We stayed at Birdie's nest for the first week of November 2009. We chose to stay here partially because of the excellent reviews we saw on mytobago.com. Having stayed there, I have to say that Prince lived up to our expectations, even though as a result of the reviews, they were high. He was excellent. The place was immaculate, clean, and well equipped. The location is just great.
Prince took the time to help us get settled (took us to a bank to draw local currency, grocery shopping (he bought us "doubles" while we were shopping - they were delicious), took us to buy a snorkel, and showed us around a bit for orientation. He also spent some time in the evenings helping us to plan our week, and was a mine of useful information. We rented a car from him. He took us on a tour - I could go on and on. He was an absolute pleasure, and it's apparent that he loves Tobago and he does want folks that stay with him, to have a good experience overall. He certainly does what he can to enable that.
Our main reason for going down to tabogo was for snorkelling. Prince helped us to identify the best snorkelling spots, and to do them. He personally took us to 2 of them, another couple we did with the car we rented from him for a day, and the others we could walk to. It was fantastic.
The bottom line is that we would go back and stay at Birdie's Nest in a heart beat. Prince is a very good host, and very good person.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Birdie's Nest holiday apartments are a gem, tucked away beside the beach on the Caribbean coast of Tobago, at Great Courland Bay. Located at the end of a country lane, our apartment house is quiet and secluded, but not remote. Far away enough away from the village to hear just the sound of the birds and the ocean, yet near enough to enjoy the village steelband, a Carib beer at the local "rum shop", or church on Sunday! This is the real West Indies. The real Tobago. This is Birdie's Nest. Birdie's Nest beach house sits on the shoreline, facing the sea. It is perched on a slight slope and enjoys a clear, cool, elevated view of the beach and the ocean. It is a typical two-storey West Indian house, divided into three beach holiday apartments. A single two-bedroom apartment occupies the entire upper floor of the house. The lower floor is divided into two one-bedroom self-contained apartments with lockable dividing door enabling them to be converted into another spacious two-bedroom accommodation when required. ... more less
