Our first time to Thailand, the whole trip done from internet research. Having read pages of reviews we chose this hotel, wow we are so glad we did, what an absolutely great 10 days, even now we have left many days ago, my wife and I just cannot get over what a great time we had. Ok the basics, this is a quieter hotel, definitely not a party hotel, away from mainstream area about a mile up a track/road. It is not totally isolated as we thought it may have been, you can walk on the beach to a few bars/restaurants and it is easy it go out further afield. This applies to a lot of hotels/villas, the ones ín town' are full on in town, it depends what you want. The hotel is set in lush green gardens, it has an environmental policy which we found totally acceptable, they grow some of there own flowers and herbs etc for the hotel, the pool is not heavily chlorinated etc, towels can be changed at any time but they are not changed for the sake of it.
The hotel is not new, there are certainly little things that just show this, however the place is kept immaculately clean, it is a total delight to walk to breakfast by the beach etc, just a few things look dated or worn, there was a temporary water filter in use by the pool, it could have been covered up or hidden away, but its just sat there, spoiling a pleasant surrounding, trivia I know !.
If this place was rated on its staff it would be a 10 star, just a delight to be around and so helpful, they took us to the main road on one of there golf buggies on a few occasions and to pick up water from the local shops, what more can you ask.
We booked with the hotel directly which was a smart move, there was someone to meet us at the airport ( prettiest one in the world) and took us straight to the hotel, that was in the price, we could not have had a better start.
We where met with a cold drink, our bags taken to our room. As we had asked for a room with a view, we where driven up the path in a buggy, as it is a very steep pathway, we are in our 50,s but fit, we walked this easily 3 or 4 times a day, the exercise did us good, however if you do not want this, book one of the garden rooms that are not in the same area.
The door was opened and all I can say is our breath was taken away, there are views and there are views, the bed had flowers on it with decorative swans, really was fantastic. watching the sun go down sitting in your own spa tub is just one of life's great pleasures and worth every step of the walk.
Breakfast covered all bases, fruits, cereals, basic cooked etc, staff again so helpful we sat having coffee for an hour most days, even skype'd our son whilst having bacon and eggs. We did not eat in the restaurant at night, we like to travel out, we found the bar to be a bit dark, there was a jazz player one night, he was really good but could hardly see him.
We hired a scooter from the hotel, so much easier than from hire shop, 6 pounds a day, bargain, again good thing was we had it one day missed a day, then if we wanted we took it from midday etc, all put on room bill, no handing over passports as you have to in many hire shops, just so easy, great way to see the island, just keep your eyes on the road and use common sense. There is a complimentary mini bus that will take you into the heart of town, runs a couple of times a day, they will drop you off anywhere on route. we used it into town and taxied back, last trip back 9..30pm by the bus.
One of the great things about the holiday was the total peace and quiet of the hotel, it is just in the most stunning setting, lush green, nice beach front ( not a swimming area), we went to the beach in town one day, hounded constantly by sellers and wild dogs, this is just the opposite, peaceful and serene, 25 mins later you can be in a street with a 100 bars if you wish, closer to hand is fisherman's village, bit of a tourist tacky trap but we went a few evenings, loads of eating places.
So after all that, what is there to say, stunningly quiet private hotel, we had a stunning room/view. Yes its not new, it does have its minor faults, floors creek, doors creek etc, but give me a place like this any day. Staff are great ( do not expect fluent English all the time). Will we go back, yes we will, looking now for when we can go again. !!!!!!!
