. Lot of hotels make it pay in the room price and serve ordinary breakfast, because they make a lot for everybody, we prefer make customers pay when they want breakfast and serve them good quality breakfast.

This resort that was just renamed Hacienda beach due to new management. We just loved resting on this beautifull beach. Bungalows were just refurnished and are comfortable. The people there are really friendly and helpfull. Wish you as much a good time as what we had on our week end break from HK!

This place is worth staying in only if you are lucky enough to get the chalet ON the beach. (There are chalets BY the beach also).

The good -

The view, wow ! Don't have words to describe the view from our room.. fantastic !

The beach - clean, shallow, safe with lots of small restaurants scattered across to chill out in the evenings. The food in all of these places is generally very good.

The average -

The " chalet " itself is just a small room with a double bed, bathroom and a verandah. But it was clean and the mattress was soft. Nothing fancy in the room to speak of.

The bad -

A little pricey. Also breakfast was not included in the price.

Don't expect room service, and be prepared to carry your own luggage. ( although the owner did help us on our way out )

No complimentary stuff whatsoever - not even tea or coffee in the room and no soap/shampoo in the bathroom.

tip - just outside the gate, there is a small restaurant serving good breakfast at much lesser price,. Also there are bikes available on hire and tours/ taxis just outside which are far cheaper.

Overall - If you are smart enough, this place is worth staying in - but only in the chalet ON the beach.

Room tip: queen size chalet on the beach

Thank you for your review, we hope to see u again next time !
For your information, when u stayed in our hotel, we just bought it in the beginning of august.
Before, this hotel was aging and not really maintained, but now we made lot of changes in decoration and furnitures everywhere in the rooms but in the lobby and in the restaurant, we changed all beds and put king size beds in all the rooms.

The reason why we don"t include breakfast is because about 50% of the customers are not interested in having breakfast because some come here to relax and sleep late in the morning as our place is very quiet. So we don't want to make them pay for something they don't choose.

Concerning the shampoo and soap in the room, we are having agreement with a local cosmetic company which produce natural and ecological products and will propose them for free in the rooms soon.

Concerning motorbikes we rent, maybe they are a little bit more expensive (200 baht instead of 150 bath) than others here in the village, but there is one important point that tourist don't know here : the insurance. We rent the motorbikes of a serious company here owned by french people and all the motorbikes have full insurance, it can be very important in case of accident. Here in Thailand, most of Thai people don"t have insurance and some Thai renting companies don't have too, this is the reason of the the price difference.
About the tours we propose, we have, like all the others agencies in the village, some commissions on it if we sell them and the percentage are the same for us than for them.
We just selected some serious tour companies and made inspection tours before in order to make our customers happy of their tour : we selected only serious companies, which have a maximum of security, which have insurance, which provide safety material, which are not tourists' factories with over booked boats...
I hope these information will help others to make their choice.

Regards ,

We stayed for 2 weeks over Christmas and generally enjoyed our holiday experience up until the final day. The complimentary breakfast turned out to be misleading. We were unaware that there was a price limit which was per room/per couple (still not sure). We were lead to believe it was an individual price. We had not budgeted for this inflated add on charge on our final bill. We found Kris rude particularly when he suggested that we had been 'greedy and wasted the food ordered'. Unfortunately we do not speak Thai and sometimes was given food that we did not order and the staff were reluctant or did not understand to return to the kitchen.
Kris claimed that we were the only guests to be misled. I cannot comment on other guest’s bills but I know that I would not stay here again. We were not allowed to raise this issue with the resident owner. My recommendation would be to visit Maenam, maybe for a shorter stay. Definitely eat at any of the amazing local and beach front restaurants where the food is superb and wonderful value.

Room tip: Beach front bungalow for lovely view and not so overlooked. Some rooms are overlooked by the restaurant and reception areas.
