Although I knew that early November is a bit too early in the season for good deep sea fishing in Barbados, it was the time we would be in Barbados, so it was now or never. After considerable reseach via the internet, and contact with various captains, Legacy seemed to stand out as the best serious fishing boat. On the appointed day, we made our way to the docks and were greeted by Jono and his mate, Mario. Both were very friendly people and with no further ado, we headed out. Jono worked very hard to get me fish, going all the way North to the top of the island, back down again, and spending time at the spots he thought were going to produce. The crew were obviously professionl and prepared, including the entertainment provided by our chats with Mario, who is an interesting and hard working young man. To give an idea of the challenges we were up against, the day before there had been an all island wahoo tournament with only 3 fish caught. We got a few half-hearted strikes from small fish, landed two small barracuda and some tiny tuna, and in a last ditch effort headed south of the harbor. At the eleventh hour, a massive strike resulting in a hard fighting and beautiful 30 pound wahoo. One of the best tasting fish dinners I have ever eaten. by the way. An excellent day and I am already thinking about returning to fish with Legacy at a more productive season.
