This hotel needs upgrading - no aircon. and the fans didn't cut it - so hot it was impossible to sleep or even be in the room. The bathroom was pretty basic - sink tap kept twisting every time it was turned on, the shower had the be left running for 4 minutes to get hot water and if you missed the tiles to stand on when under the shower you had to stand on hard pebbles. The be linen was so skimpy it would tuck under the mattress and kept finding myself lying a bare mattress - yuk!!

The breakfast was pretty ordinary - the containers that kept the food warm were empty or only had little bits left half the time, the toast was cold, and if you ordered eggs the fellow was grumpy at interrupting him on facebook.

The restaurant on the beach could have been very nice and such a lovely setting - the service was terribly slow and one night the egg man from breakfast was there and got our orders totally mixed up and even left some of it off. If they want to make a success of such a good spot they need to lift their act.

Would not go back there and in fact think Phu Quoc will change so much in the years to come I wouldn't go back to the island - there will be too many resorts - I pity the poor local people.

After 5 weeks in huge cities, I decided to go to a quiet, lonely place for a couple of days to relax… and I landed here. Well, the room itself is not terrible it is just ways too expensive for what it is. The bungalows are charmless and cheaply built. When you go to the breakfast buffet you'll find half of the food trays empty and the other half covered by flies. The toast is not fresh.

The worst is their beach restaurant, though. You'll pay about twice as much as in the restaurants around and the service is just horrible. I once ordered a soup in the afternoon, there was hardly anybody else around and the waiter managed to forget my order. Of course, there was no courtesy for that obvious mistake.

I wouldn't go there. But actually, the whole island is crap. Just tourists (mostly Germans and Australians which says almost everything) and prices around 5x higher than on mainland Vietnam.

We spent two nights at thanh kiew. When we arrived we were greeted by the friendliest man. He paid for our taxi from the airport. The gardens were well kept. But thats where the good basically stopped. The ocean view bungalow had a view of mostly the restaurant roof and the rest was obscured by trees and bushes. The rooms are exactly as the pictures. No A/C or television as we expected but also no where to store clothes. The bed was like sleeping on concrete and pillows were well past there use by date. There is no tea/coffee facilities in the room, so if your after a cuppa you have to pay. No complimentary water either. Even after the room was cleaned it still didn't feel clean. The bungalows are in need of a bit of a spruce up inside and a paint job. With a bit of effort this place could be good. We are sure there are much better places to stay on Phu Quoc. We feel in comparison to other places we have stayed this would have to be the most disappointing. Overpriced for amenities. I would not recommend staying here.

What I like most about this resort is the food - delicious, but a little bit overpriced. You should try their grilled fish or prawn - my favorite dishes there.

Lack of air-con in the room but there is a mosquito net, so it's fine.

The beach is beautiful, couldn't ask for more.

We were there in November, 2012. If you like to have a lovely cure rest away from your everyday rush...pick this. Just the necessary things (simple cute house with bed, cabinet, locker, bathroom) but clean and gives the hidden charm right on the white beach. Gives the simple nature feeling with delicious breakfast (vietnamese coffee, fruits, eggs, pancake etc). Beautiful garden around the house and perfect beach which is wide enough to have space and shadow.
The road is challenging to the hotel by the way!
We were satisfied. Would stay there again.

Room Tip: Beach front is beautiful but garden rooms are as close to the beach as other rooms:)

The Thanh Kieu is a fine little place and you can't say anything bad about the beach and swimming (I defy you to). Lack of aircon in room meant there was a fan which is fine, but also a mosquito net. Haven't had one since I used to live in West Africa decades ago. Same old problems though - don't tuck it in absolutely everywhere and one of the little horrors will get in sooner or later. Loved the great big safe. Maybe it was the time (last week or so, early Feb 2014) but everywhere on Phu Quoc seemed to close down around 9:30 and we never found the TK restaurant/bar open in the evening (not a problem, lots of places nearby). Staff pleasant and not too in-your-face (which I don't like). Maybe some people like more input from staff (see other reviews). Takes all sorts. Would definitely recommend this place, but get to Phu Quoc in the next two years if you're coming - it's getting developed fast. Dai Beach is being built up and probably will go private soon; other areas similar. Could be Phu Ket by 2020 (of course you may like that).

Room Tip: Were well back from beach but still perfectly alright. They're all good.

The beach is beautiful, the sand white, the water clean and cool and inviting.
The Coco Beach location on Phu Quoc's western coast is ideal. It's just that the resort itself seems to be sleep walking. Staff were unusually taciturn for Vietnamese, who everywhere else couldn't do enough for us. There's a slightly rundown feel about the place. That said, the buffet breakfast was better than adequate, and the cabin with a view of the beach was of a good size, simple, with an excellent open bathroom, no AC, but a reassuring mosquito net over the bed. The cabin came with a terrific triple-lock clunker of a safe that belonged in a museum, but which could probably withstand a bazooka shell. The resort sits in the best part of the beach, beside some far more expensive resorts with excellent restaurants.
All in all, however, the resort was probably very good value.
Phu Quoc itself is going through a revolution. More and more foreign airlines are coming into its new international airport. If you're planning a visit, do it soon, before the place becomes Vietnam's Phuket.
A cheap motor scooter is an ideal way to explore the further reaches of the island, but only if you are already a skilled rider. While traffic is nothing compared to Hanoi or Saigon, the roads themselves are mostly rough, largely unmapped and challenging to say the least.

Room Tip: Cabins nearest the beach gain a little of the sea breeze, which - since there was no AC in our room...
