I have booked hotels many times for groups all over the world and have always encountered very professional and kind service. But not in this hotel.

I booked a week for 10 people in this hotel - and due to an accident for 3 people in the group we had to cancel a room quite a long time before arrival. I mailed a full list of specified partipants and rooms and the owner/manager wrote in a mail it was alright with the cancellations. She had earlier told me that they did not charge cancellation fee when cancellations were well in advance.

When I came down there she (the owner/manager) said that I had booked for 13 people. When I respectfully showed her the email I had sent her with the booking for 7 people she said that "she did not have time to read emails" - and that "she was not a secretary". I was pretty shocked. Never in my private or professional life had I experienced such impoliteness and down right unprofessionalism towards a customer.

During a conversation in her office (when she was more at ease) I asked her if she liked her job and she replied "no". (Perhaps it would be a good idea that she found another occupation :-))

She threatened us and said that we could not have the rooms next season if the did not pay 300 euros extra. We paid the 300 Euros and then she cancelled the rooms for next season anyway.

So we paid 300 euros extra and ended up cheated and insulted as a bonus :-).

The rest of the staff is very nice but I definetely cannot recommend this hotel as long as this owner/manager is in charge.

What a lovely location. Our first view of the meadows and the inn at the foot of imposing Sassolongo was captivating. We had a bunk-bed style room with a shared bath. Everything was very clean and comfortable. Our room price included breakfast and dinner (an excellent value!). The restaurant is upscale. For breakfast, there was granola, fresh yoghurt, juice, meat slices, and eggs on order. For dinner, the chef prepared interesting dishes to suit our vegetarian needs. Each dinner was a three course meal (again, included in the very reasonable room price)! The home-made gelato was delicious as were several other dishes.

The inn is conveniently located near a couple of good hikes. The Alpe de Siusi is amazing! We were there in June and saw plenty of wildflowers. Trails are a combination of rocky climbs/descents and farily flat strolls through meadows. All in all, a hearty nature-friendly stay. We would recommend it to anyone who wants to go hiking and come back to a comfortable bed and a hearty meal.

The Berghaus/Rifugio Zallinger [""] is located on the largest alpine meadow in Europe: The Seiser Alm/Alpe di Siusi, in the Alto Adige region of the Dolomites, in NE Italy. My wife and I had a rental car, so we drove up to Zallinger, but unless the weather is good, you may have difficulty doing this since the last portion (about 3 km) is gravel road. They can come pick you up though at the ski lift station, I believe. Once we got to the berghaus, we were instantly impressed. Nestled amongst the small hills below the massive Sello mountains is this beautiful, seemingly self-contained home with a barn for their prize-winning horses, lots of animals for kids to look at, their own little chapel and of course, the main house were we stayed. We arrived early (before 9 am) and were instantly greeted by Luisa and her dog, Iko, who were very cordial. She speaks excellent English and was nice enough to get our room ready, which was a great suprise! (We had intended to hike and return later to check in) The entire home is beautifully decorated in the Tyrol style with lots of woodwork, splashes of color, and warmth everywhere. Our room was very nice: queen size bed with really warm comforters, a small desk area, a great closet, nightstands, and a very nice bathroom with shower (rather large for European standards). The place must have been renovated recently since the new (and beautiful) double-pane windows in our room were stamped with 1998 seals... In any case, it was a beautiful room, and affordable. We paid 45 euro/person for half-board (breakfast and dinner), which was an amazing deal. The breakfast was outstanding: lots of fresh meats and cheeses, cereals, breads, yogurts, coffee, tea, fruit, etc... The dinners, although you don't have a choice of many entrees, was fabulous, starting with a gorgeous fresh salad bar and then 2 or 3 courses, to include a main course, a side and a dessert. Very filling, and it was wonderful after two long days of hiking. Speaking of which, one great thing about Zallinger is you have access to hundreds of kilometers of hiking trails right from their front door. In any case, one of our favorite places to stay on our trip, and we would definitely stay again.
