Oasis Apartments
Reviewed 16 July 2014

Started our holiday at the Oasis and what a great start. It's like the Greece we knew 30 years ago. Incredibly friendly, lovely apartments and a great taverna attached which is amazingly cheap. So different to the north side of the island with its money making attitude and lack of hospitality. Loved it. Tremendous value for money.

Room Tip: All good. Room 2 has perhaps a little too much foliage around the balcony.

Lovely clean family run apartments, with the fabulous attached taverna serving home cooked local food then it also serves well as a hotel (we didn't cook here, just used the fridge to store drinks and local fresh fruit!). The location is wonderfully peaceful, the beach literally 1 minute walk from the rooms and we never saw more than about 5 groups of people on it despite being here in August. The welcome and the sea both wonderfully warm, plenty of space in the rooms and on the verandas and balconies to soak up the atmosphere. Many of the people here with us had been coming to this same place for 15-20 years and it is easy to see why! A great place to decompress from life.

My husband and I stayed here for two weeks in early June this year and had an absolutely lovely time. We stayed in one of the upstairs balcony apartments that have three rooms, including a kitchen shower/toilet room, and bedroom with very comfortable beds. Downstairs are single studios with greek blue shutter doors which open out onto the beautiful garden. Our apartment was clean and functional with a gorgeous view. The photo's for this lovely quiet spot do not do it justice.
The owners and staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. We loved the sound of the sea and crickets sending us off to sleep each night, and the beautifully maintained grounds with a short stroll to the nearly empty beach...it really is a little patch of paradise. Each room has air conditioning if you should want it....honestly can not say enough about Oasis...simply lovely. The other residents during our visit (all older couples) stated they had all been returning to Oasis for 20 - 30 years and it's easy to see why. We would definitely recommend staying here and will return!

I have been a guest at the Oasis for over 25 years and am still a regular. The reasons why I keep returning are many. Here they are, in no particular order:

- Location: To me, there is simply no place I'd rather be. It is so very quiet here, one mainly only hears the ocean waves lapping onto the beach. The view from all of the upper apartments is gorgeous with completely unobstructed sea views. They have small balconies equipped with chairs and tables to enjoy it. The apartments on the lower floors look out toward the ocean as well but are more hidden away in the greenery (which makes for more shade, not a small advantage in the hot summer months). At night one can see countless stars in the sky - for me who lives in the city this is an especially wonderful treat.
- The apartments are all very clean and well kept. Each one has a kitchen with all the necessities, including an oven, stove, sink and fridge. Utensils as well as flatware and plates, etc. are also sufficiently supplied. Practical: Each apartment also has a laundry rack to hang your wet swimwear if needed.
- The bedrooms are air-conditioned, and those units are well-maintained, i.e. they don't rattle or are otherwise noisy (a huge plus in my book because I am easily disturbed by noisy air condition units). The beds feature practical mosquito netting.
- The small bathrooms have showers and are kept immaculately clean, something that is very important to me as well.
- All upper apartments have separate entrances with gorgeous bougainvilleas growing between them and beautiful blue doors, contrasting so nicely with the white-washed walls of the building (see uploaded images).
- The sandy beach is literally a few hundred yards/meters away and there are no roads to cross in-between - it is simply a path leading through nature and I have never seen the beach over-crowded either.
- Lastly, there is the adjoining, excellent Oasis tavern which serves fabulous Cretan cuisine but also breakfast with good, strong Greek coffee (or cappuccino, espresso...) - it doesn't get anymore convenient than that.

The Oasis always has been an excellent value for the money. The place is great for families on a budget, small children but also couples seeking a quiet, relaxing vacation. One can either self-cater or eat out at the Oasis tavern or one of the many other taverns around. I recommend this place 100 %.

Room Tip: Great views from the upper apartments but they also get warmer because they are directly under the r...
