My wife & I just left this morning from a 5 night stay at this lovely hotel. Our large, marble clad, junior executive suite with excellent bathroom fixtures, and large closet, over looked the beautiful bay. Breakfast served on the our terrace, cocktails in the evening on the main beach terrace with Carmello playing piano in the background, gorgeous landscaping and grounds, absolutely excellent staff, good food/vino; all were terrific. When we checked in, the GM, Giovanni Nastasi happened to be in the lobby, yet he made a special point of introducing himself and welcoming us as new arrivals. And Antonio, the concierge, was perfect-helpful, courteous, knowledgeable, articulate-the best. If it needed to happen, he made it happen. We have stayed at several OE resorts and this entire staff is just as good as it gets. The beach is right out your door step. The boys will set up your lounges, provide water, food-whatever you want and always with a smile. I give it a straight "A" and would gladly return. Taormina is a short car ride away or you can take the tram, which is about 100 yds. outside the hotel's gate. It's a fun town to walk around in with lots of good restaurants and shops. Villa Sant'Andrea is a perfect spot to live it up on a beach vacation. Mr. Nastasi runs an excellent operation!

We had a truly excellent stay at the Villa Sant'Andrea. We had already spent 5 days in Eastern Sicily seeing some sights, and were looking to relax with our family on the beach. This is the perfect location to do so. The service is amazing - every staff member is constantly trying to assist your every need -- and the hotel is set up for lounging. We had a deluxe suite, and the kids' beds were in a separate room from ours, which was nice. There was still room to walk around even with the beds there, and there was a lot of closet space. The beach and pool are beautiful and we never had trouble getting a nice place, even in high season. The shuttle into town every 15 minutes is extremely convenient, and those drivers especially helpful. It was also very easy to take the funicular from the hotel up to town, which we did occasionally because the kids enjoyed it. Breakfast on the beach terrace was beautiful, and the hotel had a candlelight dinner on the beach one night, which was very fun. One thing to consider when picking is that the hotel service is so good- speaking multiple languages and offering everything that anyone of any nationality might one (eg, my kids had pancakes every morning), that you sometimes lose the sense of being in Italy. It is more like being at a luxury resort anywhere.

My only minor nits would be (1) the lack of food options -- we often really didn't want to leave the hotel for lunch, but the kids did not like the "fancy" lunch menu at the hotel restaurant and the options at the more casual beach restaurant were enjoyable but limited. As a result, we went into town a few times when we would have preferred to stay by the beach. (2) we did have some trouble with the wifi in our room, and so had to use the public areas, which was a bit difficult at times given the time difference from the US (I was unfortunately trying to do a bit of work). But these were minor issues, and would no way affect our decision to stay there again. We recommend it to others without hesitation.

For as long as I can remember there have been two milestones in our year; August at the Sant’Andrea in Taormina and New Years Eve at Harry’s Bar in Venice. Each year our arrival at this hotel is a homecoming and each year the effort to improve and please the guests can be clearly felt.

From breakfast overlooking the sea (everything overlooks the sea) and Marcella’s cappuccino to the impeccably prepared beach and the service at the bars this place is a joy. Even housekeeping is extraordinary. Fresh flowers in the room every day, our untidy belongings neatly folded and put away and the power cord of the hair dryer so tightly wound around the handle that we were tempted to hide it in the room safe so that we wouldn’t have to unwind each evening.

The staff are young, full of energy and filled with an overwhelming desire to please. Not just the mechanical sort which comes from training only but a genuine hospitality which is part of the Sicilian character and the talent of the local management who understand the island’s qualities. This year they even managed to eliminate the jelly fish from the sea!

Since we know so many people in town we mostly eat at the local establishments but both the restaurant at the Sant’Andrea at the beach as well as the one at the sister hotel Timeo on a magnificent terrace overlooking Etna and miles of coastline are wonderful. If you do decide to eat outside of the hotel make sure to ask the concierge for advice and bookings since there are only 3 or 4 worthy establishments.

We have already booked 2013 and are eagerly looking forward to our party at Harry’s Bar which will bring us that much closer to our return to Taormina.

Room Tip: Deluxe overlooking the sea.

My husband & I were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversay, so we planned a special holiday. We booked a 2 week holiday in Sicily & Lipari. Firstly we stayed at the Orient Express sister hotel, Grand Hotel Timeo for 4 nights, Then we took a villa in Lipari, and to finish our holiday we booked 3 nights at the Villa Sant Andrea. We arrived starving at about 1pm. When we got to the desk, I think they said, sorry but we have upgraded you to a Junior suite! We were delighted, but as we were so hungry, we went straight to the restaurant. It is such a beautiful hotel, and the lunch we had was delicious. We are both real foody people and particularly love the Sicilian food. We were then taken to our suite, which was just wonderful. It had two good sized bathroom, one a bath the other a huge shower. It was on the 1st floor and not at all overlooked, and we had a huge terrace with views of the sea & the front of the villa.
The staff were all so friendly, and we were really well looked after. Nothing was too much trouble. The hotel has a lovely infinity pool that looks out to see. It also has a private beach. We went out to eat on out first night, big mistake, the food was terrible. We did go out on the shuttle to the town for dinner one night, but otherwise we just ate at the hotel. Normally we would never eat in hotel restaurants. We enjoyed our stay there so much, that we plan to go back next year & have the same room.

