First of all I have to say our trip didn't start great in Phu Quoc. We thought we'd arrive in Phu Quoc early to look around so we didn't make reservation. But the ferry we took from Ha Tien to Phu Quoc was almost 5 hours late (later I learned it happens quite regularly). This late at night the only option we had was to follow other foreigners. We all jumped into a mini van. The driver stopped at every hotel and told us to get out to see if we like it. We didn't want any of them because they were expensive ($50-80 USD) and far away from the downtown area. We were tired and frustrated. After seeing 6 or 7 of them, we finally gave up looking. We picked a clean/basic room at Nhat Lan and bargained with two men from $40/night down to $35 USD for four nights. The next day we found out from a lady receptionist (also the only person there who has no trouble communicating in English) that $35 is actually the regular high season rate (usually $15-20 during low seasons). Not the best first impession. We didn't pick a bungalow, rather a room with a/c on the second floor of the main building. The room was basic but comfortable enough.
