The Galley very kindly squeezed our party in at the last moment and although we had to wait for the food it wasn't their fault as a larger party had got in just ahead of us. Whilst we waited they kindly supplied us with bread twice, and when the food came it was certainly worth the wait. I had the chicken breast which was cooked to perfection and served with delicious vegetables which were equally well cooked, making this one of the best main courses I've ever had. Everyone else in our party thoroughly enjoyed their various dishes, and the service was warm and helpful. The atmosphere in the bar was most convivial and as this was the last night of our trip it put the final touch to a very happy five days.

We went twice to the Galley at Lorne, once for lunch and then for dinner (as Lord of the Isles were not serving food that evening. At lunchtime, we wanted just a light meal which meant that we couldn't sit in the restaurant (which is bright and has lovely views) although it was completely empty, and had to sit in the bar instead which is dark, dingy and the tables/ floors a bit sticky, or outside. So this was a bit disappointing. We went in the evening to the restaurant, having been told that they were very busy and there were no window tables. There were hardly any tables occupied while we were there (and we were there for a good couple of hours) so this was surprising, but it was pleasant enough and the service good. The food was OK, but not special. The pigeon was very strong and a little dry, and the sea bass and pea risotto was almost entirely risotto with two very tiny pieces of seabass. Other meals, fish and chips etc. were all perfectly acceptable, but nothing particularly special.

Booked a table for two for a Saturday evening meal when stopping overnight in Ardfern in July 2014. The food was excellent and the staff were very friendly and attentive. Definitely worth a visit.

I had the absolute pleasure of dining at the Galley this summer, where I had by MILES the best sea bass I have ever had followed by the best lemon tart and raspberry sorbet. I live 2 hours away but would travel there again just for the food.
