What a beautiful country Barbados is!! My daughter and I arrived at the airport on the 14th of July and was transferred to this hotel with no problems what so ever. When we arrived at the hotel we had a very warm welcome and we was given rum punch and fruit punch straight away. Our first impression of the hotel was very nice, bright and very clean! Our porter Huuh warmly introduced himself to us and kindly escorted us to our room with our luggage, whilst doing this he gave us a little tour around the resort informing us where to go and what to do in the resort. Our apartment was stunning we was on the ground floor but right at the end of the resort which we felt was scary as it was just my daughter and I on our own, Huuh agreed with this and told us to speak to the manager to get another room. The duty manager Paul was very friendly and was very accommodating and changed our room for us the next day, our room was situated on the 3rd floor with a superior ocean view. Both restaurants The Reef and Enid's served outstanding food throughout the day. The staff in both restaurants were extremely friendly even when they were very busy they still had a smile on their face and made us feel relaxed and comfortable, the staff who went above and beyond for us were Michael, Beverley and Cecil to name a few of the staff. The staff on the resort as a whole were very friendly, such as Nicola and Karene the guest service staff, Vicky the shop keeper, Tameka and Steve the excursion organisers , Trey the porter for the restaurants and Phillip one of the taxi drivers of the resort. The cleaners on the resort were very friendlyy, hard working and cleaned our room everyday. The staff that worked on the beach for the non motorised sports such as Jamar and Rashad were very friendly and helped my daughter and I on the kayaks as we did a terrible job of it ourselves. The staff that worked on the motorised sports such as Edmo was very friendly and made sure we was comfortable on the beach. Even if we didn't mention all the names of the staff all the staff was amazing! The entertainment each night wasn't the best but the night before we left they put on a fantastic and interactive show which we really enjoyed. A MUST TRY is Jammin Catamaran you will not be disappointed ,this is arranged with guest service. On a whole we enjoyed everyday at Almond Beach Resort and wished we never left, with that we will hopefully be returning in February or March as rumour has it that the resort will be closing in April 2015 :( Keep the resort open! Money worth spent on this holiday!

Room Tip: The blue block ocean view, the higher floor the better.

We have just returned from a 16 night holiday with our children (12 & 6). We have been 16 times over the past 20 years and also got married here. There really is no other resort like it in Barbados and I feel (along with many many others) that when sandals take it over and bulldoze it then the heart will have been ripped out of the west coast and Barbados will once again become an elitist island that normal folk cannot afford to visit.
I spent a lot of time visiting other affordable resorts trying to find a replacement and none compared. If you want expensive, sophisticated boutique type hotels then there are plenty but I don't know many sophisticated boutique type children!
Even though the almond is half it's size it still offers fantastic accommodation,2 excellent restaurants, great food, great spacious swimming pools and the best coastline in Barbados for swimming and water sports. The physical layout of the buildings really really works which is why we have returned so many times with our children. The swimming pools, kids club, toilets, restaurant, beach, mini golf, basketball, tennis etc etc are fantastic for children. The environment is so safe for them giving them freedom and peace of mind for parents. Not sure how sandals (beaches) could top this other than a spruce up.
The staff were fantastic as usual, from Hugo the porter,Sandra the housekeeper,Cecil and Gregory in the restaurants,Patricia in Enid's and gorgeous Lucille at the reef bar. Front Office Manager Paul Bridgeman is also an asset to the company and always obliging, professional and helpful.
For those that prefer smaller, sophisticated boutique hotels then just be sure one night to cock an ear up the west coast to hear holiday goers having fun Bajan style, the laughter will ring in your ears a long time.
Au revoir Almond, let's hope that sandals don't commercialize this perfect spot where locks and key cards are needed to enter through big steel gates off the beach, now that would be criminal.

Anita Bedwin,family and friends.

Room Tip: Room 7234,great sea view and accommodated 4 of us comfortably in 3 beds.

Stayed 5 days - 2 adults in a pool view room. Excellent customer service from the moment we booked. Even though we arrived early, we were allowed to have lunch and enjoy the resort's amenities until our room was ready. Our room was on the ground floor and mere steps away from one of the pools, and a few more steps from the bar. Meals never disappointed and drinks were always tasty. They didn't scrimp on the alcohol either. With 5 pools and a long stretch of awesome beach we had enough water time to last us until our next vacation. Very efficient equipment hut with very encouraging staff. Was kinda chicken to do kayaking by myself so a staff member offered to take me. Guys on the beach operating jet ski rentals also friendly and had decent prices. The glass bottom boat/snorkel with the turtles trip was very memorable. Thanks to the boat captain that went off-course to show us the huge shipwreck under the water. I must applaud the management of this resort for a job well done with the grounds and staff. Never an unfriendly comment or glance. Also, the numerous activities included in the package made sure there was always something to do. Rooms were nice, albeit the bed was squeaky; but you only need the room for sleep. All in all a great holiday that we will never forget.

Room Tip: Ground floor pool view rooms allow easy access to everything

We visited the resort inMarch 2014 and have already reviewed it, but I have noticed that the Thomas Cook website is advertising holidays with misleading photos. It shows the large swimming pool by the beach as being useable. Please note that is derelict and is on the closed off section of the resort, as is the windmill.

This was our 4th visit to the Almond Beach over the last 10 years and it never fails to exceed our expectations! The staff are the friendliest staff in any hotel across the whole island, they get to know each and every person and after 3 days knew my name and my favourite drink- preparing it for me before I even asked.

Although the pools were slightly shallow, a new one had opened the day before we arrived and we pretty much had it to ourselves! It was Absolutly spotless and there were plenty of sunbeds available- slightly lacking in umbrellas though.

Food wasn't excellent, but they managed to cater extremely well to our vegetarian needs, the menu's in each of the two restaurants were the same every night and every lunch time but there were still many options.

One of the many things Almond Beach offer are their free trips, we went on the turtle trip which was excellent- as always, would of loved to of gone on to the jeep ride around the island but there was no availability- so book asap!!

The rooms were spacious and spotless with beautiful views of the beach. Overall our stay at Almond Beach was an extremely memorable one, and it's such a shame to see the hotel will be taken over next year by Sandals as for many people this hotel was perfect.
