Robert's Cove is a gem on a warm summer's evening. It doesn't quite have the same attraction for me as when the walk up to the summit of the cliffs was closed off....it was a great way to start your meal by walking up there with the prospect of a good feed afterwards. The Inn itself has retained the kind of charm that has been long lost in many City center pubs. The proprieter may come across as stand-offish but he warms around and I have the deepest of respect for keeping the Robert's Cove Inn going all these years. The food is very simple bar food and I recommend sea food chowder followd by steak. If you stick to these two dishes there will be no dissapointment. Don't expect anything too fanciful however or you'll be dissapointed. People should consider that this restaurant is well off the beaten track and it can't be easy to cater when you don't know how many guests are expected - for that reason I can easily forgive the basic menu. Overall I still think it's a gem and in particular I bring "foreign" visitors to this restaurant so they can experience how pubs were in the past - including the tempermental owner!
