Owner description: From the top of its 905 metres, the sacred Basque Country mountain of La Rhune provides one of the best panoramas imaginable (rated *** in the Michelin Guide). As far as the eye can see, it takes in the peaks of the Pyrenees and follows the Basque coast bordering the Atlantic Ocean from San Sebastián to Biarritz and on to the beaches of Les Landes.

This train is amazing in that it goes straightt up thru the clouds to La Rhune with amazing views at the top. There are 3 restarants at the top. The farthest obe to the east is the keast crided and vest. Run by a very fruendky gut from Ecuador wuth a full service bar, tourist items for sale and a good yoiket.

The views at the top of the Pyrenees are extraordinary on a clear day but the ride is very much part of the experience. The wild horses many of whom had just had foals were a joy to see and the scenery quite spectacular.

You can walk up the mountain for free but it is very steep and the train is much more fun! There are 4 trains and one leaves every 35 minutes. It is not the cheapest to go on but it does pay off. There are wild ponies and sheep that are just beautiful to see.
At the top there is a restaurant, a bar, crazy golf, toilets (have to have 20c) and a small souvenir shop (the one at the bottom of the mountain is better though).
I wouldn't recommend this if you find it very hard to walk up steep hills as when you get off you must walk up a very steep part and it is not very even but not impossible. Wear good shoes if you plan to have a good look around the top as it is very rocky.
It is hard to find (trust me I know) so if you have a sat nav/gps just put in the exact co-ordinates:
43°19' 29'' N
1°36' 2'' O

A wonderful ride up and around the mountains lasting about 35 minutes each way. 22°C at the bottom and 11°C at the top. We found a parking spot although this was in May and I suspect it becomes more difficult in July/August. We chose a day when you could see the top of the mountain and arriving at the top the views were spectacular. There is food and drink available at the top but not much else. If you decide to walk back it takes about 2-3 hours and the terrain looks rough. A good trip on a fine day.

Train trip up to the top was fantastic but very cold so anyone who does the sane needs to wrap up warm. Views to St Jean de Lutz, Biarritz, Bayonne and the Atlantic coast beyond we're fantastic even though it wan't the clearest day. Well worth the money and a 'must see' for anyone visiting the area.
