I spent a week at the Hilton Barbados and it was absolutely the most fantastic hotel that I have ever stayed in. The staff were just amazing, the accommodations were fabulous. We had a male house keeper and he was awesome. The food was amazing. I would highly recommend this hotel, it's the best.

We have spent nearly 2 weeks at the Hilton and have stayed at a few around the world. The airport transfer went smoothly to the hotel for $38 USD.

However, on arrival there wasn't much of a welcome. Most other Hilton's welcome Honors Members at least with a welcome drink or greeting. We received nothing. Most other Hilton's help you with your baggage and take it to your room- not here. This didn't happen. We had to do it ourselves.

We were a family of 4 and asked for 2 inter-connecting rooms but were placed on different floors. This didn't seem much of a problem until my 18 year old son returned to his room one afternoon and found another man in it! Very poor security as this person had just gained entry to his room. We went straight down to Reception and spoke to the manager (Alana) who was very apologetic and agreed to move us to interconnecting rooms the next day. She offered us a complimentary meal at one of the restaurants which was wonderful. A great response. However, we still don't know how this person entered my son's room. Not good!

The welcome evening on the Wednesday with cocktails was very poor. Senior staff were supposed to be in attendance but we only saw Pablo who did a good of chatting to everyone. This we felt was poor. All senior staff managers should have been there as promised- no excuses really.

The other meal we had at the Careenage Bar was poor and I wouldn't recommend it. You can have a better meal for less at other places on the island.

The Executive Lounge was good value. Continental breakfast consists of either boiled or scrambled eggs, cheese, ham (beef sometimes), porridge, salmon pate', croissants, cereals, Danish pastries, muffins, bread/toast, melon, pineapple.

There are snacks around 11am usually banana cake, biscuits with cherries on, sometimes a little fruit. In the evening around 5pm usually cheese and biscuits, sandwiches or samosas or spring rolls or chicken wings. Soft drinks are free. Alcohol you pay for. Wi-Fi is free in the lounge and lobby. The second week staff asked us if we wanted snacks in the evening, however, the first week we had to ask. So if you want something ask for it. It's up to you! We found most of the staff very friendly. Make the effort to speak to them.

The gym is pretty good (if you're a fanatic like me) and is not on the 6th floor. Pool is ok. Very quiet at night in the hotel with a few open mic nights, Karaoke nights. Get a ZR bus for 2 BBD anywhere to get you out or hire a car. If you want to see some life/culture you'll be bored just staying in the hotel. Get out and explore! Some great sunsets around.

This hotel is in a nice location!! Forget those expensive cab rides unless u r wearing heels and really don't feel like walking but if you walk down the hill u can catch a local bus or $ US 1 (per person)...once at the bottom of the hill...Buses going to your right -- takes u to the gap and buses(vans) to your left takes u to Bridgetown.. Easy... simple pay attention and vans are frequent! Hotel food not bad at all in fact the bar had good quesadillas and very tasty wings!! Walk down hill to lefties or the other sweet lady at the shack for a quick cheap on the beach early morning bite to eat...for a calmer pebbles beach and fly fish sandwich for breakfast ... Beats the $25 US we paid for dry toast and tea one morning when my boyfriend was sick!! I knew kids were at the hotel but so what ... It wasn't crazy nor unbearable!!

My 12-year-old really enjoyed the pool and environs, and it was a safe place for him to hang out with other guests' kids while I worked. The beach was beautiful, and the nearby water sports (jet ski and snorkeling expeditions) were fantastic.

We bought a daypass at the Hilton Barbados this August 2014. The hotel was truly lovely and the staff was friendly and helpful. The open air lobby was very inviting and the infinity pool was just perfect. The grounds are nice and the views were superb. The beach is on the Atlantic side so the waves are quite rough. There was a lifeguard that made sure no one went very far out in the surf. The pools are the best place to swim at this resort. The beach was nice and there were lounge chairs available. Didn't see any hotel staff on the beach to assist or take drink orders, which would have been nice. We ate at the beach bar restaurant. The food was pretty good. Overall, really enjoyed the day at the Hilton.

Either be prepared to spend $30 US on cab rides for every meal you don't want to eat at the hotel, or be prepared to walk 1.5 miles to get to anything. "Family Friendly" means lots of kids. There was a limited number of beach umbrellas/chairs that get snatched up early in the morning by people who put towels on them to "reserve" them for the day and then leave for hours to do whatever. I don't blame the Hilton for rude people, but they did create the process that allows for it.

The service was extremely slow! Servers in Barbados don't multi-task well, which causes many tables to wait to order drinks, order food, get the bill, etc. We waited 20 min just to get drinks. Service is especially slow during happy hours; it's not just an increased workload, they actually go slower. It's a very interesting phenomenon.

I would not recommend this hotel if you want peace and quiet, romantic atmosphere, beach umbrella availability, or closeness to a city where you can shop, buy supplies, or eat at restaurants.
