Quite nice "pousada", bed & breakfast style. It is located at the "Praia da Espera" beach in Itacimirim, a nice place, not crowded (at least at the period we stayed at - September) and with no high volume music (thanks God).

A not-so-good thing about the place is the cleanliness of the beach/sand, especially right in front of the "pousada". During our stay we noticed that there were some used cans, coconuts and plastic bags in the sand, but neither public services or "pousada's" employees had it cleaned. It was not too much trash, but additional caring is welcome. Another thing: we saw some dogs freely circulating in the beach (seemed to belong to locals as they were there almost everyday) so, if you are a beachwalker, be careful when walking on the sand for not stepping in... dog's **** (we saw some, unfortunately).

The "pousada" has a swimming pool - not big but nice - and a restaurant (average food and slightly high prices - breakfast is good and included in room rate). The owners administer the place by themselves so they are always nearby (for this reason I expected a quite better warming atmosphere, which was not true at times).

About the room, we stayed at number 12, which is beach-facing. It is the room to be stayed at if you want to be next to sand and want to sleep hearing the waves, but due to the proximity to the beach and the winds, it is very humid... Make sure to have the windows opened during the day for the air to circulate.

About the waves, they are strong so take care when going into water, and do not allow children to go alone.

We spent two nights at this quiet pousada, right on the beach with ever-present sound of the waves. The courtyard area is comfortable and welcoming with a beautiful blue-tiled pool. The room features a king-sized bed and veranda (we were in a second floor room) with table and two chairs, and a hammock in the closet ready to set up if you prefer. It's a quick drive to Praia do Forte with all its restaurants and shopping; it's quite a hike to walk there and you must coordinate with low tide. The ocean was too wild for swimming during our stay, but made for great sound effects. The breakfast was excellent; we did not have dinner in the restaurant so cannot comment. Beware additional charges: whirlpool spa sounded great until we learned it was 50 reais per hour per person--ridiculous! The fitness center has a good selection of equipment and free weights.

Room Tip: If a second floor room, ask for one with a less obstructed view of the ocean (palm fronds obscure so...

We just got back from a five day stay over the Carnaval holiday. Went with another couple from São Paulo. The first great thing about Jambo is that it is so easy to get to. A two hour flight from SP, and a 45 minute taxi ride to the pousada (although I will say I thought that R$300,00, or around US$150.00 was a bit steep for a round trip taxi to and from the pousada).
First of all, if you are looking for a huge beach resort with water aerobics, poolside dancing, and unlimited activities for your kids, you're better off looking elsewhere. This is the perfect place to just do nothing other than lying in the sun, walking on the beach, eating and drinking (lovely caipirinhas poolside, try the "caju com limão"). In addition, the charming, but a bit crowded and touristy village at Praia do Forte is a mere ten minutes from here, with plenty of "action" and decent local food.
The rooms are quite comfortable, with king sized beds, our room had a flat screen tv, although I don't think we even turned it on, free wi-fi, good showers with solar heated water, etc. DO opt for an upstairs room, they have nice varandas and a 180º view of the beach and ocean.
The food at the restaurant is also quite good, try the "aipim frito", which is fried manioc root. Delicious. So is the "moqueca" a local fish or shrimp stew made with palm oil.
All in all a really relaxing stay at a charming local. The beach is fantastic, even during the crowded Carnaval weekend.
My only complaint, and the only thing that keeps me from giving Jambo 5 stars, are the bath towels. They were like sandpaper, which after a long day in the sun, and sensitive skin, can be umpleasant when it comes to drying yourself. A small investment like nice soft towels would go a long way!
Thanks Iolanda and family for a wonderful stay!

Room Tip: Top floor for sure!

I've just came back from this secluded pousada, which is a really gem at Praia da Espera, Itacimirim, Bahia.
This "pousada"is owned by a very nice couple, the german Arno and his wife, the beautiful and lovely brasilian Iolanda. They pay attention to every details to make the clients(we feel more like friends) happier as possible.
The beach is excellent, green and calm waters.
The rooms very nice as well the breakfast and the restaurant , that serves brazilian and german food!!!
I would come back again and again and for sure recommend to my friends and family.
Nice stay, wonderful and calm place to have reenergising vacation.

We went to Jambo for a week-long visit with another couple. We had three kids with us, all under the age of 6. The pousada is not completely set up for kids (one of ours broke a ceramic fruit on the way in--kid-height, kid-attractive, and there is no play area for kids) but was friendly enough to them. We arrived on a Saturday, when the place was about half full, and by Sunday we were the only people there until Thursday night when people arrived for the long holiday weekend of October 12.

The rooms we stayed in (5 and 6 on lower floor) were fine, though small for the family with two kids. Bathroom is extremely small. Main complaints on the room: no screens so you cannot leave the windows open to hear the ocean (you can hear it anyway but not as well as you might) and get a breeze, and also the ceiling fan is not over the bed so we were forced to use air conditioning more than we would have if there had been a fan and screens. Rooms were clean and pleasant enough. Maybe if the pousada had been full these rooms next to the pool would be loud, but it was empty when we were there.

Pool is pretty small, if the pousada is full, I would imagine it's tight. But of course you have a huge ocean in front of you, the waves are small (great for kids), the sand lovely and there is enough shell hunting to keep little ones happy. Jambo is right on a public pathway to the ocean, and one day there were quite a few locals doing their own barbecue and party in the sand (the holiday) but it was not a problem at all. Loooong beach. Supposedly you can walk to Praia do Forte when the tide is low but we didn't make it all the way there. There are little beach "barracas" or huts for snacks going both directions...the ones to the "left" or north were closed during the week because there were not many people.

I did not find the owners very friendly or helpful, as I often find owners of small inns or pousadas. I asked the Brazilian wife owner for a recommendation of a capoeira teacher (friends who had been there before contracted one to teach their kids during their vacation) and she responded rudely that such things must be planned in advance but that she would check on it...yet she never got back to me or mentioned it again. She never once said good morning to us even though the two owners ate in the restaurant every day. The German husband owner was slightly friendlier, after a week in the pousada he gave us a free bottle of wine at the last night's dinner.

Food was very good in general, especially a gnocchi and a pasta with shrimp. The options for children are non-existent, and they tried to help by making plain pasta and beef but these frequently came with sauces or onions that the kids won't eat. I really got the feeling that this is a place that would disallow kids if it could.

Aside from all the small details that I mention as annoyances, the pousada is lovely, has great lounge chairs to watch the ocean, the kids LOVED the beach and pool and waves. And the pousada is really right on the ocean. You can hear the waves everywhere and all the time.

10 minutes from Praia do Forte, $40 reais cab ride. We left only once to see the turtles.

Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Might want to choose an upstairs room or one farther away from the pool.

Beautiful pousada right at the beach. Very quiet place, beautiful beach and the pousada is very well kept, everything is clean, well organized and nicely decorated. We had a top floor room with view to the sea. The pousada has also a nice garden with a pool and comfortable chairs. Breakfast is great, there is a large buffet with different fruits, juices, pastries, bread and so on. The restaurant is alright and the staff generally very friendly. If you look for a quiet and beautiful hideaway this is the perfect location.

Our second time at this wonderful Pousada. heaven on earth and by the warm sea. staff so friendly and attentive, food and wine excellent brought to your room if you are too lazy to walk the few pace to the dining room! Iola and Arno attentive hosts with good sense of humour.
Very family and child friendly all in beautifuk gardens within 10 m of the beach and rolling surf.
A two hour beach walk with river crossing at low tide brings you to the bussling life of Praia do Forte and the turtle sanctuary.
We will be back. John and Sarah