A huge thank you to all the staff who made our stay so wonderful.

We have recently returned from a 6 six night stay for our honeymoon. We had a suite with the most amazing view and each morning was a treat to open the balcony door. The hotel is good, definately 5 star for location but service can be improved upon. We are regular 5 star travelers and if paying the high Euro prices the hotel charge we except service. The staff are all lovely but often 'forgot' part of our breakfast order which left us waiting for ages. The concierge in my opinion could certainly be more proactive.... Our luggage was lost and we got information quicker about its whereabouts from our office back home who phoned Rome than we got from the Sicilian concierge.

The food is pricy and pretty average compared to the hotels we stayed at during the rest of our stay in Italy. The half board options includes lunch but excludes the daily salad bar..... Just dont understand that! Surely they could include the salad bar!

Overall a very pleasant stay. A dinner at the sister hotel Timeo is a must as the views are gorgeous.

Dear Guest,

First of all, we would like to thank You so much for choosing Villa Sant’Andrea as destination for you honeymoon and for sharing your feedback with us.

We are glad to receive such positive comments about the hotel, the room, the attitude of our staff and your dining experience at our sister property in Taormina, the Grand Hotel Timeo.

We are sorry that there were some misunderstandings with your breakfast order.

Our concierge team does his best to have the lost luggage delivered as soon as possible, but as you can imagine the researches and replies from the lost & found offices and from the airlines can take some time.

Our half board option allows our guest to choose between a daily à la carte lunch or dinner in our Oliviero Restaurant and in the main Restaurant at the Grand Hotel Timeo, offering many options and dining experiences to our guests. There is no restriction in terms of number of dishes included (only a few dishes – such as lobsters – can be ordered with a supplement) and normally the guests appreciate this variety of choices, including also the salad bar whenever ordered at the Restaurant. Only the snacks and the salad bar ordered at the Bar are not included in the half board.

We would like to thank You once again for your invaluable feedback: our guests’ comments are important to keep on improving the level of service.

We look forward to welcoming You back soon in our Villa and in any other hotels, trains and cruises part of the Orient-Express collection.

Best Regards from Taormina

My wife and myself have just returned from a 5 night stay @ villa sant'andrea. This was actually for our honeymoon to which we were immensely looking forward to.

The hotel itself is no doubt a 5 star property on the bay of Mazzaro and in an idillic setting, many of the photos do not do it justice,

Being our honeymoon, to which the hotel knew as I confirmed it before and ordered flowers for our room, we did not receive even a complimentary drink during our stay. We were not expecting much but the complete lack of care to our very special holiday really stayed with us. Previous holidays in similar priced / style resorts have out performed them in so many ways for special occasions,

I guess this summarises our experience with villa sant'andrea, a good resort, possibly the best in the area but thoroughly overcharged for what is offered, with a complete lack of personal touch to the guest,

We found the staff good on the whole, but no where near the 5* services that we have experienced at other resorts like the one and only. On quite a few occasions we had to repeat our drinks order and remind them we were still waiting, as well as on the first day seeing our pizzas given to another table at lunch and having to wait almost an hour from order to receive them.

As others have mentioned the food is good but no where near the €100 per head for a starter, main and wine each, compared to many of the other excellent restaurants.

In fact on the last day we noticed that the main restaurant menu prices had gone up, the salads had gone up from an eye watering €27 to €30, pizza €11 to €14, peroni to €9, but at least they held the 1lt bottles of water at €7 each

Dear Guest,

we would like to thank You so much for taking Your time to write us Your feedback.

We are glad that You chose our hotel for your honeymoon, and we are delighted to learn that You enjoyed your stay with us, our resort and its setting.

We are sorry to learn that in some respects your stay with us did not meet your expectations.

The attitude and the standard of service provided by our staff are normally very much appreciated by most of our guests, as You can read also in many reviews on Tripadvisor; we are sorry that during Your stay You didn’t have the same feeling.

Actually we have the pleasure to host many couples that choose our hotel for their honeymoon and we provide for a welcome amenity in their room to celebrate their first night with us.

Our Oliviero Restaurant is famous for it fresh seafood specialities and our regional dishes. Our Chef only use the freshest seasonal produce provided by the best local suppliers.
Our prices are in line with the market, with the produce used and with the standard of service provided.

In Our Snack Bar we propose a light lunch, with a choice of sandwiches, pizza, some main courses and a salad bar. The prices of our pizzas depend on the variety chosen.

We would like to thank You once again for your invaluable feedback: our guests’ comments are important to keep on improving the level of service.

We look forward to welcoming You back in our Villa and we remain at your full disposal for any additional assistance You may need.

What a fantastic hotel! Having just returned from a two week stay with my family the Villa Sant'Andrea must rank as one of the best hotels I've stayed in. The location is sublime, the restaurants excellent and the service is simply the best. An absolute gem that I heartily commend to all.

Room Tip: Definitely go for a deluxe room if possible as they have the best view.
