Me and my family (two adults and 2 kids) stayed at Lychen House last August for two weeks and loved every minute of it. Getting to Lychen was very easy... fly to Berlin then train to Fürstenberg And then 5 minute taxi to Lychen. Lychen House is in the heart of Lychen… a small and perfectly formed town around 100km north of Berlin. Surrounded by numerous lakes, beaches and forest, Lychen is the definition of what a family holiday should be… safe, relaxed swimming, canoeing, walking, cycling, BBQs and of course pint of Germany's finest!:)
Lychen House is conveniently located right in the middle of the old town and is a recently renovated former court house. It is very spacious and has excellent facilities with parking right outside and a great back yard for the obligatory BBQ! The hosts and owners, Mark and Sara, were great and nothing was a problem. They were very knowledgeable on the area and were only to keen we used the bikes and canoes. Cycling in Lychen is amazing… me and my wife loved nothing more than a 10 mile cycle first thing in the forest with the whole track paved! Just beautiful :) We used the canoes to take the kids exploring the lakes and stopped at various points to have a refreshing swim. A lovely place we found to swim was Strandbad which is very safe for the children. Another great one was Kronsee. This was a hidden gem!
We also took the kids on the Draisine which is excellent fun. It is run on a disused part of the railway and takes you through the forest and across some bridges with lovely views to the many lakes.
A couple of local towns we also visited were Templin and Himmelpfort (with Santa’s House). These were lovely and the def worth a visit. We rode to both of them but you can also drive. The kids were very excited by seeing where Santa lived!
One night we went on a raft trip with a live band performing folk music on it. This was great… the raft basically travels for a couple of hours around the lake at night and holds about 40 Guests, so a really jovial atmosphere was created once the band got going.
So, as you can read, we had a wonderful time! We've told all our friends about staying at Lychen House and will definitely be coming back!
