Nice but could be better.

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 23 May 2019via mobile
This was a nice break but not quite as expected. The whole place needs some work doing as it is quite tired. The bed was hard and lumpy, and the toilet wobbled and leaked. Air con worked well but the TV was a decoration rather than being watchable, not that I go on holiday to watch TV. A very small resort with a lovely outlook over a lagoon and pleasant views. The staff ( apart from the surly miserable barman ) were superb. Incredibly friendly, helpful, polite and efficient. They make the place and allow you to overlook it's deficiencies. The food was ok, lots of it but not the finest dining. A pleasant stay but wouldn't head back.

As regular visitors to Mauritius, we opted for a change of location and were very pleased to find the Jalsa Beach resort. The hotel is small and peaceful and the grounds beautifully maintained. Our room was large and with all of the necessary facilities (if a little tired). The size of the resort gave it a very intimate atmosphere which we enjoyed very much. The staff were very accommodating and friendly.
The food was absolutely superb especially the many spicy dishes served. My wife being Mauritian, we made a few special food requests and these were always readily accommodated.
We enjoyed the Jalsa Beach very much!

My experience last week - May 2019, has been very good with this hotel.
The rooms are clean, a well-maintained property.
They provide pure veg and even Jain food as well... restaurant staff is also nice.
Rece[ption staff is very cooperative as well.
They have a nice shop as well for purchase of last minute gifts.

Room tip: Ask for first floor rooms, that provide a good view of seaside.

A nice small hotel, with small beach area which feels very secluded - staff are very accommodating and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The food was more than satisfactory and we felt no need to go out for dinner and often breakfast items, tea + coffee can be accessed up to 30 minutes early if you have a very early start. My wife, being pregnant, was told to ask for anything she wanted.

The hotel has few resident stray animals but then the whole of Mauritius as a very abundant population of stray dogs it seems, none of which we came across had an aggressive bone in their body - running on the nearby public beach in the mornings I was greeted by no less than 6, all of which where mostly just amused to see a human doing circuits up and down their beach.

The plan was a relaxing break before our first born arrives later this year, however we found plenty to keep us busy and away from the loungers. Located on the north east side the area is quite quiet, so to get anywhere you need transport. There is a local bus to nearby towns which have markets, which is also a good way to experience some Mauritian life. The hotel also offers hire cars at around £40 a day and driving around Mauritius is pretty easy - from Jalsa Beach you can pretty much get anywhere in about an hour. As a bonus, being a British driver, although all the place names are in French they drive on the left. We managed to pretty much cover the whole island in 3 days and only used half a tank of Diesel. Refuelling is also easy as the forecourts are staffed, they'll fill the car for you so all you have to do is drive in and pay.

The only downside to the hotel is the apparent reliance on Club Coralia, a French version of Club 18 - 30's but seemingly for any age. Each Saturday a new group seems to roll up to spend their days getting sunburnt and nights with some form of entertainment from taking over dinner service with bad Karaoke or a loud cheesy disco. They seem to have no regard for other guests and appear to assume they have the run of the place. Perhaps we just clashed with a particularly loud and obnoxious group. We asked to move rooms as we were above the bar and the staff were very accommodating. But thank goodness for the 11:00 curfew - we were able to get some quality sleep!

Would we come back? Yes but we'd bring ear plugs and more friends + family ;o)

Room tip: go for as far away from the bar as possible

This is the BEST tropical resort you could wish to stay at.
From the warm friendly greeting at reception, immaculate grounds with an abundance of palm trees, spacious airy rooms which are cleaned daily to the highest standards with daily bedding and towel changes.
Lovely safe infinity pool with jacuzzi and plenty of top quality sun loungers (even at Christmas and New year). There is a beautiful clear turquoise lagoon off a pristine white sandy beach.
      THIS TRULY IS PARADISE.
Daily changes of menus ensuring there is something for every taste (always fresh and top quality) and should you not find something to your taste, speak to the chefs (especially Head Chef Roopna) and they will do their very best to accommodate your needs. The on site Club Corellia team, led by Mitisha are warm, friendly and great fun and are so friendly to ALL of the Jalsa guests.
Entertainment is a weekly Sega, music by the very talented Dennis and superb musical entertainment on the guitar, mouth organ, keyboard along with the fantastic singing voice of Desiree - YOU HAVE TO SEE HIM.
Some previous guests (although they are in the minority) have raised very small concerns and the COMMON POINT of a great deal of these complaints are that nothing was said during their stay and they only write complaining after they return home.
Surely, if YOU are unhappy with something, you would mention something either to the staff or the management while you are there, so that the issue can be resolved and you can enjoy your holiday.
IT SIMPLY DOES NOT MAKE SENSE TO SAY NOTHING AND PUT UP WITH SOMETHING YOU ARE NOT HAPPY WITH. DOES IT ???????
Looking at Mr Sanjay (CEO) replies to these reviews, he ALWAYS asks future guests to speak to the management during their stay and yet SOME guests still don't. WHY??
Jalsa's GREATEST STRENGTH is THE STAFF. In 4 holidays here, we have been privileged to get to know most of the Jalsa family and we can honestly say that they are the most genuine, warm, sincere and friendly people you could ever wish to meet.
They ALL want, so much, for all the guests to have a wonderful holiday, not only at Jalsa Beach, but also in THEIR country of Mauritius.
Get to know the staff and treat them with courtesy and politeness (we witnessed numerous guests actually ignore the staff completely!!!) and by getting to know this wonderful 'family' you will take even more wonderful memories away from this paradise resort
One review mentioned the Restaurant Manager Mr Rajen and we have always found him to be the ultimate professional. We did witness one guest (on half board) DEMANDING items only available (at no additional charge) to all inclusive guests and Mr Rajen politely explained this to this particular guest (3 times) and on each occasion was met with abuse but he remained polite and professional at all times. Some guests want everything but are not will to pay for it which is not fair to those (like ourselves) who have paid for all inclusive so that these items are included.
Some other guests have accused staff of not smiling, yet we have ALWAYS been met with smiles from ALL of the staff.
As stated in some of my previous reviews, we have observed staff smiling and greeting (good morning etc) guests and being Completely Ignored, and then they wonder why staff will look down when they approach them.
HAVE SOME MANNERS and common courtesy and you will be met with some beautiful smiles from some really lovely people

On a nightly basis, Harrish who is the night duty Manager walks around talking to all of the guests to ensure that they are happy and that there are no issues.
In a nutshell, this is a fantastic resort and the staff are SO FRIENDLY, WARM AND GENUINE. PLEASE get to know them and you will have the best holiday ever
