Our stay at Sea Star feels slightly underwhelming, but that's only because it felt like the weak link in our stay at Phu Quoc, and I'm probably being nitpicky.

At Phu Quoc, the beaches were gorgeous, our bike trekking across to Sao Beach and Ham Ninh waterfall was great fun, and we could barely fault the food we ate. Our accommodation in comparison just felt a bit basic and simple.

There is definitely a eco-friendly influence that we noticed throughout our stay, but it came across as feeling cheap and lacklustre when we were introduced to our room (we stayed in a Sea View Bungalow; the second row of huts from the beach). I almost would have enjoyed it more if they went for the completely minimal, pretend-you're-sleeping-in-an-actual-hut decor.

However, the room was functional enough - the bathroom was clean, the mosquito net around the bed was comforting (even if we didn't use it) and we slept quite well (we're used to hard mattresses).

When the sun is out the grounds of the resort does feel luxurious and comforting, however the space in Sea Star's section of beach didn't make us want to relax and spend time & money in front of the resort. When we wanted to spend an afternoon relaxing with cocktails on lounge chairs, we ended up walking 5-600m down the beach to find something that felt more inviting.

Service-wise; we didn't speak to anyone apart from those at reception when we were hiring a bike (200k for a day, by the way) and the staff at breakfast. The resort was extremely empty when we stayed, so we saw several staff members hanging around with very little to do. Of course, the wet season isn't going to attract a deluge of visitors.

Would I stay here again for our next (eventual) trip to Phu Quoc? Maybe. It's close enough to the main strip to be convenient, but removed enough to be peaceful. Great place to stay if you're taking a family; if you're keen for the night markets and a late night at the bar during the evening, maybe pick something further north up the beach.

We had a wonderful 4 nights stay: perfect location, friendly and helpful staff, clean and very nice beach! Staff make this experience unbelievable, from beach cleaning, to chefs and room keeping. Quiet, relaxing and an absolute relax, whilst still within close distance to Night Markets and beautiful fresh seafood. Romantic. Bungalows have a beautiful view of the beach and the sunset! Very good value for money.

And a few more. Teh place is a gem, and not to be taken for granted, because a place like this is hard to find. The resort is well maintained, the beach is spotless and held clean. The bungalows are basic, but spacios and clean. Breakfast was nice with both viatnamese and international influences. Nice restaturant for lunch or dinner, but beware that the restaurant closes at nine pm.
Minimarket outside the resort. 20 minutes walk to Dong Duong (restaurants by the road), (and lots of nice places soutwards if you walk the beach).

Airport transfer was provided be the resort- excellent service! We also rented motorbikes in the recpetions, and used the hotels laundry service - all worked perfect.

We stayed in a beachbungalow, and enjoyed every minute of our stay!

Room Tip: Beach bungalow, no doubt!!!

We recently stayed at Sea Star for 6 nights. The bungalows were lovely and many were very close to the beach. As we had younger children, we loved that the water was calm and crystal clear. The beach itself was stunning!!! There were only two negatives that we could come up with:
1. There needs to be MUSIC in the restaurant - people would hang there longer if there was (the food is amazing!!!!)
2. A few fans around the restaurant to circulate the air on those hot humid days.

Apart from that, it was a fantastic stay with helpful and friendly staff, great room and a spectacular location.

We stayed in a Beach Bungalow which was right on the sand. It was small but comfortable for what we paid which was AUD$85 per night incl bfast. The room had a double bed with mosquito net, bathroom, aircon, fridge etc so had the necessities. The bed was quite hard but for what we paid, we didn't mind. The breakfast was ok, dinners was also ok. The beach at the resort was great and there were people constantly raking it and keeping it clean. There was also massage ladies selling massages etc for $5 for 45 minutes. I had a massage and it was great. The water was clear and free of rubbish and was very inviting. We went swimming daily and there were no sea lice or anything. There are great restaurants only a short walk on the beach and also a few shops selling wine and other necessities in the laneway of the hotel. There are a lot of little dogs on the resort, so if you don't like dogs, don't stay there. However, we found them very friendly, cute and playful so we didn't mind them at all. In fact, we loved their company.

Room Tip: The Bungalows right on the Beach have the best view of the ocean and are only a few metres from a cool swim.
