This is not the Sandy Lane, nor is it the price!
The most fabulous beach, wonderful staff, the rooms are more than adequate and clean, very enjoyable food, even the cocktails are on the all inclusive!
A very enjoyable stay, if you want more, spend alot more!!

Room Tip: Upgrade! Get at least a standard room or better.

We have been to Antigua a few times but normally travel in a group and rent a villa in jolly harbour, this year it was just the two of us so we decided to book a hotel, we know this hotel and new what to expect the hotel is a bit dated but it's very clean the food is good, plentiful the fish,Italian and Indian restaraunts are very good and the staff are great,at the price we paid we didn't feel the need to spend every second in resort, if you want to explore Antigua you won't mind leaving the hotel. We used the money we saved from booking the jolly beach to charter a yacht and spend 3 days in Barbuda well worth the trip. If you want a luxury prison camp this is not for you, if you want a reasonable hotel and want to get out and explore Antigua and don't mind missing some all inclusive meals this hotel is good value.

We just returned from Jolly Beach for the first time. We had a great time and were very happy with everything. We had a standard room which was small and the air conditioner was broken. The front desk upgraded us to a suite right away which was very nice. The food was great, the lobster (25$) extra was fabulous and the bar staff were friendly and accommodating. We went deep sea fishing and returned with a mahi mahi and the chef cooked it right up for us on the grill. overall we would highly recommend this hotel to anyone and we were very happy with our stay!

Room Tip: If you can, upgrade to the suite as it is much nicer and updated.

What a pleasure to hear from first time guests. All of us here at the resort love to hear that you had a great time and were so happy with your stay!

Glad you enjoyed the food - especially your fresh-caught mahi mahi that our chef was able to grill up for you. And while I do apologize for the issue you had with your air conditioner, we appreciate you giving us the opportunity to make that right for you.

We hope to see you again soon!

Thanks,

After reading several bad reviews we were somewhat nervous about what we were going to! But it was all in vain. From the minute we arrived we loved every minute. Yes the rooms are pretty basic, but this is a 3 star resort. If you want better rooms book a higher starred resort! The room are clean, comfortable and perfectly adequate!
As a non meat eater I worried there may not be much choice. But as a fish lover I thoroughly enjoyed trying a whole array of very tasty fish I've never even heard of. If you are happy to try new things you will not be disappointed.
Entertainment was great and the team had a great way of encouraging you to join in without being pushy. Sendy-Anne was my particular favourite!
All of the staff are so friendly and happy to help.
We treated ourselves to a massage in the spa. I've had many before, but this was one of the best!
I am already saving to go back to Jolly Beach and I only got home this morning lol!

Hi Sharon,

Thanks so much for taking the time to let us know that you loved every minute of your vacation at Jolly Beach!

I’m so pleased to hear that you enjoyed the variety of food in our restaurants and that you were able to discover new, tasty dishes, too! Our entertainment team, as well as the rest of the staff, will also love to hear your comments.

Just returned from 13 nights at Jolly Beach. To be honest the rooms and resort are a bit tired, which is why I only gave it a 4, however, it is so clean it really does not matter too much. The view from most rooms is unbeatable. The resorts own pictures are as it is, not misleading at all. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. Sometimes it seemed food choice was limited, but then I am a bit fussy. There are 3 restaurants on site you can book as well as the usual dining area. All are good and included in the all inclusive package. (some choices at a supplement such as lobster and steak).
If you want to do a day trip, I highly recommend the Wadadli round island trip. the crew really look after you and make it a special memory. It was my daughters first time snorkelling and they made sure any new to it were safe and comfortable about it. Been before and would go again. I recommend for all ages.

Room Tip: The rooms to left of reception if looking towards the beach are older so need updating. However the...

Hi Glen,

It’s disappointing to hear that you didn’t enjoy your stay with us.

Yes, there are birds near the restaurant. Avian wildlife is protected under the Wild Birds Protection Act, and it’s illegal to wilfully kill or wound them, as well as to remove, injure, or destroy nests or eggs, so we do our best to exist in harmony with the local wildlife while also making guests as comfortable as possible. We do offer indoor screened dining and also play a “bird scare” program in an effort to minimize their presence.

We hear from many of our guests that they especially love Neil, so I’m very sorry to hear that you don’t agree.

Jolly Beach is a 3 star resort, and our entertainment crew goes to great lengths to keep our guests active and entertained. As we offer one of the lowest price points in Antigua, we’re very proud to be able to offer this incredible value to our guests, as well as the choice of 5 different restaurants that range in style from beach fare and seafood to Italian and Indian.

Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. I wish you all the best in your future travels.

Thanks.

