It pretty much does at it says on the tin. It's in a quite location about 3 miles from Lochgilphead. Room was certainly good and spacious though somewhat cold. Bathroom certainly wasn't modern, however was functional.

Probably not ideal for business travellers as mobile signal and wi-fi certainly limited throughout. Had to resort to the payphone to ring home.

Food in the evening was certainly good and tasty, however the service at breakfast was a little sour. Almost seemed like it was too much bother.

It's OK...just needs modernisation...

I grew fond of the Cairnbaan Hotel eighteen months ago when we stayed for a couple of nights while moving house. We found the room well maintained, clean and cosy, the meals were excellent and the staff helpful.

So, the other week, we decide to go for lunch. W now live an hour and a half’s drive from the Hotel, but hoped it would be worth the trip.

We were not disappointed. The highlight of my meal was the smoked haddock. It came on a bed of spinach mash surrounded by cheesy milk. The haddock itself was delicious, as was the mash, but the best part was the cheese, floating on the surrounding milk. It was well done, and would have been crispy had it not been in the milk. Impossible to describe the taste, but it was marvellous.

Well worth the trip.

We recently spent just one night here with our daughter nod son in law. We didn't have an evening meal as we were attending a family party elsewhere. We were delighted with our stay. The breakfast was the best we have ever had in a hotel and having the lounge to relax in which felt more like someone's rather grand house than a hotel lounge was lovely. If we have a slight moan it was the lighting in the room was very dim and the shaving light didn't work. This was our first stay here and we definitely will be back

Room Tip: As we only used one room we couldn't advise on this

Lovely, friendly receptionist on arrival (Aileen) who showed us to our first floor room overlooking the Crinan canal. Room was very pleasant, comfortable, large, with a large bathroom with a bath. Dinner in the restaurant was very good where again we were served by Aileen (who must be a big plus for the hotel). A very good breakfast the next morning set us off again, despite the heavy rain, to explore the canal which is well worth visiting to the end where it joins the sea loch.

The Cairnbaan is located in one of the most idyllic areas of the west coast with little competition in the area. Food in the restaurant is very good, particularly the sea food and served by friendly, smiling staff. The accommodation side of the hotel in our experience reflects a different standard however. Although some effort has been made to provide modern furnishings, bed linens and facilities, the beds themselves leave a lot to be desired and in one of the rooms we occupied on the first floor the springs were very evident, resulting in a very uncomfortable night. The guest sitting room was comfortable and warm. The carpets in the dining room in particular are very much in need of renewing. A pity that standards in such an iconic hotel have been allowed to slip, although as said earlier the food is very good.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the canal on the first floor have good views but inspect mattress

We recently stayed here taking advantage of their offer of £62 pp DBB fot two persons sharing.
There were 3 in our party and the third person was charged £95 DBB for a single room,no reduction forthcoming. Both rooms were quite small and badly lit,the double's bathroom shaverlight over the mirror did not work although reported at once was not repaired, leaving my wife no mirror for her use, also the extractor cover and ceiling light were caked in dust or festooned with cobwebs. The single didn't have a towel rail. Overall the Hotel was in a shabby state of repair and décor.

The food was good but spoilt by serving huge portions which resulted in most of the main courses being returned uneaten.

The one saving grace was the Girls who were very attentive and friendly at all times.

On the basis of our experience we would not recommend this Hotel.
