This cottage was perfect for us and our 3 generations. A great place to use as a Base for skiing, walking, mountain biking or just exploring.
A great location to use as a base for snow sports, mountain biking, water sports or walking/exploring the outdoors. Spacious property for 7 of us over 3 generations. Beautiful views of the snow capped mountains and only 8 miles from Aviemore. Log burner for cosy nights in watching TV.
The house is located on a country road just outside loch inish with the water sports centre nearby and some beautiful woodland walks just a stroll from the house.
The house itself was beautiful with some lovely features. We stayed for Christmas with another family and it comfortably houses 4 adults and 4 kids. The lounge is huge and beautifully decorated with huge windows to make the most of the amazing views. The bedrooms are all nice with comfy beds. The kitchen is large and modern and mostly well equipped although could have benefitted from having some additional items like tea coffee canisters, extra cutlery etc. A broom would also be good as the hoover wasn't that great and would make life easier for those daily crumbs.
There was a small welcome hamper on arrival (consisting of a can of iron bru, 1 bottle of Scottish ale, packet of short bread and packet of oatcakes) which I personally think could have been a bit bigger and nicer, considering there were 8 of us and it was Christmas. A pint of milk in the fridge and some bread would have been useful but not a complaint.
The hot tub was a great touch and we all throughly enjoyed our daily soak taking in the views. Make sure you take your own towels and dressing gowns/slippers or flip flops as it's cold when getting out and the wooden floors in the house are a bit haphazardness with wet feet. I'd suggest the owner get a large mat for the porch area.
The owner was fantastic and very helpful as I contacted her to inform her the tumble dryer was broken and she was brilliant at replying to my messages and arranged a new one to be delivered the next day! We were very grateful.
The local area is simply beautiful and lots to do. We were there for 10 days and enjoyed lots of walks around the lochs, loch an Elaine is a great walk which took roughly an hour with the kids and is good terrain. The landmark centre is great fun and although only a quarter of the park was open due to the snow and ice we still had fun. The safari wildlife park is great and would highly recommend.
There are lots of lovely pubs and restaurants too, can recommend the old bridge inn and the winky owl, great food and service. We did the aviemore Christmas Eve parade which started at 6 and ate at the winky owl left the car there and walked to the town centre to watch the parade, which although was short was good and the fireworks at the aviemore hotel after were amazing! A great way to start Christmas for the kids (and big kids too!)
An overall fantastic stay and would definitely recommend especially for Christmas. It truly looked magical in the snow.
The lodge is amazing, and in a really nice peaceful location with plenty of walks, wish we could have stayed longer. The lodge is very homely and has plenty of space. We were a group of 8, and mainly used the dining room, kitchen and living room. The log fire is just what you need after being out all day, or the hot tub! Couldn't fault anything.
Balnacraig Lodge was beautiful, as were the surroundings. Very warm and plenty of space for a house full of guests. Great views and surrounding walks. The hot tub and fire were perfect for chilly days, the roads were very safe and accessible in the snow. Very cosy, a home from home.
We were 3 couples and a dog who stayed in the lodge for a week in June. The weather was unfortunately not the best throughout our stay, but the lodge offered everything we needed and made for a very comfortable stay. The outdoor hot tub was definitely a big plus! Only thing to fault was the wifi which did not work very well.
