“Beautiful BnB”
Reviewed 2 September 2017 for a stay in August 2017

We appreciated Rose's generosity and warmth from the moment we stepped in from the rain. The rooms are very spacious, clean, cozy, and comfortable and the views out to the mountains are lovely. Beautiful home and very convenient to the town itself.

“We felt at home.”
Reviewed 16 August 2017 for a stay in July 2017

We stayed in Highfield House while hiking the Beara Way In July 2017. Our room was spotless and very comfortable. Rose was a great host. She offered us tea upon our arrival, which made us feel very welcome after a long hike. Breakfast was outstanding. Thank you and we hope to see you again.

“Probably a nice B&B, but it didn't work for us”
Reviewed 31 July 2017 for a stay in July 2017

We got a good impression of Highfield House when we arrived: a friendly owner, who gave us a cup of tea and biscuits on arrival, a big room with modern decoration, a nice setting looking out over Irish mountains.

Unfortunately our one-night stay was ruined by the hordes of marauding children (the owner's grandchildren) who were also staying – at least 4 of them, all under the age of about 8. From the time we arrived, about 4pm, until well into the evening, these kids were being kids: running around, yelling, plus for at least an hour they seemed to be trampolining in the room directly above ours (We could come up with no other explanation for the noise); imagine wooden floors, and then the ceiling of our room being thin too.

We could have put up with this for an hour or so, but they just didn't stop, and when they were still running around after 10.30 at night, we felt we had to go and ask for them to be settled down.

If you like the idea of visiting a B&B where you're in the bosom of an Irish family, then maybe this is the place for you. However, we wanted some peace and quiet, and felt that the owner should have either not taken our booking, or reorganised her family visit. We did get a good breakfast and packed lunch (and an apology) the next day.

Some other small criticisms are that although the bedroom and bathroom was generally clean, there were some shelves in the bathroom that didn't seem to have been cleaned for months. For those who like such things, there was no TV in our room (which personally we didn't mind – although it might have helped to block out the sound of the kids), nor tea/coffee making facilities. There was allegedly wifi, but the signal in our room was so weak as to be practically useless.

Finally, the duvet on our bed was very thin, and although it was July, that doesn't necessarily mean much in Ireland, so we had to get an extra blanket from the cupboard to feel warm enough.

If these last criticisms had been the only things wrong, we would have given a higher score; it was really the issue with the children that makes us give the scores that we do.

“Fantastic B&B”
Reviewed 8 July 2017 for a stay in May 2017

I stayed in Highfield House for two nights in May during a cycling weekend in Beara. I can't recommend this B&B highly enough.
The rooms were spotless and very comfortable, and our bathroom even had a bath.
The breakfast was outstanding, and Rose was a wonderful host. She even washed our cycling gear for us!

Beara has to be one of the most beautiful places in the world, and Ardgroom is a great base to discover it from. There's a great pub in the village, and a village shop and cafe that has lots of local, fair-trade and organic produce. There is an excellent restaurant a short drive away in Eyeries.
