“Good location for the beach and only a 2 min walk to the cable car to Taormina”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 June 2013

Stayed at this hotel for 5 nights to celebrate a friend's wedding in Taormina. The location was perfect for the beaches and only 2 mins walk to the cable car to Taormina town.
Although this hotel is advertised as 4*, I would say it is more of a 3* standard, but nonetheless I was happy with my room.

However, I would point out that although there is quite interesting technology that was clearly installed in the room (for example, there were buttons by the bed to open the curtains automatically) unfortunately none of this technology worked. The air conditioning seemed faulty too, if you are staying in the peak hot months of the year, it may be uncomfortable.

Please note that the Internet is only available in the main reception area and it was not free.

Parking is also expensive at €20 per night.

There was a hotel down the road called Atlantis bay which offered Internet and parking for free, so if you need that and don't mind a further 5 min walk to the beaches and the cable car then you may choose that hotel.

Otherwise, a decent base for exploring Taormina.

This very modern hotel is also very comfortable. We had only one small issue with our air conditioning, which is on a brand new hotel wide electronic system, but that was quickly fixed. Located just a couple of blocks from the cable cars that take you back up to Taormina and across the street from one of the best restaurants we ate at while in Sicily (look for the bright orange place), this hotel was very nice. The dinner food was good. The morning buffet had a few minor problems but otherwise was good. The afternoon happy hour was great. We really enjoyed out drinks or cappuccinos by the pool each afternoon. This was the last of the hotels where we stayed and I only had one true complaint. In the other two hotels wifi was free. Here you have to pay for it and use up all that you pay for right then and there. Otherwise our stay was very nice indeed.

Stayed two nights. The hotel is elevated and provides some beautiful views over the water. The pool area is excellent - again with great views.

The staff were all helpful. Pay for wifi and need to get new codes every hour. That's somewhat inconvenient and is only available in a few locations in the ground floor area.

Limited undercover parking is available but entrance is tricky to find if you arrive, as I did, when via Nationale is very busy!

Room facilities are modern. Limited explanation in the room on the use of facilities. Poor air con in room.

Two excellent restaurants directly opposite hotel.

This hotel is aweful. Room place and view is good but everything els is awful. Breakfast and lift is awful. Manager is not friendly at all. When there is a problem manager loughs and pretends that he doesn't speak English. Also there is no doors in toilet. This thing is really bad

Gentile ospite,

not a good experience.
lifts too slow, we always took stairs.
old narrow hallways.
breakfast mediocre.
My advice, go to the hilton in giardini naxos,,, approximately same price, but much better quality
The unrenovated rooms are way below average....

I've booked this hotel before reading all these dreadful reviews here, and I'm glad I did. Because after reading all of this I was almost in despair: we can't cancel our reservation, our holiday will be ruined! They say the hotel doesn't look as pictured!

Well, actually it does. Maybe they have some bad rooms, but we stayed in room #334 with a beautiful sea view, and I can't say anything bad about it.

Good things are:
– Clean and spacious room with amazing sea view.

– Friendly and really helpful staff.

– Air condition lets you forget it's +33C outside.

– They give you discount for El Delfino beach (summer 2012: normally beach costs 20 euro per day and it's 16 for Villa Esperia guests).

– The beach is a very short walk from the hotel, Villa Esperia is very close to cable car to historical center of Taormina, post office and beautiful Isola Bella beach is within 10 minutes walk.

– 2 very good restaurants are just across the road (ristorante da Andrea Taormina and ristorante Castelluccio)

Not so good things are:
– Expensive and not so good WiFi connection which works only in lobby area (WiFi is problem in all town, actually). For a stay that expensive they must give you a free WiFi right in your room.

– Staying in that room was pricey, I try to forget the amount of money spent. But it turned out Taormina is expensive town, everything there was a little bit over-priced.

– I was a little bit tired of breakfast on our 4th stay day, I think they need to add more variety.

– They need to hang a curtain, plant a bush or install screen between room terraces. It feels uncomfortable to see neighbors that near.

Would I recommend this hotel? Yes, sure! Especially the room with a sea view. Will I stay there again? Maybe. I'll try to search a hotel with it's own beach first, compare prices and if I won't find anything affordable in that area, I'll come back to Villa Esperia.

Small WiFi hint: do not buy it in Villa Esperia, go to Hotel Villa Bianca bar instead (it's just near the cable car, via Nazionale 228). Have a cup of coffee and enjoy the best WiFi connection found in coastal Taormina (as of July 2012 :))

Room Tip: Room #334 with a sea view was great!

Taormina (and Mazzaro, at the base of the cliff) can be very expensive and crowded in the high season, but remains very special nevertheless. This hotel is at the base (Mazzaro), close to cable car and close to the small beaches.
In August 2011 only part of the hotel was renovated and not everything around was perfect (lobby and pool included). Our room was brand new, very clean and very modern. The food... just average at best. The pool... small, with a nice view, but close to the main road (we never used it). Parking... small/limited places. The prices... high, but that's almost normal there (look for early booking or for June/September, if you want somehow lower prices, but be careful regarding the room offered). I rate it "average" now, but with the refurbish ended inside and out, it could easily go up to "very good".
The beach is crowded but can be fun. The city above is marvelous, with plenty of good restaurants and bars. Look for the musical events in the greek classic amphitheater.
If you go to Sicily, you shouldn't miss Taormina for two or three days. And take my word... it's money well spent!
