“Lovely hotel”
Reviewed 26 March 2013

Was a solo traveller at this resort which I didn't enjoy, it was quite far from the main town area. But no complaints about the resort or the service, I had a beautiful room, was on the upper level and was a large clean room, with everything I needed. I enjoyed the restaurant although a little pricey. As a part of my travel package I received a free cooking lesson which was okay, but a little rushed and as I was by myself I found it a little embarrassing cooking and eating in right by the walkway for other guests to get to the pool and beach. Also the recipe book they gave me at the end, didn't have the recipes in it which I cooked in the lesson. It was a quiet resort with mostly older people and honeymooning couples. Staff were happy to help in every way organizing tours for me and making changes when I unfortunately injured myself, staff were happy to drive me to the pharmacy on the golf buggy and were happy to change my room to one on the lower floor to make it easier for me. I would come back with friends. It is a little expensive to get transport from this resort to the fishermans market and the chewang beach. But would recommend it to my friends for the pool, beach and beautiful rooms.

We stayed at the Samui Buri in 2009 when it was run by a different management. The hotel seems to have undergone some refurbishment and all in all the changes have been for the better!

The location is great, it's very affordable and the rooms are spacious and well kept. However, we ran into some issues before even arriving. We booked almost 4 months in advance and just a few days before we were scheduled to get there, we received an email from the hotel stating that due to a technical problem, the hotel was overbooked and they would be transferring us to their sister property in Chaweng. A quick google search on the sister hotel showed that it was very VERY different from the Samui Buri and it was by no means a fair compropmise.

Needless to say, this situation caused us unnecessary stress just days before we were scheduled to set off for Koh Samui and although it was resolved (albeit after a few stern emails from my partner) and we were upgraded, we weren't even sure we'd have rooms waiting for us until we got to the hotel. Hopefully this was a one-off incident but certainly, it was something we had never experienced before and would prefer to never experience again.

The hotel's biggest plus points remains its rooms and location. The beach and pool are lovely and the rooms (especially the deluxe rooms with the pools access) are always something to look forward to after a "hard" day of water sports / exploring the lovely island of Samui. Maenam is a relatively quiet area and I prefer it to the hustle and bustle of Chaweng.

Where the hotel could massively improve is in its service quality (especially at the restaurant). I was quite surprised to be offered tea/coffee one day and completely forgotten the next 2 days only for the offer to re-emerge on the final day of our stay! While it was not a big deal, it was just one of the little issues that should not even exist in such a hotel. The staff often stood around talking to each other instead of being attentive to the guests, some of them rarely smiled and just generally didn't seem to want to be there. We had an issue with an extremely rude reception staff in 2009, she was so rude to us (for eg. she scolded us for being late for a cab we had ordered!) that we made a complaint only to have the issue quickly addressed by the former manager. It's just a shame that the service quality is nothing to praise even in 2013. That being said, I found the spa staff to be lovely and extremely helpful and I'd highly recommend a trip down to the spa (very affordable - the signature massage and the aloe vera after sun massage are great!).

Overall, it's an affordable, well located hotel in a quiet, relaxed area of Koh Samui. We did enjoy our 1st stay in 2009 but were expecting more when we returned in 2013. However, the hotel failed to impress us which is unfortunate given it has so much potential!

Room Tip: Deluxe room with pool access. The pool villa didnt seem worth it - too big to be cosy and the pool i...

Dear manik84,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review about your stay. I am happy to read thast your revisit to our resort was enjoyable.

Please allow me to express apologies for the situation regarding the overbooking email. Unfortunately it happens from time to time that hotels and resorts over book and are left with the only solution to relocate guests to other properties. Though comparable options were provided to you, none met your liking. We quickly found a solution to keep you here at Samui Buri where you could enjoy your vacation.

Comments regarding the services will be addressed with our service team for reivew.

I hope to welcome you back to Samui Buri in the near future.

Regards,
Jesse

Lovely hotel but only for couples or families. Staff very helpful and willing. My only gripe is on my last day I had to check out at 12 and I wasn't leaving until 4. It was not possible for me to have late checkout as they told me th hotel was full. To have a shower they took me to some outside showers by the tennis courts which were freezing cold and the place was full of Mosquitos!!! After When I asked where I could Could dry my hair they took me to a room on the 1 st floor which was empty and stripped of bed linen so......I wondered why I couldnt have had shower there.they didn't have an answer. Very dissointing!

Dear chickenhoot,

Greetings and thank you for taking the time to post a review about your stay. As standard with most hotels, check-out time is 12:00 to allow for preparations for the next guest check-in at 2:00pm. For guests who have a late flight and are required to leave the room at 12:00, we provide shower facilities in our sports center. We try to allow for late check-out, but it's not always possible during busy periods. I trust you understand. The Engineering team will look into the water temp and adjust if needed.

We hope to welcome you back to Samui Buri in the future!

Regards,
Jesse

Samui Buri is the perfect weekend retreat from busy Singapore. If you are looking for complete rest and quiet with absolutely beautiful beach and clear, clean water, Samui Buri is the place. Food is excellent, staff extremely polite and all is quiet, restful and spacious! Great to see the management engaged with the staff and guests, always making themselves visible around the resort. My only comment would be the music around the pool can vary from soft rock to dance - not the easiest listening.

We was in this hotel at January 2013. We stay 12 day. We was with our little baby. This hotel was good for us. We book Deluxe room (70sq m), but when we arrive at hotel, we see also Deluxe pool Villa( 90 sq m). But for us better Deluxe room, because Deluxe pool villa some little bigger, but very expensive.
Our room was like on picture in the website hotel.
Cleaning in the room every day is good. But you can check your room after cleaning, because after cleaning in the room may be mosquitos. I recommend buy in 7-11 repellent from mosquitos. And use it every day.
In the main buiding, middle audibility between rooms. Our neighbor, very noise be a fun for football. And we ask keep quiet.
In this hotel is very friendly staff.
Territory of hotel is clean. So many green.
Beach - clean. Before water clean sand and under water also just sand, no stones, and rocks.
Breakfast – for me is good. Like in another hotels. In the evening in hotel restaurant, was little show, like fireshow, local Thai dance and etc. Price in restaurant some little expensive.
Pool in Hotel is sufficiently big. Pool for children separate from big pool via lattice fence.
Because leaves from tree which put in big pool and after wind bring it in children pool.
So children pool is no clean. Several times, we ask staff about clean the children pool.
also we go to kids club room. This is room near the beach. Equipped for children middling.
Everything else was good.
Near from hotel was many restaurants , store and laundry service. 20minutes by drive you can get in Big C and Tesco lotus. And also get in ferry Seatran.

This is a lovely resort, and very easy to reach. It is worth taking care about which villa to choose. We were in 3105 which is more expensive than most, but great pool and privacy.
That said, the resort is certainly not crowded, and our companions had a Deluxe Room close to ours which was also very private and close to the beach.
The villa itself was very comfortable and well appointed. Service, from the moment we arrived, right through until we left was excellent. Breakfast has to be one of the best anywhere, with an excellent choice from both the extensive buffet and table service. Dinner is not so exciting, but good enough that we ate there on two evenings. The resort arranged a private speedboat service for us to visit other beaches on the island, and this was really worthwhile. I booked the whole thing direct with the resort, and there were no hitches whatsoever. Overall a wonderfully relaxing experience and highly recommended.
