After four days in a game camp we wanted to be away from it all in comfort and tranquility. We found it!!
We started off in Master room 2, a lovely spacious room overlooking the infinity pool and further out across the Indian Ocean. The impeccable service started immediately. Nothing was ever too much trouble for any of the staff who were perhaps the most attentive and friendly that I had ever encountered. Breakfast, lunch or dinner could be taken wherever one wished - by the pool, on the beach or on one's own verandah and the quality and standard of food was excellent.
After four nights we moved to Private Villa 1 and this was an eye-opener! A traditional palm thatched cottage set in its own grounds with a 20 metre infinity pool all for ourselves plus seats and loungers strategically placed either to catch some shade or for a better view across the ocean. We did spend most of our time in our little piece of Heaven, enjoying the sun, the swimming and the excellent lunches served to us.
We did join the other guests at cocktail hour before sitting down for another excellent dinner.
Frederik, the owner has built a charming retreat, staffed by an excellent team who go out of their way to make every day special. We will definitely return.

Room Tip: Go the extra mile and splurge on a private villa. If not, then master room 2 is excellent

We were looking for privacy.
We found the MBH ! In MBH you’re at home. It’s an amazing place to rest, enjoy the sun, take a winter break !
We had booked the Lamu House # 3. Monkeys were visiting us in the morning, they were playing in the trees…
We enjoyed every minute there. The large, infinity pool looking the ocean is fantastic, the Jaccuzi, the decoration of the room, the bathrooms…Everything is PERFECT
The food and all the preparations of the chef are tasty, so fresh. You can eat on the beach, on the main pool, on your private terrasse. You have just to ask ! If you don’t like the meals, you can always have something else. The staff is so professional, everybody is smiling, happy to help, to be of services.
Also, a special thank to Terry so professional , David, Bushuti and the wonderful Sharon.
But.. nothing would happen without Frederik - Thank you very much Frederik for this wonderful place you manage ! Didier and Annick

Room Tip: Special tip : book a private villa !

We had an absolutely perfect stay at Msambweni Beach House. The main house and villas are set in beautiful lush gardens, and come with gorgeous views of the blue ocean. The rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated, and we very much enjoyed both the pool at the main house and the one in our private villa. The whole place has a very calming and relaxing atmosphere – perfect for recovering from safaris or for recharging for a busy week at work.

The food is excellent: very flavourful and fresh, and beautifully presented. We fully enjoyed every meal, and the little surprises that came with them. The staff takes good care to understand your dietary requests, and is very flexible in catering each meal to your preferences. You even get an endless choice of locations of where to have your meals!

We were particularly impressed with the service; all the staff members we interacted with were extremely warm and welcoming, and very attentive. Both the staff and the management are 100% committed to ensuring their guests are happy, and are very eager to have feedback and to maintain consistently high standards. You really feel like you are getting a personalized experience, catered to your specific needs and wishes.

In addition to rest and relaxation, there are plenty of activities that can be organized. We only stayed for two days, but had time for a bike ride through the village which we would highly recommend. The beach is also excellent for long walks, very calm and quiet with perfect white sand. Swimming is only possible at high tide, which we didn’t find to be a problem at all.

We were very sad to leave Msambweni Beach House, and cannot wait to be back for our next visit!

Room Tip: Room 1 in Main House is beautiful and very spacious. If you don't mind having a bit less privacy...

We spent the last 4 nights of our holiday at the hotel. The safari camps had set really high standards but Msambweni House did not disappoint us!
The place is beautiful, quite isolated (a plus for us but do not go there if you are interested in the town amenities, night life, bars and water sport facilities!) and facing a long unspoilt beach. The hotel is very well maintained and the service is superb: not just efficient but attentive and "warm", something I especially appreciated. The owner and managers are genuinely keen on listening to their customers and to make sure they get the best possible experience. They seem to appreciate honest, constructive feedback and are constantly working on improvements.
We liked the food, made with fresh ingredients and cooked to perfection. My son especially loved the small garnish-yourself pizzas. You can have your meals by the pool or on the beach or in the villa, which is rather nice!
As we suggested while there, the bathroom in villa 1 will benefit from a refresh. It did not bother us at all as it was sparkling clean and well equipped but it is one of those little details that can make a difference between very good and excellent.
My recommendations is to choose this place if you look for relax and tranquillity, as well as for great views of the ocean. One day trips can be easily taken. We went to Kisite marine park and really enjoyed the day out. It requires a quite early start but no worse than early morning game drives and totally worth it!

Msambweni is a lovely, Swahili-style house right on the beach. The food was good ( we had a lovely barbecue on the beach one night), the rooms were simply decorated but clean and really relaxing, with a large balcony. The pool is beautiful and one of the villas has its own private pool. The staff are helpful without being too in-your-face.

We were there for a friend's wedding - it was the perfect place for an intimate, beautiful ceremony on the beach.

I'd definitely come back here.

We stayed at Msambweni Beach House for 6 days following 6 nights on safari. This place needed to be something exceptional to compete with the safari camps that we stayed at.

We were greeted on arrival by Terri with cool towels and a refreshing drink. This set the tone for the entire stay. The staff were very attentive without being intrusive.

We stayed in the main house in Master Room I, what a fantastic room. The staff had arranged flowers on our bed and balcony wishing us a happy anniversary, along with a bottle of wine; a very thoughtful touch.

During our stay, the main house only had the occasional guest so we had this to ourselves, pretty much. This also meant that we had the pool to ourselves for the duration of our stay.

The food was of a very high standard. A comprehensive breakfast selection, that covered all of our requirements, started each day. Then it was decision time 1, what to eat for lunch and dinner? The suggestions were always varied and well thought out and whatever we chose we were never disappointed. On the Sunday we were offered pizza for lunch, this was a great idea and called for at least 2 visits to the ‘make your own pizza table’. The fresh fish that was offered daily was a real treat and prepared in a variety of ways to keep the interest going.

Decision time 2, pool or beach? In fact, most days we did both. A morning stroll while the tide was out then back in the afternoon for a swim at high tide. A special mention to the guys that look after the beach area; they did a great job of keeping the beach clean and made sure that we had what we needed. The beach is also the place to have a massage. My wife and I both took advantage of the massage service and I highly recommend this to anyone.

During dinner on our first night the staff sang songs to us to celebrate our anniversary. It was a lovely touch and very much appreciated by both of us.

I summary this place is very special. Made even more so by Terri and her colleagues. They were always smiling and happy to help. Nothing was too much trouble – even running the bath and filling it with flowers.

If I have one negative comment it would be this. All local drinks are included but premium spirits are not. If you want a premium drink then there is a modest charge for this. Given that we were paying over USD400 per person per night, charging a couple of pounds for a premium G&T seems a little pointless.

Anyway, complaint over. As I said at the start of this review, this needed to be an exceptional place to complete our trip, and it was. This is a little piece of paradise on the Kenyan Coast and if I find myself on the East Coast of Africa in the future I will definitely stay here.
