Lovely relaxing holiday

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 31 Aug 2012
My husband and I spent a memorable 7 nights in Cape Panwa after having spent a few days in Singapore and before continuing our holiday in Bangkok and Hong Kong. This was the first time that we had been to Thailand and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. On arrival, we thought that the standard room although modern, was quite small and decided to upgrade to an executive suite. The suite was one of the best hotel rooms that I have ever stayed in and I have travelled extensively. It was very modern with a jacuzzi on the balcony, walk in wardrobe wtih dressing area incl. air con. seating and kitchen area with deluxe bathroom (his and her sinks). I remember saying 'wow; as I walked into the room and thought that the upgrade price was good value for the quality and size of facilities compared to the standard room. The hotel itself is very quiet and has a private beach accessed by cable car. There is a regular shuttle bus (every 30 mins) into the village and although you could technically walk it, the hill is too steep to manage in the Thai temperatures. It was a slight culture shock visiting the village as the restaurants/cafes are very basic however, the food was outstanding and after adjusting to the environment, you soon look forward to the Thai culinary delights that you will experience. The village only has about 7/8 places to eat and one bar, we tried too eat in them all and didn't have one bad experience. Russell the owner of the local bar gave us a very warm welcome and kindly offers lifts back to the hotel if like us, you miss the last shuttle at 12. The hotel offers trips into Phuket town and Patong for a small price. We went into Patong for a very interesting evening, it was such a different experience to Club Panwa as it included open air bars and clubs of all kinds, nothing seemed taboo!! My expereince of Cape Panwa and Thailand was fantastic although if I was going again I would probably stay for 4/5 days in a few different resorts. We didn't meet many other Europeans, most holiday makers seemed to be from Australia. After Cape Panwa I was disappointed with Bangkok and have no desire to return there in the future.

Room Tip: Upgrade to executive suites.

We had our regional meeting here in August 2012 and it could not have been a better place to do so. The staff were very helpful and friendly, the rooms were spacious and well appointed and the meeting faciilities were first rate. I hope to come back here for a personal vacation some day as the the rates were very reasonable too.

Positive:
*own private beach
*classy spa
*efficient and friendly staff
*fairly good pool
*comfortable big bed (took the junior suite)
*shuttle to the sister hotel every 10-15 mins
*250baht/person roundtrip to patong
*nearby local shops
*good view of the beach from our room

Negatives:
*overpriced on the room and restaurants
*internet use in rooms is chargeable (our affordable 1 bedroom at Kantary hotel has a free wifi)
*beach front massage experience was horrible (you better book the spa's hotel instead)

Our stay could've been almost good, but to me, it seemed our junior suite's room set up doesn't differ that much of the (cheaper) 3* hotels in Patong beach especially with the common glass-type of bathroom (I like the bed though). It didn't live up to my expectation of a SUITE. The only edge with them is they have a vast property that includes a private beach (overlooking) and a luxurious spa. I enjoyed the Kantary Hotel stay even more as we got a much more better room amenities for a fraction of a price plus the free usage of the Cape Panwa hotel's amenities. Would rather book at Kantary Hotel next time instead (not to mention the very nice seafood dinner we had at Kantary).

Greetings from Cape Panwa Hotel. Thank you for staying with us and sharing your valuable feedback.

We appreciate your positive comments. Our efficient and friendly staff in combination with luxurious and spacious rooms and our renowned private beach certainly makes Cape Panwa Hotel a special holiday destination.

Replying to your negative comments we would like to emphasize that the Junior Suites at Cape Panwa Hotel are furnished and fitted to the highest international standards. The luxurious bathroom offers a combination of bath tub and separate shower including rain shower option and a total room size of 53 sqm. In addition we provide branded amenities, 24 hour room service and as you mentioned our world famous private beach.

All of our restaurant and bar menus are competitively priced with other luxury hotels on the island. Cheaper meals can certainly be found in local small restaurants on Phuket, however they might not provide the atmosphere and quality of service Cape Panwa Hotel is known for.

While access to WIFI at Cape Panwa Hotel is free in all public areas including our private beach, we charge for WIFI connection in the privacy of guestrooms. This policy is also applicable for our sister property Kantary Bay Hotel, Phuket. Therefore the statement of free WIFI in guestrooms at Kantary Bay Hotel is unfortunately not correct.

The traditional Thai Massage treatments administered in open-air salas located near our private beach have always been very popular with guests. The therapists are skilled professionals and therefore it is very rare to receive a negative comment. Guests looking for a wider range of spa massages, body treatments and packages can visit the Cape Spa, where they can enjoy air-conditioned treatment rooms featuring a Jacuzzi.

Many thanks again for taking the time to comment and we very much look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

Perfect hotel, the cape suite is spacious with great ambient lighting, a jacuzzi on the balcony and great sea views. The weather wasn't great (august 17 -23) but there are plenty of places in the hotel and kantary village to sit and read etc.
We bought the meal vouchers, I wouldn't bother again as the food prices are reasonable so you don't really save. There are great places to eat outside so it's better to have the freedom to choose. The top of the reef and panwa restaurant in the hotel serve good food, but the atmosphere in the evenings is a bit sterile. We loved sawadee next to the kantary hotel, plus the Indian in the village was fantastic. And hilltop restaurant close to cape panwa hotel is great. Average meal 800 baht for two including drinks.
We had 2 massages - baad Thai up the hill from kantary and 3 monkeys opposite were both fantastic. 500 bhat for over an hour - bliss.
Can't wait to come back!

Room tip: C block 2nd floor have great sea views. No lift so good exercise to work off all that food!

My partner and I went on a scoopon deal which more then paid for itself after 2 days there. Its quiet and serene - We didn't have great weather but there was so much relaxing to do it did't matter. Walk our the hotel and there is a massive hill (A free shuttle/tuk tuk does trips over the hill and back every 20 mins) You will find some tailors and then a string of massage parlors where for around $6-10 AUD you can have an hour long amazing massage. Half way down the hill there are some excellent roof top/cliff view restaurants. Cheap yummy authentic food with scenery to boot.
We ate at the bottom of the hill at Sawadee which is amazing- we had 3 meals there and all were better then the previous!
We hired a scooter from the little transport/taxi/scooter stand at the bottom of the hill - Not much at all and worked a treat. Make sure to go to the weekend night markets in Phuket town Massive and so good - they dont hassle you to come in and look at every stall and they more often then not have set prices that are low already - Got some great cushion covers, jewerlly and dresses.

Their is a bus to Patong each night for 300 Baht return ( 9 AUD) and leaves /returns at good times. Patong is very busy and 4 hours there is generally enough.

The breakfast daily was the best i have gotten at in an Asian country - so much variety. The onsite Spa was slightly costly but no comparison to Australian Spa prices and was so formal and lovely. Our rooms were kept to the highest degree of cleanliness and each day they folded our clothes that were on the bed - So sweet.
The staff at Cape panwa were amazing and I will definitely stay there again :)

Room tip: When you check in ask if they have anything with a great view available - More often then not a free upgrade.
