My husband, daughter and I spent 5 days and 4 nights at the Verandah from August 13th to the 17th.. I had read other reviews in which they would say how lazy and not nice the staff was. Totally wrong, the employees were hardworking, friendly and always had a smile. The place is very clean. We stayed in room 119, not to close to the main area. We were probably known as the shuttle family. They have golf carts that shuttle you from one area to another if needed. My husband had broken his toe prior to going and was in so much pain, poor thing could not stand for a long period of time so we used the shuttle at all times. I think I would recommend a room near the main pool area. The rooms were spacious and very clean. We had a king size bed and a sofa bed for our daughter. It had a mini fridge and also flatware, silver ware and dinnerware. The bathroom had a double sink and a walk in shower which was great. We used the main beach, plenty of chaise lounge chairs as well as towels and water sports available. The beach was shallow and no waves, my type of beach. Buffet food was good, Buccaneer restaurant food was great, but hard to get a reservation. You need to make reservations 24 hrs in advance. We tried since Thursday and did not get anything until Saturday.. the food was delicious. the restaurant was never full in the time we were 0800-0930pm. One day we decided to go into St. John's, the Verandah has a shuttle at $14.00 pp that will take you but they need a certain amount of persons. For $52.00 for the 3 of us you can have a private car, the driver waits for you and then takes you back to the Verandah, well worth the price. The drive to St. John's is 30 minutes. While in St. John's there are a lot of little shops and also known companies like Sunglass Hut and Burger king...You see the natives selling fruits and vegetables in the sidewalks. You can take a walk to Long Bay Beach which is located 2 minutes from the resort. A big THANK YOU to:
Janice- Tours- for making us feel at home and giving us the right recommendations..She was awesome...
Jonathan- our Santo Domingo shuttle driver who was a delight.
Barbara- Asst. Manager- Thank you for helping us when we couldn't figure out why we were getting locked out of our rooms...You were very patient....Thank you!
Lionel-attending manager- and Lori (guest services) for going out of their way to get my oranges....
One thing I did not care for were the tree frogs, oh my gosh, very noisy!
Thank you all for a lovely vacation!

Room Tip: If you don't like to walk, get a room near the main pool where all the action is...

Myself and my wife stayed at the Verandah for 9 nights at the beginning of August for the 2ng part of our honeymoon. Having been to Las Vegas for the first part, we were very much looking forward to chilling out in Antigua!

After reading about room tips we tried to book either room 165 or 166 but upon checking in we were allocated room 185. It was a waterfont view room which we had paid extra for. We weren't particularly pleased that our room request hadn't been allocated but were assured that room 185 is 1 of their most popular rooms. The room was very spacious, had a massive bed and huge balcony. Room 185 over looks the main beach, we thought it would be noisy as they have all the watersports there but to be honest we heard nothing from inside our room. The room had a safe, kettle, coffee maker, cutlery and plates (a bit strange as its all inclusive!). Whilst we were there we noticed that the room next to ours had no one staying in it and they were redecorating, which would be my only criticism of the room is that it needed a lick of paint and possibly some more modern furniture. Apart from that the rooms are generally of a good standard.

We spent much of our time during the days at the quiet rasta beach. It was very quiet and chilled out! They had just built the snack shack down there which is a great addition as before you'd have to leave the beach at lunch to go and get something from either the main beach of the seabreeze buffet. Vera was great at the rasta bar and we always had a chat with her every morning.

We both thought that the food at this hotel was great. At the seabreeze buffet no reservation is necessary and they alternate the buffet food on offer each night. 1 night was a French theme, the next was Mexican etc etc. All food was piping hot and very nice. We ate at buccaneers once, which requires a reservation. It was nice to order from a menu but to be honest I much preferred the buffet! We also ate once at Nicole's which is the fine dining restaurant at a sur charge of $30 per person. We were not that impressed to be honest, the food was nice but I didn't think the service was that great. Took ages to take our food/drink order and generally the evening seemed to take ages.

Our first impressions after a day or so was that the barmen, waiters and waitresses were quite rude/ignorant, but after you get to know them and make an effort to talk to them they all started to come across as really nice people. We especially liked Andre behind the bar who kept bringing us over drinks and by the end of the holiday had our drinks order memorised!

We booked through Virgin and the only trip we did through them was the trip to Shirley Heights. We didn't enjoy it. The virgin rep told us it would be $10 deposit and then the remainder of the money ($40) was to be given to the taxi driver on the day. When we got to the venue we walked up a slight hill to be told we needed to pay a further $8 each for tickets into Shirley Heights. Fortunately we had bought some extra money but no one told us about this extra charge. Once we were in, apart from the views Shirley Heights didn't interest us much. Steel band was ok, and the food looked good but as we were staying all inclusive we didn't want to buy food there! Other notable trips were a short walk to devils bridge and then another short walk to Long Bay beach, both worth getting out of the hotel for.

Overall it was a fab honeymoon, needs a few more tweaks to be truly 5 star luxury in my opinion, but it's on its way to becoming a true 5 star hotel.

