Reviewed 2 July 2014

Returned, mid June, from good 10 night stay at the Cape Panwa hotel. It was very quiet, possibly because of renovation work on the main swimming pool ,(finished now) - it looks a really nice area.
The rooms are large and clean, but uncomfortably hot during the 3 or 4 power cuts which occurred whist we were there and affected the air conditioning - no complaints otherwise.
The beach area is really good, lots of sunbeds amongst coconut grove, plenty of shade if needed. The beach itself is fine sand, the water warm, but I was disappointed by the lack of visibility while snorkelling. N.B. The snorkelling at Coral Island, a trip provided by the hotel, is excellent, easy for less confident swimmers with lots of different fish easily seen.
The Bamboo Bar on the beach is pleasant, but not cheap. 330ml can of beer 118baht,£2, lemon juice 100baht almost £2. Lovely milkshakes
The gardens are lovely, I've never seen so many butterflies!
Both hotel restaurants are good, if a bit more expensive than surrounding restaurants.
Andaman restaurant about 1100bahts, £22 Panwa House 1320bts £26 for 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 drinks each
Remember that the hotel adds on a 10% service charge plus other taxes, maybe 7%, so when your bill comes it can be more than you expected.
Compare with the nearest local restaurant, the Sabai Sabai 1, at the top of the hill leading into the hotel, 3-4 mins walk,840bts £16 for 2.
If you take the shuttle bus 4-5 mins to the sister hotel, Kantary Bay, you will pass the Seabreeze and Live India near the bottom of the hill, also very good, 850 and 840bts respectively.
There are another 5 independent restaurants within 10-12 min walk of Kantary Bay drop off point, plus the Kantarys restaurants.(Kantary café serves ice creams and lovely cakes, 105-165bts £2-3, in air conditioned heaven.
The aquarium, 200m from drop off point, is well worth it,100bht £2 each, and around the back is free access to their fish breeding tanks and a turtle "sanctuary".
Trips-
Coral Island excellent for swimming and snorkelling; suitable even for children.
Phi Phi Island expensive. I'm not sure it's worth it. Through our rep it cost 3300bht each,£65. 25min snorkelling stop very good, Maya Island attractive but very busy, good short walk through
forest and canyons to a view point on the other side of the Island. Free meal poor, and the stop off at, I think, Kai Noi Island was awful. A small island, hugely busy, I think they expected you to look at the fish, but the visibility was zero and access to sea blocked by sheer number of boats.
Note- On our speedboat of 26 people, 6 were sick as dogs. If you are offered sea sickness tablets, take them.
Big Buddha good, but I wouldn't drive a scooter up there; the road is very steep , winding and busy. Was told they have an accident every day, more if it's wet.
Botanical Gardens good, set out as about 15 small themed gardens, - Palm, Cactus, Orchid etc.500bht £10 each. Expensive?
Overall this was the cheapest long haul holiday we have had, so good value for the money.
I would rate this hotel as 'good' if that was an option on the circle rating, certainly better than average which 3 circles above indicate.
Problems with the hotel, if I was being picky -
Air conditioning shut downs.
Staff at reception seemed surprised when you ask a simple 'touristy' question.(but reception area had just been re-organised)
Loads of mosquito bites, even though we had DEET. Maybe from early morning walks, or from staying on the beach after 5pm as it got more shady.
If you want a lively nightlife, this is not the resort for you.

Dear Gregseygray,
Thank you for taking the time to write a review for Cape Panwa Hotel, we truly appreciate your feedback as they allow us to reflect and improve our practices.
We are delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay overall. On the other hand, we apologize for the inconveniences caused by ongoing renovations and the resulting power outrages during your stay.
We are also very excited to hear you appreciate how the pool turned out. We take pride in hearing that our guests enjoy our private beach and surrounding area. Unfortunately during the raining season, the areas of the Andaman Sea become murky and a snorkeling trip can become sub-par. With that being said, we hope to see you again and wish you the best.

Sincerely,

General Manager

Let's start with the positives.

Great rooms - comfortable, large bed, great shower, jacuzzi etc...
Friendly staff.
Nice private beach.
Good breakfast options.

Now the negatives.

No nightlife really, apart from 1 bar and a couple of restaurants - it's 35 minutes to Patong BTW.
Activities for kids is the biggest let down - really nothing for kids to do apart from swim or play on the beach. There is a kids room but it's pretty bad.
No wifi in rooms - very odd system for wifi - free in lobby but not in rooms, plus you need new password every day.
Taxi's very expensive booking through hotel ( which is only way to get a taxi it seemed )

Overall - very average especially in relation to activities for kids.

