This is without doubt the best hotel I have ever stayed in.

From the minute we arrived at the airport and the polite, informative and efficient driver who took us to our hotel, to the wonderful ladies on reception who gave us an upgrade- it was perfect in every way.

All the staff knew our names instantly and did everything within their capability to make us at home and please us.

The food was beautiful and the staff would basically cook you anything you wanted and to your taste- totally off menu. The winde and cocktails were also fantastic!

The hotel itself was utterly beautiful too with lovely bathrooms, air conditioning and a fantastic view of the cove it is settled in.

The private beach was also a dream- with such attentive staff who are ready to take your drinks order or help you in anyway possible at any point.

This is truly a luxury hotel and I thought everything about it was fabulous!

Highly recommended!!

I challenge anyone to suggest a hotel better than villa st Andrea. Maybe villa d'este, which we recently stayed at but no others. The staff are just wonderful, especially Luigi in the restaurant, not to mention the charismatic GM Giovanni. Our room, junior suite was like a palace and the location of the hotel on the beach is what I dream about in an Australian winter. Sadly we had to leave, but like every thing good in life, it ends. Do yourself a favour and book a trip here. 5 days is the min!

Being not too impressed by the dirty Catania and unfriendly people there, I booked this hotel on the last day of my conference there hoping to have some relaxing time. I felt that it was the right choice the moment arriving at the gate. The view from my balcony of the double superior room was amazingly beautiful. The private beach was very lovely, even though the water was a bit cold back then I still went in for a swim. I then had these surprises by encountering the fish, sea anemones, huge sea cucumbers, and the sea urchins nearby the rocky bit of the beach (closer to the pool). I grabbed a sea urchin by using the seaweeds but still accidentally got stung when I slipped. I took it back to the room and got ready to dine in the restaurant and see if they could do anything with it. Then I was told the one I got was a male one so it's not tasty. Anyway the service was great and staff very friendly. The breakfast was good. HOWEVER....

I was very disappointed by the quality & taste of the food that evening at the restaurant. I had two seafood dishes and they were just mediocre and also lack of presentation. For me, they are maybe acceptable in a 4 star hotel (non sea bounded). The thing is, I happened to have some superb seafood dishes in an okay 4*Catania hotel restaurant (Hotel Villa del Bosco) the previous night.

Facilities: The view from the pool is beautiful but it's really small (less than 15m I think). I only had time to use the pool as the rest opens late and close early in May so didn't know what they were like.
Room: I would prefer the slippers in the room to be the comfy cotton ones instead of the hard bamboo huge man-sized flipflops. I found a hair on one of the bathrobe which was a bit gross when I opened the wardrobe.

All in all, it's a beautiful hotel with great views at every angle and staff very friendly. I've been thinking about returning this summer but the food at the restaurant is holding me back.

Room Tip: The room facing the beach is beautiful.

This hotel has lots of character and is superbly run, with very professional and dedicated staff. We arrived late into the evening and began to get the feel of the hotel as we walked down the sloping driveway with the music from the bar wafting up from below. We'd taken a junior suite, which was immaculate and a very good size, with a small balcony almost right over the rocky bay.

We noticed the small things that added up to the overall experience: Many of the staff take the care to learn your names; room servicing is followed each day by a separate check by a supervisor to ensure all is OK; fresh chilled complimentary fruit is brought round during the afternoon if you are by the beach or pool; the breakfast buffet is very nicely presented and a lot of care taken over breakfast.

The bar area is tastefully understated, with lots of comfortable chairs overlooking the bay and waiters/waitresses swishing around with energy and flair, but without any of the arrogance that you can sometimes find at top hotels. There was a piano player (Carmello was the name I believe) who deserves a mention as he (and occasionally joined by a lady) created a relaxed atmosphere and was very good (and would also weave the names of guests into his songs as he went).

A few other things:

- there is a cable car a minute's walk from the entrance to the hotel which will take you up into Taormina at 3Euros each way. It can however get quite crowded. As an alternative the hotel puts on a complimentary shuttle bus every 30 minutes to go up to its sister hotel in the town. The shuttle bus does however mean that you have to negotiate quite a number of steps to get into the town - not a problem for us, but we could see this being an issue for others.

- it's worth asking for recommendations from the Concierge if you eat in the town. We had a couple of 'unusual' lunches or dinners there before getting some recommendations.

- if we had any constructive criticism it is that the hotel restaurant food is good but did not seem to be of any higher standard than the nearby restaurants which were at considerably lower prices, but the setting is very nice indeed. Also we found that if you ordered wine by the glass, this was poured on the basis of minimum credible amount.

Overall, we'd definitely want to return to this hotel and would thoroughly recommend a stay here.

We stayed here for 3 nights during which we were joined by a couple of our oldest and best friends.
We loved it! The rooms are different from one another because it was previously a private villa.
The rooms we had were charming and had fantastic views. We found the food to be excellent and dinner in the Garden was relaxing. The town of Taormina is a beautiful hike up 1/2 mile of stairs up the hill. The reward is a drink at the sister hotel - Grand Hotel Timeo. The terrace of this much more formal hotel has a spectacular view over the coast of Sicily and you can see the coastline of Calabria as well (the toe of Italy) Taormina is a charming town with some really great restaurants.
Definitely worth the trip

Room Tip: try to get as close to the water as possible

We stayed four nights in this lovely hotel, situated on a beautiful bay just below Taormina.
I overheard someone say it was not as "Glam" as St. Tropez or Capri and that is true. This is how travelling used to be in the days before large chains built anonymous hotels. We booked the sea and mountain package which included a half-day tour to Mt Etna, which was brilliant - our driver was extremely professional, friendly and gave us a lot of interesting information on the region and etna on our drive to and from the volcano.
The hotel is full of character, so yes the rooms are a bit on the small side and the bathrooms aren't enormous, but they are both beautiful and the Penhaligon and Bulgari bath products add a touch of luxury.
Breakfast on a lovely terrace overlooking the bay, followed by bathing on the beach under the watchful eyes of Enzo who knows which are the shady spots, where to swim, etc. The front desk staff were lovely as was all the personnel right down to the lady doing the turning down for the night in the rooms. The shuttle service to and from Hotel Timeo in Taormina worked well for us.
We also ate 3 times at the hotel restaurant, each meal was very good and the wines proposed delicious. We were lucky to have a small balcony looking over the bay which just enhanced our stay. Each time I was at reception and guests were checking out, they were all asking to reserve for next year. Hope I will be so lucky.

Hotel staff are very friendly but ineffective. Some of the rooms advertised as water views are water views if you go out on the balcony and turn your head right. Like being in a parking lot for some of the rooms. Dining room nice but given the prices they charge they should deliver a better product. No coordination between staff taking the order and staff delivering the order. If you want to filet your fish don't only tell the waiter but also tell the person showing you the food before they plate it. Manager in ept. Food quality good. Would not spend the money
