“Lovely place...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 January 2013

This is a delightful little low rise beachfront Swahili style hotel, with thatched roofs on the terraces of bungalows. Some are beach front, so you can see the reef from your little terrace. Very clean, well maintained, coral stone pathways. Bathrooms in standard rooms are small but satisfactory. Deluxe rooms are massive and have an additional single bed and large bathroom. Monkeys in the grounds and bushbabies, although you just hear them, never see them!
Staff are without exception fantastic: friendly, helpful, kind, hardworking. There are some acitivities arranged to join in.
However: all the guests are Italian, from a package holiday company. This is great, if you are Italian, as the food is geared towards Italian tastes. The buffets aren't massive, but tasty and they have fresh fish and barbecues, sometimes on the sand. But then again, that does mean they have an espresso machine!
I would happily go back tomorrow, it's such amazing value and super little place on a beautiful beach. But I'll need to take some more international friends because I don't speak Italian I'm afraid.

under Italian ownership a complete disaster. There is no investment and the quality of the rooms is just awful. It stinks.
Furthermore there were many electricity blackouts, which they seem unable to fix.
The beach is great however, but that is probably the inly thing.....
If you want a nice and decent place, we recommend to look for another hotel.

My wife and I went to Sheshe in May and had an amazing time. We were the only two guests at the hotel but were treated with the same attitude by the staff as the other reviewers. The manager, Mustafa was amazing. Even drove us to Diani when my wife was not feeling well.

It is a nice secluded, quite beach front and the hotel is way off the highway (about a 10 minute drive from the highway through a couple of villages) which was the reason we stayed there. Being from Kenya I have seen the resorts which pack in so many guests you feel like you are in Miami. We wanted a quite place and SheShe was the perfect place.

The food was excellent, the chef extremely receptive to our requests. Our last night we did not have power but they still set us up a great dinner on the beach under the stars.
The only thing I wasn't happy about was the pool. The three days we spent there the pool filtration was not working and it was off limits. If I could put fractions on the review, I would give it 4.75 stars; the pool not working cost those points.

All in all, it was a great experience; the staff was professional and the manager was excellent. The reservation process was handled by one of the owners and she was amazingly patient and handled the other part of our trip through Tsavo also, even though she worked through a different travel agency.

Great place. If you are looking for a nice, intimate quiet place to relax then look no further.
This hotel has great rooms, a fine staff, a beautifull reef in front of the hotel and a nice pool.

The staff is very friendly.
Ask them to take you on a trip over the reef, it's absolutely georgeous.
They can also arrange a diving/snorkling trip or a safari to Shimba hills or show you around the nearby village. But if you are looking for a crowded place full of tourists who are looking for a disco this isn't the place to be.

The rooms are big enough and clean. Eveything works, shower, toilet, safe and airco.
The beds are very good. Matresses may be on the hard side for some though.
Good restaurant, try the grilled fish or the big T-bone steak. Don't forget to eat as you will be staring at te view from the restaurant. You will see the fisherman pass by and with the change of the tides the reef becomes accessible.

There is a possibility to use the internet.
The pool is clean and there are beds next to it so you can relax. Towels are provided at the pool. These are also waiting for you at the beach so you can unwind in the shade of palmtrees and watch the antics of the local monkeys.

The monkeys are not afraid of people so mind your things and keep you doors shut. I saw one walking with a carton of juice some day...

In the afternoon or after dinner you can have a drink at the bar which is located next to the pool. The prices for drinks and food are very fair. No problems there.

So in conclusion: A great place to stay if you are looking for peace and quiet and natural beauty.

We stayed at this resort for a week in late August and had a great time. We have two girls ages 9 and 11.

Here's what we liked:

- the hotel staff was outstanding: friendly, helpful and prompt with requests
- food was excellent: the chef cooked up our requests every day and made fresh donuts for breakfast
- rooms were not super fancy but spotless and comfortable. The only thing we did not like was that our rooms had sliding glass doors and the locks were not very substantial. Also, the safes in our room did not work.
- pool was huge, warm and clean
- beach was beautiful with a huge reef for exploring at low tide
- one of the employees took us for a couple of beach walks showing us things we would not have found on our own, he also gave us a lesson in climbing palm trees which the kids loved
- we were at the hotel during low season and for several days, we were the only guests. We enjoyed this because we got to know the staff and had fun interacting with them.
- there is a troop of vervet monkeys who live nearby and entertained us daily
- the hotel offers hair braiding, henna tatoos, massages etc - quite nice
- at high tide there is good body surfing off the beach

This is what you should also know:

- Tiwi is quite remote and there is nothing to do at Sheshe aside from the pool/beach
- there is nowhere to go unless you get a taxi into nearby Diani Beach which costs about 1,500 shillings
- there wasn't great snorkeling off our beach and it was very expensive to go on a day trip snorkeling - over $300 U.S. for our family of four. We passed.
- there are beach boys who are really annoying and scary if you try to walk along the beach. You can't take a camera or wear any jewellery if you are going on to the beach. This scenario is pretty common along the entire coast of Kenya, and probably elsewhere as well. We were lucky and one of the hotel employees walked with us, and this helped a lot.
- there is a large portion of the beach that the hotel patrols with a security guard so beach boys leave you alone. But once you head down to the water, you are fair game.
- this hotel does not have a gift shop or anywhere to buy supplies like aspirin, magazines, suntan lotion etc. If you require supplies, you need to go to Diani where there is a large store called the Nakumat
- some days there were a lot of weeds in the water with the incoming tide. Other days it was clear.

Overall, we really enjoyed Sheshe Baharini and would recommend it if you want a quiet getaway. We would not hesitate to go back there again.

Sheshe is without doubt in a amazing spot. However, ...... I had to move after three nights as we consistantly had no power during the day and one day no power from about 11am to 9pm. The staff were excellent but the management were not responsive to many issues faced. Such as the power issue, one staff member asking to borrow money. The food was on the whole good however I should have known when I booked in and found out I was the only guest in a 40+ room operation all was not well. The manager in particular was totally unsympathetic and was only interested in money. The North Coast where I went was much, much better and hotel management amazing.