Dear MIP Jack,
Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay. We are glad to hear that you have enjoyed the private beach, breakfast and that you were happy with our staff’s service. On the other hand, are sorry to hear that you find the long distance from Patong and the cities attractions disappointing, but being away from the hustle and bustle of some of the more popular areas in Phuket is also one of the reasons why many of our guests choose to stay with us. We hope that Cape Panwa’s private beach and tranquil environment make up for the distance and lack of nightlife activities.
We’re especially disappointed that our children’s facilities failed to meet your expectations, since we pride ourselves on being a family friendly hotel. If you do come back and stay with us in the future, we do provide regular cultural and water sport activities like silk painting, scuba diving, Thai cooking and also daily Coral Island trips that guests can arrange with the front desk.
We are currently overhauling our wifi systems at Cape Panwa and our sister properties to better accommodate our guests.
Thank you again for your valuable feedback and we hope to see you again in the future.
Yours Sincerely,

General Manager

I stayed at the Cape Panwa Hotel from 12-19 May 2014. At first i thought the location was good and in a nice quieter part of Phuket island. After spending time in the Patong beach area, i was really happy that i was staying at the Cape Panwa hotel with it's own private beach!

The scenery was incredible, lush gardens surrounding the hotel buildings. The staff were so welcoming and friendly. I had made a few special requests during my stay and nothing was a bother, the staff were only too happy to help.

The room was clean, beautifully decorated and very comfortable with great views from the balcony. Each morning we woke up to a stunning breakfast full of variety, i especially loved the freshly prepared omelettes and pastries.

The main pool was lovely as was the beach pool. The private beach was such a bonus as it was so clean and lovely without the crowds and pesty sales people of the main beaches. The palm trees, warm water and gorgeous setting made this place a paradise that i didn't want to leave.

The location of the hotel is a bit further out but this has it's benefits, taxis are cheap so getting around is easy and not expensive. I would definitely stay here again, i loved my time in this hotel and the friendly staff were just perfect.

We stayed at Cape Panwa in the first few weeks of June. I have nothing but good things to say about the hotel and the staff. The rooms were spacious, clean and had great views! The staff were always so helpful and just had the most cheerful personalities, especially the reception and breakfast staff.

The main pool was closed during our stay but they more than made up for it by providing complimentary drinks and food in the evening. Plus the smaller pool was more than sufficient with great views.

Thank you so much for making our stay fantastic. We hope to see you all again!

We found the Cape Panwa Hotel on the Tropical Sky website initially and then did some further research on Tripadvisor. This was our first trip to this part of the world and I have to say that we were not all disappointed....

The hotel is at the south eastern tip of Phuket and around an hour's drive from the airport depending on the traffic in Phuket Town (do have some bottled water with you). On arrival the check in process was very swift and we soon shown to our room.

The room was huge and definitely the biggest non-suite we have experienced in recent years - it was apparent that extensive refurbishment of the hotel had taken recently place. The facilities in the room were excellent with a high spec bathroom, comfortable queen sized bed, flat screen TV etc. My only gripe would be that the Wifi was not free in the rooms only the public areas.

We ate breakfast in the main restaurant where a buffet was served and there appeared to be something for every taste including cooked to order items as requested. We enjoyed the steak night held every Friday and felt the meal was good value. Other nights we mainly ate down the road at the restaurants surrounding the sister hotel Kantary Bay but did also eat at Panwa House one evening which offers an authentic Thai menu. During the day a snack menu is available from the beach bar and main restaurant/pool bar.

The hotel bars hold various happy hours throughout the course of the evening and you can literally go from one to the other.

Regarding the beach it is just as pictured in the brochures - enjoy!

We highly recommend this hotel and plan to return next year.

My wife and I have been coming to Thailand (mainly) Phuket and have stayed at the Cape Panwa Hotel for approx twenty years usually Spring and Autumn (April/May and October/November)because we have not found any other location and Hotel that even comes close to meeting its extremely high standards. It has a secluded location with private beach and excellent staff who take care to ensure that they satisfy your every want. It mainly caters for the adult client although children are welcome. The staff are just wonderful so many to name as special but they all do try.The rooms are excellent well looked after and all have excellent facilities and glorious views of the sea ,the beach is private (no hawkers) well looked after and has catering facilities for snacks etc., The food is excellent cooked and prepared to your requirements watch your diet !!but just perfection. For the sightseeing guests there are ample
opportunities to take trips by sea or inland around Phuket to more than satisfy the quest for knowledge of this wonderful island,Tour guides and hotel staff can advise. All in all it is just a peaceful haven in a wonderful location, hard to find these days and we shall be returning again in October. We meet returning guests every holiday which speaks for itself and we all agree that this is the place for a wonderful holiday. See you there .

Room Tip: They are all good with different options so when booking specify your requirements which will be met...
