We stay every year at least twice a year.
Rooms are very good value - architecturally great rooms
Lots of space - comfortable.
Friendly staff and really helpful.
Breakfast is entertaining and the waiter extremely helpful.
This is one of the best hotels nationally and although it could be seen as old fashioned it's charm and heritage is unique.
We wholly congratulate this hotel on consistently good value and good times.

Room Tip: Speak to reception stagg

I previously booked function rooms at this hotel and it is the worst experience I have encountered. Fire exits were blocked, floors filthy, staff unprofessional and rude, service terrible and the owner and manager could not have cared. Really appalling establishment, I would not recommend setting foot through the door. This hotel should not have any star rating and Best Western should be embarrased about their association with the hotel. I experienced a change of at least four managers, all lacking any knowledge of customer service and cleanliness. Dont waste your money staying here

Room Tip: Go somewhere else

On arrival there was no parking, being New Year's Eve, but the hotel staff soon made one available at the rear of the hotel. Checking-in was smooth and the receptionist, Emma, was welcoming and helpful. After checking-in, we made our way up to our room on the first floor, via the amazing marbled staircase with floor to ceiling mirror.
We booked a family room, which could sleep 4 people, that was beyond our expectation, especially the fantastic sea view.
We had a very pleasant stay; shame about the weather! The staff were warm and friendly and always willing to go the extra mile!
Breakfast in the conservatory style dining room was a pleasant experience looking out at the sea view.
Overall, we had an enjoyable stay and we are looking forward to returning again in the future.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view

Just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to the hotel for a wonderful Christmas Day lunch. The staff were amazing, as was the food...especially as it was so busy! There was one table of people complaining to themselves but every time the waiter asked them if everything was ok they did the classic English thing and said "yes, absolutely fine!".....anyway, we enjoyed ourselves and will be back again next year. Thank you Royal Victoria!!

The Royal Victoria hotel in St Leonards on Sea is a very nice hotel (at least in the public areas – I have never stayed there). So it seemed like an excellent choice for a relaxed and leisurely Xmas day lunch.
Sadly, our experience was neither relaxed nor leisurely, and the experience was far from excellent. The basic problem was that all the tables in the dining room had been squashed far too closely together (to maximize capacity). I have never had a meal in a restaurant before where personal space has been so regularly invaded by ‘traffic’ in the dining room knocking our bodies and our chairs to such an extent. This was perpetual throughout two hours with other diners and the waiting staff (the latter had a very difficult job in these circumstances).
However, worse, was the manner of the head waiter who continually shouted loud commands at the bewildered junior staff, whom most of the time could not understand his accent. This created and sustained a tense atmosphere in the dining room. Sadly, it must also be noted that the food was not great. Clearly the kitchen was under great pressure, and the meals gave the impression of mass production. However, there is no excuse for sprouts being so hard as to be completely inedible.
In a nutshell, the restaurant on this day was over-crowded, and the kitchen and waiting staff over-stretched. I like the Royal Vic, and would visit again for other purposes – but never again on Christmas Day.
