There is a large free car park just off the main road into Kilmartin, there is no fee to visit the attraction either.
The castle is a 0.5km walk up a path from the car park. The castle itself is not huge, but it is well worth the climb up the winding stairs to the top just for the wonderful views. Most certainly a place to visit on a dry clear day to appreciate the beautiful scenery and the outstanding views. Be aware that there are no hand rails of any sort to assist with ascent and descent of both the sets of stairs, however, one set of stairs are considerably wider than the other, and have been repaired so are quite flat and safe. Just watch your footing as it is also quite dark in places.

What an amazing experience! We spent the morning at Kilmartin Glen, hiking around the standing stones and cairns, then came to Carnasserie Castle. It was a steep but short walk up to the castle from the parking lot. It was definitely worth the breathless climb, though - the castle itself was amazing. There are stairs inside that will take you all the way to the top of the castle, where you have a stunning view of the surrounding countryside. This is a MUST DO if you are in the area.

This castle is set a little bit off the road but signed well. It is located north of Kilmartin. Parking is ample and there is no fee to explore the ruins. The cairns of Kilmartin can be seen from the top walls of the castle. The stairs are small and you should wear good shoes. There is no rope to add support as you climb or descend, so be careful! Well worth the stop.

This castle hasn't been restored but has had the two sets of stairs repaired which allows access to all the remaining rooms and the keep. It is interesting as it spans the period when "castles" more moving from a defendable fort architecture to more a luxery residence with a defense element, unfortunately this back fired as the castle was sacked and burnt leaving what you see now. Well worth the visit.
