The hotel and staff are some of the best. Location is beautiful. Ariel tram to town was convenient. $70Euro for 3 glasses of local wine deterred us from trying the restaurant and spending more time on premises. Still one of the nicest places you will ever see.

Room Tip: Balcony rooms with a view

We had an enjoyable stay for 10 nights end Sept/beg Oct. The weather was very mixed but on the sunny days we made the most of the hotel’s perfect location for a beach holiday. The Superior Room was very comfortable with a little balcony with table and chairs, and a beautiful view. Plenty of towels and hanging space but just one very small drawer each, which was very limited for a 10 night stay. Breakfast was quite good but if you are a tea drinker you may want to ask for “acqua bollente” otherwise the water is served warm, not boiling.

The hotel's beach loungers were extremely comfortable, as many towels as you needed were provided and there were hot showers and changing rooms on the beach (no shampoo allowed). Up on the next level by the bar, there was another shower with shampoos etc provided and lockers, which were very handy if you wanted to go for a long swim or boat ride and leave your stuff safe. The small pool was heated and quiet, with a bar and a beautiful view. (The showers there had no shampoo or soap provided.)

The snorkeling was excellent, with crystal clear water whilst the weather was good, and plenty of fish. Unfortunately there were also jellyfish at that time (time of year?) but their stings weren't too bad - disappeared after 10 minutes or so - and didn't stop us from swimming. Quite entertaining watching others swimming, if you have a sadistic streak! Long-sleeved tops would help and water-shoes are a must because of the shingle. One day, we enjoyed watching the hotel’s beach staff fishing the jellyfish out with a net from a pedalo. We hired paddle boards - €30 per hour from the hotel’s beach staff or €15 from 50 metres along the beach (there are also canoes and motor boats). We paddled out a little way and snorkeled off the boards, it was idyllic. The early-morning sea was serene and glassy but watch out for afternoons when there may be quite a current outside of the little sheltered bay. The hotel provided a free daily boat trip with helpful commentary (in English as well) up until 3 October and that was worth doing early on so that you can see the coast either side of the hotel and plan further trips. They stop for soft drinks, fruit and a swim off the boat.

It is an easy 10 min walk from the hotel to Isola Bella along the main road and down about 125 steps to the beach. Never did manage to swim there but it was strongly recommended… wear shoes though! Wade over to see the house on the island.

The hotel lunches on their terrace were very elegant and in a beautiful setting but priced accordingly (small portions!). Mostly we ate lunch at the beach café next door, which was excellent, and dinner in Taormina’s many restaurants. The hotel provided a free, 7 seater shuttle every half-hour to and from their sister hotel in Taormina high up on the hill, which took 20 mins up and 10 – 15 mins down. It drops you off in the gardens of their other hotel and you walk through the hotel and down the hill to the main street. If we asked nicely, the driver would drop us off at the other end of the main street, which was sometimes preferable. The cable car is very close by and a much faster alternative (4 mins), but €3 each way.

The hotel charges €40 euros per day for parking, so if money is no object that is the easiest (and safest) option. We chose to park in Mazzaro public car park, a couple of minutes walk down the road, which cost €13 per day, less if you didn’t move the car for 4 days or more. You can see exactly where it is on Google Earth. If you are really lucky you might find free parking in the road.
All in all, an amazing location and a great beach holiday.

The hotel is in an incredible location with fantastic views, and all the staff we met were extremely friendly and efficient (beach staff, maids, breakfast). Days were spent on the private beach until c 4 when it shaded over (which was plenty for me) - lots of loungers with a great view of the boats coming and going, protected from rough seas so great for safe swimming (and paddle boarding - although the water was chilly being October). Breakfast is one of the best I've had - continental buffet but happy to cook you any hot dishes on demand. Trips to town easy either via cable car or free shuttle van. For those perusing general reviews for tips - cost of travel from/to the airport is an issue to consider - DO NOT do what we did - which was use the taxi rank at the airport - when presented with a e165 bill for a 40m trip our holiday began with an argument and heated negotiation. The hotel provide a service for e130 but if you want a taxi do what we did on the way back and search online where they are c e70. Only comment (not a criticism as it is their business) is that drinks/food at the hotel are extremely expensive - even when compared with the local area. As such we ate/drank elsewhere and I do wonder if they lowered their prices they may actually make more money via volume - the prices were just too much of a premium for us to indulge - then again others were so maybe we're just not wealthy enough !!!

We have just spent a very pleasant 10 days at this lovely hotel. Our room was excellent with a wonderful view over the Bay of Mazzaro. Looking out was the perfect way to wake up from a comfortable night’s sleep. The housekeeping in the room was outstanding and we found all of the staff, especially those at breakfast,

to be very friendly, genuine and helpful. The Sicilian people as a whole were some of the nicest we have ever met on our travels.

We only ate in the hotel once except for breakfast and found the food to be only average at best. Whilst I appreciate the level of service provided I did not think that the food justified the price charged. As others have mentioned we also felt that the price of drinks was also too high and we have stayed at other 5 star hotels in Italy where the prices were more reasonable.

The nightly shuttle service to Taormina was very much appreciated and the drivers were always very friendly and obliging. We would love to return one day and hopefully experience better weather next time!

Gorgeous hotel with stunning views, wonderful staff and great breakfast. BUT ridiculously small room (especially the bathroom where only one of us fit in) dark (try to get Ocean View!) with very thin walls. We didn’t sleep a single night hearing every word next door and above us and especially in front of the door where guest and staff kept walking by and through which light was shining at all times. The rooms do not reflect the price and definitely have no 5 star quality. Really disappointed.
