“Lovely Grounds”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 May 2014

We arrived in Early March and founds the grounds and beach to be lovely. The bathroom was also fun as it was open to the stars. We founds the garden in the hotel to be lovely and very peaceful with only sounds of frogs at night and birds in the day. The hotel was close to the beach and also a short walk to the main town along the road.

Pros: Small shop nearby, lovely grounds, beach, close to town and nice beach restaurants, peaceful

Cons: There was a leak from the bathroom roof meaning we could hear dripping all night, breakfast.

All in all a very relaxing break.

Room Tip: There is a small shop just up the enterance selling cold beers.

This hotel was not our best choice. Staff was not welcoming and lack of friendliness.
Rooms were correct (no air conditioning, no tv) but were not really cleaned during our stay.
Food in the restaurant is not to be recommended.
The only good point of this hotel is its beach. You have a direct access from the hotel where all necessary was provided.

The bathrooms, gardens and the beach were probably the best things about this resort. We stayed in April which is the hottest time of the year on Phu Quoc and we nearly died of heat in the room as the one pathetic ceiling fan was next to useless. Luckily we could sleep with the doors open as we were at the end of a row with no way through to anywhere else (although the gardeners, who had no concept of privacy, were forever outside our room watering the garden!). There were no cupboards in the rooms which meant we had to put our clothes on chairs and on the coat rack (why on earth you need a coat rack I can't imagine - but it did come in useful as a hanging place!). Most of the staff can barely speak English (Richard was the only one who was fluent) so its not easy to communicate with them if you have a problem and Richard isn't around. The breakfast was nice for the first few days but after 6 days we were pretty bored of it as it didn't change much.

The restaurant is absolutely soulless and the food was very average tasting but highly priced - the service wasn't up to much either. Phu Quoc is generally an expensive place and we found that it was full of German and Russian tourists - don't know if that's why its so expensive! Phu Quoc is worth visiting if you hire a motorbike and tour the island by yourself (tour operators are a rip off too!) but I wouldn't stay at Thanh Kieu as its overpriced for what it is.

Room Tip: Beach front rooms get some breeze but not much privacy as people walk past them. Rooms 6, 7 and 8 a...

This was one of the worst places we stayed in Vietnam. Phu Quoc is very hot in April but there was no air con, only a slow, one speed fan in the centre of the ceiling offering very little comfort at night. Worst still was the design of the bungalow, which has no window at the back and is open to the mosquitoes which are prevalent on the island. A mosquito net was provided but it was a single bed size for our double bed and hardly covered us- and it was full of holes. Result- many bites for both of us during the night. Another problem was the wifi which I could not access from our bungalow. When I complained there was no apology, I was informed someone would be along to fix it. After several further enquiries during the next few hours, we were told someone would come next day. We told them not to bother we were leaving. On a more positive note, the breakfast was excellent, the grounds were well kept and the location was good.

This hotel needs upgrading - no aircon. and the fans didn't cut it - so hot it was impossible to sleep or even be in the room. The bathroom was pretty basic - sink tap kept twisting every time it was turned on, the shower had the be left running for 4 minutes to get hot water and if you missed the tiles to stand on when under the shower you had to stand on hard pebbles. The be linen was so skimpy it would tuck under the mattress and kept finding myself lying a bare mattress - yuk!!

The breakfast was pretty ordinary - the containers that kept the food warm were empty or only had little bits left half the time, the toast was cold, and if you ordered eggs the fellow was grumpy at interrupting him on facebook.

The restaurant on the beach could have been very nice and such a lovely setting - the service was terribly slow and one night the egg man from breakfast was there and got our orders totally mixed up and even left some of it off. If they want to make a success of such a good spot they need to lift their act.

Would not go back there and in fact think Phu Quoc will change so much in the years to come I wouldn't go back to the island - there will be too many resorts - I pity the poor local people.

After 5 weeks in huge cities, I decided to go to a quiet, lonely place for a couple of days to relax… and I landed here. Well, the room itself is not terrible it is just ways too expensive for what it is. The bungalows are charmless and cheaply built. When you go to the breakfast buffet you'll find half of the food trays empty and the other half covered by flies. The toast is not fresh.

The worst is their beach restaurant, though. You'll pay about twice as much as in the restaurants around and the service is just horrible. I once ordered a soup in the afternoon, there was hardly anybody else around and the waiter managed to forget my order. Of course, there was no courtesy for that obvious mistake.

I wouldn't go there. But actually, the whole island is crap. Just tourists (mostly Germans and Australians which says almost everything) and prices around 5x higher than on mainland Vietnam.

We spent two nights at thanh kiew. When we arrived we were greeted by the friendliest man. He paid for our taxi from the airport. The gardens were well kept. But thats where the good basically stopped. The ocean view bungalow had a view of mostly the restaurant roof and the rest was obscured by trees and bushes. The rooms are exactly as the pictures. No A/C or television as we expected but also no where to store clothes. The bed was like sleeping on concrete and pillows were well past there use by date. There is no tea/coffee facilities in the room, so if your after a cuppa you have to pay. No complimentary water either. Even after the room was cleaned it still didn't feel clean. The bungalows are in need of a bit of a spruce up inside and a paint job. With a bit of effort this place could be good. We are sure there are much better places to stay on Phu Quoc. We feel in comparison to other places we have stayed this would have to be the most disappointing. Overpriced for amenities. I would not recommend staying here.
