“Hard to beat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 July 2014

Add a brilliant location, charming host, delightful rooms and great rates and you have a combination that is hard to beat.

We could only spend 2 days there and had to force ourselves to leave.

Where else can all your tensions and stresses simply disappear in less than 24 hours.

We will be back .. Peter & Louise

It was my first visit to Tobago, to Castara and to the Naturalist Beach resort. I stayed for 2 weeks and had a good time.
The rooms are nicely done, the place has hot water, air condition, wifi, offers breakfast and a cleaning service for the clothes.
It's directly at the beach, you can hear the waves rolling on the beach and have great views over the bay.
The staff are very friendly.
On my second day, the air condition in my room acted up and failed to do its job. I was immediatly upgraded to another room. No fuss about it at all. So, I first stayed in room 'Jack' and then upgraded to 'Dolphin'. Both rooms were clean, with sufficient kitchen equipment, and overall absolutely fine.
If I have to find a fault, it would be that TV reception is pretty bad. Only some of the rooms have cable. The others are relying on antenna and only receive two channels, at a rather low quality. But normally, you don't come here to watch TV, do you ;-)?

The little village of Castara offers a good infrastructure. A couple of mini-markets for water, bread, fruits, etc., an ATM, some little restaurants.

Room Tip: If you want to have an ocean view, mention it in your reservation. There are 4 or so units without d...

We stayed in Castara for 2 weeks in this resort and have to be honest I loved it! Safe, clean (everyday cleaning), spectacular views, helpful staff and friendly people in the village. The village have everything u might require (if you are not keen on 5* hotels) - atm, bus connections, car rental, restaurants, shops, coral reefs, golden sand beaches, rainforest walks and many more...Naturalist is a quiet place where to stay with occasional possibilities of liming. As far as I know the rooms vary from a double bed to 3 bedroom apartments. Every apartment have a kitchen which can be useful for morning coffee or a wee cooking. Air conditioned rooms!

Everything about Castara and The Naturalist exceeded our expectations! We stayed in Wahoo room, which we loved! Great views, large shared verandah and also a smaller private lanai just off the bedroom. Excellent attention to detail throughout Wahoo. Well appointed kitchen that we used daily (including treats in the fridge upon arrival left by management - thank you!). If you love to be lolled to sleep by the waves and love clean comfy air conditioned rooms, you'll adore Wahoo and The Naturalist. Ancle & Tracy are wonderful and interesting hosts that we enjoyed spending time with. Prompt airport pick up & delivery and a vehicle to rent right on site at the inn. Castara is easy to navigate by foot, everyone (residents & visitors alike) is welcoming and the bread is delicious! We wandered by car around the island several of the days but always looked forward to coming back to play in the gorgeous water just steps from our room, relax on the verandah and marvel at the view. If you must wash dishes, the view from Wahoo is the one you want from the sink! Also - nice flat screen TVs with lots of channels (to check baseball scores!). We bought groceries most days in Castara and used the kitchen a lot - breakfast comes with the room. As for a restaurant, The Boat House serves THE BEST food. You can swim to it just around to the little bay or walk up and down the hill to it from The Naturalist. The only thing that I would have liked access to was a little swimming pool to dip in after being at the beach all day but that is not a complaint! We would highly recommend The Naturalist for an authentic, relaxing and comfortable Tobago experience.

Room Tip: Wahoo is wonderful - large shared verandah and a smaller private deck just out the bedroom door. La...

Castara Bay is breathtaking. The white-sand beach is home to a relaxed and friendly fishing village. The best place to stay is the Naturalist Beach Resort. It has several apartments right on the beach, steps from great snorkelling and swimming. I stayed in the Blue Marlin suite, with a wonderful veranda overlooking the whole beach. The louvred windows open fully on three sides so the view can be enjoyed from inside as well. The Naturalist has cars available for rent, and the friendly management and staff can arrange airport and ferry pickups. I will be back!

My wife and I just spent 3 nights at the Naturalist Beach Resort and absolutely loved it. By far the best value we encountered on Tobago. Castara is absolutely beautiful and has a nice balance of not-too-touristy but still with enough amenities to feel comfortable.

We stayed 3 nights in the newer complex of apartments (the 'Snapper' 2 Bdr apt) which has amazing views of Castara bay from the seriously huge balcony. it must be 15x15' and offers ample shade all day.

Great shade, comfy beds... the only small complaint was the slightly small main bed - A kingsize would be ideal, but that's a small compromise for an otherwise amazing spot.

And we felt very well taken care of by the excellent concierge/manager Tracy. She helped arrange tours and gave excellent advice on our other travel plans.

This is the kind of place that I would go back to year after year and never tire of it:)

Room Tip: They have a variety of options depending on your budget - the newest apartments are definitely worth...

Simply the best in Castara if not all of Tobago. Large rooms, well equipped, outstanding views - right on the beach. Tracy the receptionist was great as was Ancle the owner - kind, understanding and extremely pleasant. A great host with a brilliant attitude towards his guests. Cannot fault anything about this place. Everything was clean and comfortable. I am delighted with all aspects of The Naturalist. Price included breakfast too!!!!

Room Tip: The views were fantastic so its well worth getting a room with a view
