“Lovely place to eat”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 March 2014

My husband and I ate here after a beautiful day on the beach. The staff were so friendly and welcoming and the food was utterly delicious. It was a really beautiful evening to the perfect day and we enjoyed it so much that when we return to Koh Samui in May, we will definitely be taking friends there.

We stayed in the Samui Buri on our honeymoon and this hotel was great for some relaxation after the madness of Bangkok. We had a large room with a big balcony. The room was huge and the bed very comfortable. The bathroom is also huge and has a jacuzzi bath which was surprisingly good! The rooms could use a bit of a facelift, as could the pool area, but nothing drastic. The private beach was a definite bonus with well managed loungers. Breakfast was good with a lot of choice, although getting a table could be a bit tricky and the staff didn't always manage this well. The taxi service running into Chaweng and Bo Phut was really useful at 4pm each day. Local restaurants were also very good and a lot cheaper than food in the hotel!

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 February 2014

We stayed at Samui Buri in Feb 2014 for 6 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.
The recent negative reviews are somewhat harsh. I have highlighted below the positive points, and also the relatively trivial negative points.

The positive points:
- Fantastic service by all staff throughout the resort. All staff were smiling, friendly and always willing to cater for all our needs. Contrary to some previous reviews, all of them spoke good English and we had no communication issues. We would like to specifically thank Deedi, Lek, YoYo, Eed and Chan for their great service;

- The food at the Seetawaree restaurant was lovely. We are vegetarian so had specific dietary requests. Each day, we would request the starters, mains and dessert required for dinner. They nearly always provided what we requested and in very generous portions. The food was very tasty. Special thanks for the chiefs for this;

- Great facilities in the resort. There was a daily shuttle service to Chaweng beach at 10am and 4pm. A wide ranging dvd collection available at reception for hire. There was a fantastic firework display on the beach on valentines evening;

- Nice private beach a short walk from the rooms. The resort had a beautifully designed swimming pool. The resort was set amidst lovely green scenery.

The relatively minor negative points are detailed below:
- The hotel does not offer free wifi. However, the charge of between £1-2 for the whole stay is small change compared to the overall cost. Furthermore, there are nice bar/restaurants just outside hotel (Luna’s Bar, John’s Garden) offering free wifi that are only 2 minutes walk away;

- Some dogs sometimes roam on the beach and do enter the resort. However, they are very tame and offer no threat. The staff also always shoo them away;

- The bathroom décor in the room is dated but it is clean. The cleanliness of the communal lavatories can be further improved.

In summary, this is a fantastic 4.5 star resort with a friendly personalised service. The criticism in recent reviews is unfair, as guests should not expect 5* deluxe at 4.5 star prices. We would recommend prospective holidaymakers to stay at this resort.

This hotel needs some key improvements, on top of the list the way it is managed.
Most of staff speaks bad to no English which is very frustrating for non-Thai speaking guests.
Restaurant has a nice view but quality of food can certainly be improved, given the prices they ask. Pool bar is really badly managed along with the (lack of) service provided.
Sand is far from being fine and clean.
Rooms are nice but dark and with view on one side on other rooms, on the other side on an abandoned resort.
We requested later check-out and were told that it was not possible, however till 4pm our room had not been cleaned yet for new guests.
All in all this resort is so impersonal, starting from breakfast where it looks more like a canteen than a restaurant, food and atmosphere wise....
Room cleaning is very superficial, sheets of bed are changed not on daily basis, including covers of pillows which is a MUST to change when it's so warm.
Management certainly needs serious improvement.

This Hotel could be so great, it has absolutely beautiful gardens, which lead you from the main building to an infinity pool overlooking the sea. The rooms are large, if a little dark, but well furnished, with decent sized balconies. We were in the main hotel, but there are also villas/bungalows within the gardens. The main reception is very impressive, its a pity that so few of the staff speak English very well.
Having said all this there are certain elements of the hotel that are a little tired, for instance, the bathroom towels are no longer the fluffy white they should be and are rather grey and old looking. Continuing on the subject of towels, some of the Pool towels should used as dusters, they are disgusting discoloured and ragged.
The restaurant, which we only used for breakfast, is situated beside the pool overlooking the sea, a wonderful place to start the day you may think. The windows through which you could look out at the sea had not been cleaned for weeks and the area needed some TLC and a bit of a face lift. The choice for breakfast was okay, but we were put off by the fact that the fruit and cakes were out in the open, with the inevitable flies circling the area. The coffee was awful and the croissants did not taste very fresh, not much more to add really.
The pool area has real potential, the water was beautiful, very deep and clean looking, it has pool bar and there were plenty of sun loungers. Our gripe was with the pool bar staff, who seemed quite unaware of the various dogs coming in from the beach and wondering around the pool area. On one occasion, three Thai boys of about 12 years, one of whom was naked, came off the beach and used the pool without challenge from the staff who were fully aware of there presence.
The boys were chased off only after we had complained to reception.
We have been on holiday in Thailand and Malysia for a month and this is the only Hotel to charge for the use of WiFi. We refused to pay on principle and were able to use a small restaurant called the Luna Hut, less than 5 minutes walk from the hotel entrance where it was free - the food wasn't bad either! There are some really good restaurants within 10 minutes walk, these are "The Sunshine Gourmet" and "John's Garden" I can fully recommend these.

This resort looks nice at the entrance and for its rooms, however there is nothing more than that when you look a bit further to its facilities. SWIMMING POOL IS SMALL, beach is mediocre and we would have expected sand to be more clean on the beach. Next door there is an abandoned resort full of rubbishwhich really disturbs the view from the room entrance as well as from the beach.
Breakfast is the same everyday, no chance of menu.
drinks and dinners are very pricy and not worth.
With the exception of reception staff, rest of Staff speaks almost no english, which is very annoying.
There are stray dogs walking around both on the beach as well as in the resort, this is as disgusting as dangerous, especially when you travel with kids.
Kids club is ver small and inside, nonkids facilities at all outside.
We are not impressed at all!

This hotel was more than we expected. The room was amazing and the staff were very friendly. I wish the weather was better on our visit, however because the room was so inviting we didn't mind spending a bit of time in there.