Room Tip: Waterfont rooms are worth the extra money, we stayed in 185 which was lovely, but anything around ar...

We visited the Verandah for 2 weeks in July and I must say that we were very happy with our vacation choice. We liked the fact that this resort is fairly new being only 7 years old. This resort is the sister to the St-James Club in Antigua. We had the waterfront view which was nice near the pool area. I would recommend a room near the pool area as you are close to everything (restaurants, guest services, main pool, main bar, etc...) They do have live music playing at the main bar and it is loud but they stop playing at 11:00p.m. so that's was fine. The rooms are very spacious and very clean. We booked at the Buccaneer's quite a few nights and did not have a problem getting a reservation. The food is very good and a change from the buffet. The buffet food is good but definitely preferred the Buccaneer's. Did not eat a Nicole's restaurant (30$ extra charge per person). The beach grill was very good as well. They had everything ranging from hamburgers to fish to salads and pizza, wraps etc... A lot of variety. The drinks were very good as well. Drank margarita's shaken most of the time. They also have premium alcohol and a wide variety. The beaches are beautiful. You are in a bay so no waves and very calm. The watersports were a big hit for the kids and all well maintained. They also have another beach closer to the reception area called Rasta Beach but in the 2 weeks, we did not go there. The beach was not as nice and further away from our room and amenities. We ventured to Long Bay beach which is a 2 minute walk from the reception area and this was a beautiful beach as well and bigger. You have the Grand Pineapple Resort on this beach. ALL beaches are public in Antigua therefore you are allowed to go and they have 365 beaches on the island!!! For anyone looking for Wi-Fi, it works quite well at the reception area and a little slow at the main pool area. They also have an adult pool area, but being with kids, did not go there. Walked over to the famous Devil's Bridge. Worth a walk over to see. Did the catamaran excursion around the island with a stop at Green Island for snorkelling and lunch (110.00$u.s. per person). Rented a taxi for about 3 hours (20.00$u.s. per person) and we were 9 people and went around the island and stopped at Shirley Heights, Fig Tree Lane and Nelson's Dockyard. I would definitely recommend this resort to anyone thinking of going to Antigua. I would like to give a warm thank you to Myriam at reception, Felicia at the bar, Iran at the Grill, Nadyia at the Buccaneer's and the Seabreeze buffet as well as Tanya at the Buccaneer's, Jonathan driving us around and Chinoir at guest services. Most employees are very nice and always smiling (apart from a few of course) but these employees made our stay even more enjoyable and we truly appreciated their kindness and attentiveness. We hope to be back at this resort in the future. Thank you Verandah!!!!!

Spent 2 wonderful weeks at the Verandah resort. The rooms are spacious and very clean. Had a room with sea view which is breath taking. The food was good and there was plenty of choice and variegated. The beaches were well kept and clean and the sport equipment in very good condition. We enjoyed the mini golf very much, it was good fun. The weather was fantastic ; lovely temperature and always a nice breeze. The staff are friendly and always very helpful. They made you feel welcome and did everything to enhance you holiday. Trip to Shirley heights is a must! I would highly recommend this resort and would love to return.

We stayed with six other family members. Ages ranged from 64 to six and there were facilities for all of us.

The resort is well kept, safe and clean. The rooms are spacious with adequate furniture and comfortable beds.

The food is consistently good. Book for Buccaneers or the Beach Grill for waiter service. Do this early as they fill up fast. Nicholes is worth the extra for a treat. Don't bother to buy wine by the bottle.

Only negative comment is the limited menu at the Wadadli Snack Shack on Rasta Beach

Staff are all very attentive and courteous. Would recommend this resort for family holidays but not romantic breaks.

Me, wife and 2 teenage daughters (16&15) visited at the end of June. My wife is not a fan of all-inclusive resorts but she (we all did) enjoyed our stay at this resort. The staff and varied selections for meals are what made this mini escape vacation (5 days) memorable. From the moment we checked in till we left the staff was excellent and always there to help. Even when we were the only ones to show up for a movie at night. The water activities allowed us to do many different things during our stay. All in all we relaxed and forgot any worries or troubles we had when we arrived.

Room Tip: Try to get a room away from the main pool if you do not want to hear the noise from the pool area an...

Mom, daughter, son in law and grand daughter (11 years) - the holiday more than catered. Lovely cool, spacious, clean rooms. The setting was stunning. Food no complaints as there was so much choice. Entertainment was enjoyable without being over the top. I do think however that we came and went before its busiest time which suited us perfectly. I wouldn't say it was intimate however there was enough places to go to which catered for everyone. (2 Beaches, main pool, adults pool etc ). Staff lovely and accommodating. Shop on the resort very expensive however to be expected.
Two minor niggles for us - sun beds were plastic and uncomfortable (think these are not the standard represented by the rest of the hotel) - think wooden ones are needed. Also more furniture in the bar area.
All in all a wonderful holiday - we went horse-riding on Runaway Beach - well recommended,
