This is THE place to stay if you're considering going to Sossulsvlei/Deadvlei. Desert Camps is a self-catering hotel that features pretty comfortable bungalows/tents, with a little kitchen outside and barbecue place, in case you want to cook. Desert Camp offers really good value for the money and, specially, a great location -- it's one of the closest camps/hotels near the entrance of Namib Naukluft Park. Less than 10 minutes by car. So you don't have a drive long distances if you want to see the sunsire in the dune park. Regarding its facilities, Desert Camp has a small bar and a lovely swimming pool with a perfect view of Savannah and Namibian mountains right behind them. The rooms were clean and the bathroom was really big. Rooms have hot water, good towels, good linen in bed. Service was fine too (reception is open from 5h am to 10pm, but it's fine). Wifi works (300mb per day) in the common areas near the pool/reception. The fact the hotel is totally immerse into nature (without any walls or fences) creates an amazing view for its clients (specially during sunsets). You get a feeling that you're hosted in the middle of nowhere, which is exciting. The hotel does not have a restaurant, but if you don't want to cook your own meal, you can have dinner or lunch at the Sossusvlei Lodge, a nearby hotel who is owned by the same hotel operator (Taleni Africa). You can also pay your personal consumption by credit card, which is a good thing in case you ran out of cash. I had a great time in Desert Camp. Definitely recommended.

We initially picked the Desert Camp as it was the most affordable non-camping option close to Sossusvlei. However, it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. The location is stunning, looking across the plain to mountains all around. The 'tent' was very comfortable and private, and the option to cook for ourselves was very welcome after one too many buffets on our travels around Namibia!

You can get all of the cooking utensils you need from reception for a small deposit, and even order food to cook from an extensive list. The lodge is 5 minutes drive away if you fancy eating out - we tried the lunch buffet which was excellent.

The entrance gate to Sossuvlei is also only 5 minutes drive away, perfect if you want to get an early start (recommended as after 9am the heat really starts to build). There are also a few walking trails you can follow, which was lovely at sunset.

Really recommend the Desert Camp, and we'd definitely stay here again if we were in the area.

I stayed here as part of the tour organized by Chameleon Safaris and this is the best of all the places we've stayed at during the entire trip. It is conveniently located, approximately 3km away from the park.

All rooms have access to magnificent views of mountains, game, sunrise, sunset, and the stars. Each permanent tent has a bbq area but groups can make use of the bigger kitchens close to the pool.

There is a bar next to the pool where you can catch up on your favourite sport matches.

Oh, and there is free wifi in the middle of the desert! :)

We stayed here for two nights and went on a tour with the Adventure Center to Sossusvlei. The tour was very nice and the breakfast at Sossusvlei was really excellent. Staff was very friendly and well trained. The views are spectacular and the rains on the mountains and rainbows made it even more beautiful. The stars at night was incredible.
The tented rooms are lovely and spacious with comfortable beds and a sleeper couch for the kids. The fairly private seating area with a braai and the small kitchen has the best views over the surrounding area.

Room Tip: Room 1 is the furthest from the road. Although it did not bother us being closer to the road you do hear vehicles passing in the quiet times.

Magical place, great tented accommodation and beautiful lodge, with professional and friendly staff ... what can one ask for more?
The lodge has a bar and a medium size pool, ideal for cooling off after a day in the desert. They offer free wi fi from the main area, and a big tv for the soccer matches that hubby cannot miss.
The accommodation is tented but the bathroom is in a concrete part at the back with a large shower and private toilet area.
We had two small beds and a sleeper couch for our son, but enough room to move around still. There is a fan, but it is still hot and rather stay at the pool if you are not out on tour.
We had a BB option and the breakfasts are to be taken at the lodge, 5 kms away. We thought it was a bit inconvenient but really it is not, once you see the spread on offer you forget about the drive. They also packed a breakfast for us one day and there was enough food for a brunch, we loved the fact that we could have a picnic in the dunes, this made our experience extra special.
For dinner, you can go back to the lodge and enjoy the huge buffet spread (a bit expensive but really worth it as there is so much food and choice, started, main and dessert, once must be very hungry to appreciate it). We did this for the first night and enjoyed it immensely.
But the best was for the second night: we took the self catering option with the shopping list at desert camp - the food is ordered and mostly comes prepared but you still get to cook it and use the braai on your terrace and the fully equipped mini kitchen (deposit is kept at reception for utensils box); this was truly a great evening for parents and kid.
The only downside was the activities: we wanted to do some quad-biking or other tours but everything was fully booked, so rather be prepared and book in advance if you want to do something special.

Room Tip: Rather ask for the tents on the right side of the reception (1 to 6 I think) as you will get less noise from the vehicles leaving early.
