“A must if only for lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2012

We often make a pit stop here for lunch .Excellent food, freshly made pasta and wonderful desserts. Wine list is also very good and prices not prohibitive.
The hotel is decorated in the old Tyrolean style and has a wonderful ambience.
The outside seating does face the road but its not a problem to sit inside either.
Staff have always been friendly. We have not stayed in the hotel yet but its on the list for sure.

“Authentic South Tyrolian food in unique setting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 November 2011

We have been to the restaurant already several times. It is located in an authentic Tyrolean hereditary farm (so-called Erbhof) and offers several dining rooms with traditional Tyrolean furniture and accessories - a very cosy and inviting atmosphere. The food is very good, a nice and inventive fusion of Tyrolean dishes with Italian nuances. There are several very tasty dishes for kids (no fries or pizza only like at other touristy places), so that we can recommend the Hanswirt also for family dinners. The price level is quite high, yet compared to restaurants in downtown Merano (10 minutes by car) the Hanswirt is still affordable. We will be back next year to enjoy again!

“Merano at your doorstep”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 July 2011

Excellent comfort, location, service, food. Pricey (from 80 Euro per person), but well worth it. Quiet rooms are large, balcony onto beautiful garden with view of the moutains, beds super, bathrooms large with all amenities, including pool towels, slippers, robes. the whole property is furnished in style, with many antiques and original art work (among them drawings of Paul Flora.) Free WiFi. Extensive wellness center with sauna, whirlpool, steam bath, solarium, massage, cosmetic treatments, and more. Restaurant has excellent food and wine (expensive), breakfast buffet is a smorgasbord. Parking in secured area, or garage.Almost in front of hotel is the station for the bus to Merano, where it is impossible to find parking. Location adjoining to famous Railroad Museum, and close to Typewriter
Museum.

“Fantastic Food and Service Near Merano”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2011

We ate at the Restaurant Hanswirt twice during our recent family holidays in South Tyrol (Alto Adige); once with our 3 children, and I came back a second time with my wife, a week later.

The restaurant is located about 10 minutes outside of Merano and should really be counted as a Merano restaurant. It is located on the main road from Merano to Switzerland, and has plenty of parking. Both times we ate on the outside terrace, which is well shielded from the Sun and rain.

One is promptly welcomed by impeccably dressed staff and the fact that we came with 3 children and one large dog was not an issue.

The menu selection is quite extensive. A full page of current specials is followed by 5 pages of assorted appetizers, pastas, fish and meat. Though most dishes are Italian/Austrian in inspiration, there are quite a few interesting choices such as the scampi in a Tempura batter served with spicy wok vegetables. The Vitello Tonno is also excellent. Appetizers run around 10-15 Euros, main courses 25-30 Euros, and desserts 10-15 Euros. Portions are quite generous.

Both times, service was prompt and faultless. Yet, it was never stuffy. We will definitely go back to the Restaurant Hanswirt on our future visits to Merano.

BTW: adjoining the restaurant is the Eisenbahnwelt, which has a really fascinating setup of miniature trains on 2 floors; on one floor is a mix of all types of miniature trains while on the second floor is a miniature (yet over 50m long) scale replica of Southern Tyrol with miniature trains, cable cars, ... This is a great exhibit to visit after eating at the Restaurant Hanswirt and both children and adults in our family loved it.
