“Very good”
Reviewed 16 October 2013

We visited Frangokastello as a road trip for the day from Rethymnon via Imbros Gorge and back via the southern coast road. It was primarily to explore the castle which overlooks the beach. The castle cost 3 Euros to go in and although it does not contain very much, it is well worth the walk around. One thing to not miss is the view back towards the mountains from the castle tower; they are stunning.

Also, went down to the beach which was very good but also very hot - no wind and a sun trap.

“Stunning setting and wonderful sands”
Reviewed 8 October 2013 via mobile

Set below the bacdrop of an ancient Venetian castle and towering mountains, Frangocastello beach is a winner. The long sandy shore slopes gradually and safely into the warm sea waves. In the distance, to the east, are outlines of headlands and bays. To the west is the local harbour, with old watchtower and modern tavernas, occupying part of a safe sandy inlet. The sunbeds and umbrellas are qiite new and the area is well managed. The Fata Morgana taverna stands between the sand and the castle. Its toilets are clean and modern. It serves a good range of local food. Indeed, don't miss the Svakian cheese pie with honey!

“Lovely isolated spot”
Reviewed 5 August 2013

Worth the effort to get here with a great backdrop of the castle and mountains with a few quiet tavernas available for refreshments. Try to get here early to avoid the coach trips that tend to arrive after lunch.