This review is long overdue. I stayed at Jolly Beach Resort (JBR) when I visited the island of Antigua with my daughter in July of 2013. The hotel is on a great location near the Jolly Harbour, set on a fantastic stretch of white sandy beach with turquoise waters and breathtaking vistas of the Five Islands Harbour. Although JBR is a bit dated and doesn't have luxury features like many resorts, for example, in Mexico, it is quaint, intimate, charming and has a heart and soul that will make you fall in love with it. The staff are very friendly, attentive and go the extra mile to make sure you enjoy your stay; they make you feel very welcome. The island of Antigua is beautiful, with lovely coastline and friendly people, and is very safe to explore on your own.

Transfer to the hotel was only about 15 minutes, and check-in was smooth and quick. The rooms are pretty basic and small with dated furniture and small bathrooms with shower only (no bathtub), but are clean and room service is excellent. There is no smoking in rooms (not even on balconies), and there are no mini fridges. Therefore, be sure to bring in your water bottle with you when you go out for dinner and ask the servers to fill it up with fresh icy water so you can take it to your room in case you get thirsty overnight. The air-conditioning makes the rooms cool and your water will be pleasant to drink overnight. I think that superior rooms do have mini fridges; however, those are not restocked; at least, that’s how it was when we were there…. hence, there isn't a big difference in room quality between superior and standard rooms. All rooms at JBR have ocean views. Free Wi-Fi is provided for guest near the main reception and in the courtyard, and you may be able to get a connection at the beach bar and on the beach from the Cocos Hotel nearby.

The food is very good at JBR and buffet option is provided at two restaurants (Hemispheres & Utsav) for breakfast (one of them has continental breakfast only - Utsav). Lunch options include buffet style at the Hemispheres, and/or barbecue at the Coconut Grill located near the main pool/beach. I must say that Jerk Chicken is pretty awesome at the Coconut Grill! All restaurants are a la carte at dinner time and we tried them all: the Hemispheres – international cuisine, Lydia’s – an awesome Caribbean/seafood restaurant on the beach (lovely setting), Utsav has excellent Indian food, and Bocciolo which features classic Italian cuisine. Compliments to all the chefs! Food was excellent at JBR.

The beach is a little piece of paradise and absolutely beautiful, set between the hills overlooking the Five Islands Harbour with fine white sand and calm turquoise waters prefect for water-sports such as swimming, sailing and kayak; however, not very good for snorkelling (the water is not perfectly clear and has a milky hue). Vendors on the beach have their stands and sell snorkelling excursions, jet skis, conch shells, souvenirs, t-shirts, etc. They are very friendly and fun to chat with. The beach is fairly long for those who love to walk, and was quiet in the off season time. We often felt we have the beach to ourselves, which made our holiday extra relaxing. There are two pools at JBR one is the entertainment pool with swim-up bar and the other one is quiet pool. They were both very clean; however, we are not pool people so we didn't use them much.

The hotel has a nice gift shop but if you are looking to by sunscreen, snacks or cigarettes you better go to a nearby supermarket in Jolly Harbour. It is fairly well stocked and everything is much cheaper. Entertainment in the evening was great, not over the top and very tasteful, especially the beach party and taste of Antigua’s famous carnival. There was live music at the beach bar on a few evenings.

Antigua is safe to explore on your own. We went to St. John’s, the capital of Antigua, using local buses. The islanders are very friendly and we felt safe exploring the town, local market, and attractions. They have excellent duty free shopping in the Redcliffe & Heritage Quay. Antigua’s famous English Harbour rum is superb and reasonably priced there. The best way to see the island is to do a circumnavigation around the island, which we did with Wadadli Cats. It was a fantastic day, and I highly recommend them.

Overall, we had a wonderful and relaxing vacation in Antigua and wonderful stay at the Jolly Beach Resort. We have nothing but good memories of this place. If you go with an open mind, manage your exaltations and are friendly and polite with staff, you will more than enjoy your stay at JBR and get to see the beautify island of Antigua for a reasonable cost. I would go back to JBR again with great pleasure and recommend it.

Room Tip: All rooms have ocean views.

You know what they say - better late than never!

Seriously, we so appreciate you taking the time to write a review of Jolly Beach Resort and are delighted to hear that you fell in love with our heart and soul (that fantastic stretch of white sandy beach, as you mentioned, also helps!)

Since providing our guests with excellent customer service is very important to us, it makes me very happy to hear that you felt everyone made you feel welcome here and went the extra mile to help you enjoy your stay.

As a 3 star resort, yes our rooms are a bit more basic, but as you said, they are clean and it’s great to hear you enjoyed the room service :)

We also love to hear that you enjoyed our food - and you’re certainly not alone in raving about the Jerk Chicken at the Coconut Grill! That’s a particular favourite of many of our guests.

Thanks again for sharing your experiences. I’m so glad that you had such a wonderful and relaxing vacation in Antigua with us and really hope to see you again soon!
