“Phuket Quiet Retreat”
Reviewed 12 May 2011

Great location for a honeymoon couple with enough to do around the area and really not that far from anything for the adventurous on a Motorised Bike. We hired these from the Beach Massage Hire place walk past the pool hang a left. Just 300 Baht for the day, and only 1800 Baht for a boat trip full day from the same place.
Resort was great with a terrific pool just cool enough to cool you off and perfect with a salty Margharita and nice and quiet to read books and laze away a few days but we never ate a meal there with so many options a bike ride away.
Another 100 metres south up the beach was a really nice beach restaurantwith sand under your feet, a pad thai each and fried banana's washed down with a few bottles of beer was just over 400 Baht.
Overall if your now that keen to visit the noise and shows of Patong but want a nice quiet place to base yourself adn relax this is a good spot. If your an Accor A Club Member than we got a buy 2 get 3 offer in May when we travelled and i would rate the accomodation value as very good. Beachview was on the top floor and a few flights of stairs but for under $600AUD we got the room for a week which we thoroughly enjoyed and those sunsets!

Stayed 3 nites at this hotel with my wife during our first trip to Phuket. Just like other comments, the hotel is far away from Phuket's most crowded area-Patong but we decided to pick this hotel since the rate is cheap and we only use their room for sleeping. Not much activities at the hotel as there were not many people stayed during our stay there, I can say this is the most quiet hotel we ever stayed for these past few years. The room is very basic and not too big while bathroom is clean. One thing about wake up call, they forgot to do it but lucky I set up the clock alarm at the room so didn't miss our tour. I would recommend the hotel only for hooneymoners and those who do not want to party.

We also booked this hotel by mistake instead of the Novotel in near Patong. we were under the impression this was only 8Km from Patong so could escape the exciting nightlife and retreat to the nearby Novotel. The Hotel could suite honeymooners not wanting anything other than the Hotel facilities - however it is isolated at least 5Kms from anywhere not a single shop.

while the duty manager appeared to help us tansfer to the other location we basically had to pay again and lost our money,. Attempts to get in contact with the Hospital manager or the Marketiung and Reservations Manager were uncessessful. Very disappointed with the experience and wont be trusting the Novotel brand again.

**WARNING**Please be very careful before booking online to stay here.

We will be writing to the hotel but wanted people looking at reviews to be aware.

Also breakfast was a very poor standard.

the beach area was beautiful, uncrowded, the sea was calm, since it was a cove like area. the service and food excellent. Far from Patong beach where the restaurants, shops and night life is, but with an environment geared to couples or families, since there were only two hotels in a large stretch of beach.

The Novotel is a lovely boutique resort with only 75 rooms set in lush gardens beside a kilometre of rolling golden sand beach. We stayed twice, occupying two different connecting rooms (garden view and ocean view) on each occasion. It's a 45 minute drive to Phuket airport (750 baht by airport taxi / 850 baht by hotel car). The rooms are spacious, the views out on the bay are stunning and the facilities modern. There's Wifi, flat screen cable television in each room, a large and uncrowded pool with good quality sun loungers and a paddling area, and a kids club run by a charming lady called Aom. The hotel arranges different activities every day, including yoga and Thai language lessons. The gym is very small but there is a spa and a business centre. The bar has funky decor and throughout the property the fittings are well maintained.

That's the upside. The facilities have everything you'd hope from a top notch resort (except maybe the gym). What lets the place down is the total lack of motivation among many of the staff. The quality of English is embarrassingly bad - worse than your average backpacker beach hut. Asking whether there was an airport departure tax drew blank looks at reception and neither staff member appeared to understand the question.

Asking for a cappucino at breakfast resulted in three different staff members not understanding or ignoring me, then 25 minutes later a pair of really badly made, bitter cappucinos arrived at the price of US$5.50 each. Not exactly a compelling value proposition. Breakfast was more akin to a budget US motel chain than a four or five star resort, except that five staff members and a chef stood around doing nothing. The warm greeting on arrival the second stay was "You must pay. It is not included".

The range of food at breakfast was disappointing. Pain au chocolat? Non. Bananas? No, we have no bananas. Oranges? No. Danish pastries? No. Omelettes? No. Pancakes? No. Hot chocolate? No (only Ovaltine). Honey for toast? No. Newspapers to read? No. I could continue, but the "copious and delicious" breakfast promised by the Novotel was disappointing. To add insult to injury, when we came down at 7am on our first stay the coffee served was luke warm. That takes some doing! Hence we opted for cappucinos on our second stay.

Lunch and dinner were much better, but the levels of disengagement among the staff were embarrassing. I was playing chess with my son in the empty bar area at 11.30am on a wet day, and the manager strode in and turned on the massive tv to play MTV at full blast. Why?! We put a dirty plate outside our door at 7pm and it was still there at 10am the next morning by which time a swarm of fruit flies had gathered around it.

The hotel boasts its staff speak Russian, English, Thai and French, but not the language of service, and any trace of "savoire faire" was sorely lacking, which is very unusual in Thailand (and a contrast to the Novotel resort in Bali where I stayed last year). I have written to the hotel general manager but she has not yet replied.
