“Beautiful location, great service.”

Very enjoyable stay overall. The area is beautiful with lots of historic things to see, and the accommodation was excellent.

“Charming wooden chalet with great views and location, clean and cosy.”
Reviewed 19 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

We enjoyed our stay here even though the weather was bad. The open plan chalet was cosy and clean and has a great library of information for bird watchers and history folklore buffs like us.

“Lovely, peaceful getaway - if you are into the Neolithic, go here!”
Reviewed 20 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We stayed three nights a few weeks ago, and now regret not having booked for longer. It has everything one needs, and near the town hotel/restaurant for those days you don't want to cook. Cafe at the nearby museum has lovely cakes & internet access (there is none at the Chalet, and cell phone is iffy). Numerous walks to be had to see the various neolithic sites, lovely (understatement!) garden at the Chalet to sit in if you don't feel like walking. The beds were comfy, with a few out of a large window facing a hillside to wake up to in the morning. We saw numerous birds, and one evening saw bats flying. (Binoculars provided by host! Thanks!) Still wondering what the little animals in the garden were - we only caught sight of their backsides disappearing. They looked like large brown hamsters and walked that way, as well! They (it could have been the same one twice) are a mystery....

So, if you need to just wind down and disconnect, this is the place for you. No TV, no internet, no phone. There is a ton of tourist info, books, and guides in the Chalet itself for you to go through. You can get BBC4 Radio in the evening with their various dramas and shows, read one of the books, make yourself a cup of tea and snack, and just kick back for a while and forget the "outside" world exists. You will wake to the sound of the occasional sheep or cow....

Really, this place is excellent. If you need more to do one day, you can go back to the Garden and Castle/ play tourist in the kitschy little shops in Inverary. (Check out Brambles Bistro for lunch - great food, $30 - $40 will fill up two people, with change back.) There's a food co-op in Lochgilphead, which is the last village of size you come through before Kilmartin where you can buy anything you might need for meals. Kilmartin's village store up around the corner for last-minute needs, open limited hours.

Recommend you Google Earth the location, so you will recognize it when you drive into town. Basically, it's a stone's throw from the hotel and the church (which has some amazing monuments) as you are coming into town on the Inverary road. Wicked right-hand turn, best to just go into the hotel parking lot to turn around to face it straight on.

Special Notes: No microwave, but a nicely stocked kitchen. Not suitable for people who cannot climb stairs, as the shower/toilet and kitchen are ground level, sleeping and living is up some steep stairs. Also, we managed to leave a computer connection out of our luggage, and Janet, the owner, is arranging to send it to us. That's remarkable in this day and age. We will DEFINITELY book there again, and recommend it to all our friends.

“A very cosy place to stay!!”
Reviewed 11 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We have been in the chalet for 5 days and had a really good time. Everything was clean and the well equiped kitchen was great to use. Every time, after a day out in beautifull Argyl it was like coming home again. The chalet was thát nice and cosy!
It was our first trip to Scotland and certainly won't be the last. Especially the coast and isles were spectacular.

“Peaceful, cosy and well placed.”
Reviewed 8 June 2015 for a stay in May 2015

A small comfortable property without the distractions of TV or WiFi where we read and enjoyed the local scenery, history and hospitality. It is well positioned in the village with easy access to the local attractions, cafes and restaurants.

“Well designed in a quiet and natural setting”
Reviewed 7 June 2015 for a stay in May 2015

we stayed at the chalet for four nights and had everything we needed. We liked the picture window and were warm and comfortable throughout our stay. The kitchen is cleverly designed with everything needed. The chalet is in the heart of Kilmartin and the Glen, so all the archaeology around is very easily reached.

“A cosy, comfortable retreat for a week.”
Reviewed 26 May 2015 for a stay in May 2015

Janet gave us a lovely welcome to our stay and at the chalet which was full of information about local walks, places of interest, wild life, archaeology etc.
The chalet was warm and had a lovely large window and each morning we where greeted to a display of goldfinches flying around outside whilst we ate our breakfast.
Well worth a visit to see the cairns, standing stones, the museum and the church in Kilmartin. There are nice places to eat at the Kilmartin Museum Cafe with their home made bread and soup and also Kilmartin Hotel and a variety places further away.
We particularly liked the walks at Knapdale Forest and the spectacular panoramic views of trail 3. Thank you both Janet and David for your hospitality and going that extra mile to make our stay complete.
