“Mixed feelings about this one”
Reviewed 12 August 2013

Stayed for 3 nights with my wife and 2 children. The stay was great in many ways, but there are a lot of "buts"!

Rooms were a good size with empty fridge for food, but the windows were quite small.
The food in the restaurant was excellent, but it was the exact same menu for three nights in a row, which made it quite tedious. Some of the meals didn't make the grade.
The waiting staff in the restaurant were lovely, but they seemed really tired - the same people were serving breakfast and dinner, so it was a really long day for them.
The grounds were lovely, but since it was a golf course, it was no good for walking or running on.
The pool was OK, but it got really crowded - there were 40 people in it (including and aqua aerobics class) at one stage!
There is a kids club, but to be honest it seemed like an excuse for one, with limited activities. It was really a golf hotel that wanted to tap into the family break market, the hotel needs to decide which one it is, or try better to succeed in both. There was a bouncy castle out the back but it was wet and dirty, and wasn't getting much use. The next day it wasn't even inflated.
There is High Tea for the kids, but our boys didn't really enjoy it, and I quote "The food wasn't nice and the lady in charge was really bossy", they didn't want to go back. In fairness, the food seemed very average, small crispy pizzas, also one of the starters was "Fresh Fruit Juice" but was in fact Squeez juice, from concentrate. When leaving the lads up there, the lady in charge seemed really stroppy and, well, didn't seem to like children. I know it's a tough gig, but try to act the part! Also hard to find (go in the golf shop entrance, it's up the stairs on the left, no signage).
The location is nice enough, but there is very little to do in Tullow, or around. A trip to Kilkenny city, a walk along the Barrow river, trips to Glendalough or Powerscourt are some possibilities.
I can't comment on the golf as I didn't partake, but that seemed to be pretty good.
Great gym there, and the spa treatment my wife got was very good.
Bar staff were enthusiastic, but most seemed to be very inexperienced.
That all said, it was good value for money, it's just that it seems that with a tiny bit more effort on the hotel's part it could have being fantastic, instead it falls somewhere between Average and Very Good, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt.

Room Tip: Get room facing golf course.

We spent the August bank holiday weekend (3 nights) in Mount Wolseley Hotel to celebrate two birthdays. We booked 3 rooms. One double room (for my parents) and two family rooms.

My brother and his wife were due to travel with us also but on the morning we were due to go my poor little niece came out in chicken pox and was unable to travel. My niece and her Mum had to stay at home and my nephew and his Dad came with us.

On check in the staff at reception were wonderful and (Elaine - who seemed to be at reception 24/7) made a big fuss of my 5 year old nephew (who was missing his sister and Mum)!

All of the rooms were great! Spacious and clean with big comfy beds! Plenty of bottled water and a fridge! Tv and DVD player. Dvds available to borrow from reception!
The swimming pool was lovely and I enjoyed a dip in the Jacuzzi! There was also a sauna and steam room which my husband used. We did not use the gym but it seemed to have lots of equipment. Golf was wonderful. The greens are pristine.

The first evening we ate in the bar. The food was lovely. The two younger children (5 and 6) went for 'High Tea' with the Kids Club and enjoyed their food as well as a visit for Wollie Bear to wish my nephew a Happy Birthday. (arranged by Elaine at reception)

Breakfast was lovely! Poached eggs and pancakes cooked to order. Yum!

Dinner on the two following evenings was in Fredrick's Restaurant. What a treat! Food was fabulous and the service was 5*. Roderick and his team are a credit to the hotel! The children ate with us on the second evening and had the delight of cake and candles and the staff singing 'Happy Birthday' accompanied by a pianist playing a baby grand piano!

We loved this hotel and are planning to make a trip back very soon (as soon as the chicken pox have gone)

Thanks to all in Mount Wolseley!

Room Tip: If playing golf hire a buggy! Great fun and reasonable.

Stayed in Mount wolsley in May 2013.We were at a wedding. paid € 130.00 for bed and breakfas, ( thing it was a deal for wedding guests).Hotel reception area is lovely and the check in staff very friendly. The golf course is a fine golf course and there is views from the hotel over this. The food was super and the service was excellent,no delay between courses at all.The following morning the breakfast was help yourself and we did. The breakfast was lovely and plenty of it.The only thing I would have to moan about would be the heat, the corridors and rooms are very warm, recommend asking for air conditioning room.Overall a super hotel all around, will be returning.

Room Tip: Ask for air conditioned room

Just back from a one night stay here. We arrived at 11.30 in the morning to be greeted by a very unpleasant receptionist. She had a face on her like she wished she was somewhere else! Not very good for first impressions. We headed for the spa where we had different treatments booked. The greeting we received here was lovely, very friendly and helpful. The spa experience was excellent. Lovely treatments, nice staff, tasty lunch and a relaxing afternoon. We got to our room around 5pm. The room was clean, nice and spacious. Maybe a little old fashioned and in need of a refurbishment. But the bed was very comfortable and room was very clean. We ate in fredricks restaurant. Very impressed with the food and the staff. Nice and friendly and very welcoming. Drinks in the bar after the dinner and the bar man was nice. Couldn't find a fault with the breakfast. Good selection of hot and cold food. Receptionist at check out is what we should have been greeted with on check in. Would definitely stay here again!

Breakfast was great and hot. We asked for eggs to be done in a certain way and again no problem. We were unable to take in the pool and spa for we were moving on.
