“Excellent half day out”
Reviewed 26 April 2014 via mobile

You should visit when in steam and marvel at Victorian engineering. Small cafe has snacks and drinks at reasonable prices. You can sit out by the 'lake' ,also got picnic tables. Well done to volunteers that keep this part of our heritage going.

“Papplewick Pumping Station”
Reviewed 26 December 2013

Superb Victorian experience.
Fabulous architecture.
The most beautiful steam powered beam engines you could wish to see, in full steam too.
Take a walk in the gardens and around the lake, see traditional crafts, such as Blacksmithing taking place.
You won't need to take out a second Mortgage to use the on site Cafe either!!

“Steamed up!”
Reviewed 22 December 2013

Onenof the 'in steam' weekends, we went on Sunday 21st December. All the volunteers were so genned up, so helpful and friendly, explained the workings in terms I could understand! An added bonus today, was a performance by Bevox, a fun choir, whose members sang three sets. Great day out, and I just loved the smells of steam, coal fired boilers and oil!

“A hidden treasure”
Reviewed 30 November 2013

Papplewick is just down the road from our home and we visit regularly. You will be surprised by the wonders you will see. For the children it has a little train and a lake full of hungry fish. We recommend you visit on one of their steaming days or when they have their WW2 event.

“October 19th - 1940's weekend”
Reviewed 27 November 2013

Stunning well maintained machines. Visited for my dad's 60th birthday, completely by chance we found it was 1940's weekend when we checked online for prices, so all the family were very excited. The kids dressed up as evacuees and had a fantastic time learning about Victorian steam engines and war time which tied in lovely with lessons being taught at school. We had such fun we can't wait to return on another occasion and will certainly be back for another 1940's weekend. we missed the underground reservoir so will make sure we see that next time.
