We had a lovely time at SeaScape thank you. The apartment had the best views of anywhere we've ever stayed before - just fabulous! We really liked Castara and felt it was definitely the best place to stay on the island. Rolling and his wife were extremely helpful - on the first morning we had a problem with no water but Rolling was there to fix it within about 30mins. So we would heartily recommend SeaScape (although maybe not for people with mobility issues!).
Castara is a lovely and quiet place in Tobago. This wooden cosy house completes the atmosphere perfectly. It is highly recommendable. We didn't want to leave....
Manager and owner are very kind and ready to please you.
Altamente recomendable, bella y acogedora casa.
Will comeback for sure... :)
This has been our third visit to Seascape! We stayed from June 1-18 at Wavesong (1 bdrm apt) and as always was not disappointed. The 18 days went by rather quickly, too fast for us. Castara is a small fishing village on the north coast of Tobago, a very laid back lifestyle with no hustle and bustle. The apartment is located on Heavenly (Little) Bay and Castara Beach is a few minutes walk or you can swim across.
As usual, David was very efficient with booking and arranging our accommodations. The experience was seamless and the level of service was very professional yet personable. This made the difference for us and is part of the reason why we have been back to Seascape every year for the last 3 years.
We took the ferry to Scarborough from Trinidad, fare per person was $50TT, the trip was just over two hours and well worth the experience. The ferry was clean, comfortable and lots of seating. Lavorne meet us at the ferry, took us to the supermarket and brought us to Wavesong. If you wanted to be adventurous, you could take the local bus from Scarborough to Castara, one-way fare is about $6TT. Since we were staying for over two weeks we opted to being picked up. The ferry trip was a positive experience and we would certainly do it again.
All the reviews on tripadvisor are accurate. What can I say about Wavesong that I have not said before? It's like coming home!!! Personally, I want comfort and to be happy in my choice of accommodation. Seascape has not disappointed us and provides an amazing view overlooking the ocean, the sound of the waves day and night, the tropical birds, roosters, dogs barking, and amazing Tobagonians. Our time at Seascape gets better and better every year.
Our most difficult decision every morning was to decide which beach we would go to. We were worry-free for 17 days..... Most of this trip was spent at Castara Bay, hanging out in the village and watching the fishermen bring their catch to sell. We did a few day trips to Scarborough, rented a boat from Castara to Charlotteville (for the day) and did the No Mans Land day trip with Ali Baba. On previous trips, we have been to No Man's Land, but Ali Baba's day trip far exceeds any of the other tours that we have been on. He is very knowledgeable, makes sure that all his guests are looked after and the level of service he provided supersedes any of the Tobago tours we have been on. Kudos to him!
We have made a few friends over the course of three years and amazing memories. Remember you are on a tropical island, take your time to enjoy your surroundings, learn the culture but most of all get to know the locals. Villagers I never meet before seem to remember us, we had many comments "eh eh yuh back". They were very proud and glad to hear how much we love Castara and had to come back.
To all the fishermen in Castara, especially Johnny, Smiley, and Grey Rasta Thank You! We made it home safe, we left one empty suitcase in Castara and opted for the fish.
Let's see what Castara has to offer us in 2016!!!!!
We had a wonderful stay at the Sunset apartment. My parents really enjoyed their first visit to Castara. The apartment is in the perfect location and is beautifully appointed. Great views, lots of bird life and spotting sting rays from our living area. The kitchen was well equipped and we were very happy with the quality of the accommodation and furnishings etc. Rolling and Lavorne were also very accommodating and pleasant. The only thing that could have made it even better would be the addition of a balcony with hammocks off the main living area! We'll definitely be back!
We traveled as a couple in may 2015. Seascape and the Sunset apt were exactly what they were made out to be and exceeded all our expectations. The unit is very clean, breezy, comfortable and safe. The seabreeze eliminated any need for air conditioning and neither of us were ever too warm. The views from the living room/dining table were amazing. Sitting on the upstairs patio watching the sunset was a highlight of our entire trip and possibly the nicest view I have seen in all my travels. The view is spectacular down the hilly coast and overlooking the beach and bay where stingrays could be seen swimming mere feet from shore and hundreds of birds dive for fish while other brightly colored ones would land right on the railing. We cooked most of our meals in the apartment and it felt as if we were staying in our own cottage.
The town itself is quite nice as well. Neither of us felt unsafe walking, even at night. The locals we did meet were friendly and Castara has a very traditional, relaxed fishing village feel. No starbucks or McDonalds. The town is quite hilly so if mobility is limited that could be a concern. We had no trouble however.
Englishmans Bay, which was totally empty, is a short drive away and worth a trip. The castara waterfall with its fish and freshwater crabs is also a must see and just a short peaceful walk through the woods.
Booking with the Owner David was exceedingly simply, all emails were responded to within hours. The onsite husband and wife managers were very pleasant, helpful and were easy to get ahold of.
We would certainly recommend making Seascape your accommodation if you are looking to get away from tourist traps and really feel at home in a beautiful setting.
My sister and I had a wonderful stay in the Wave Song suite in April. David was readily available to answer all of our questions via email, and Laverne and Rolling were so kind and helpful during our stay.
We cooked almost all of our meals while there, and found that the suite had everything we needed. There is also a lovely fruit stand just up the hill where you can get delicious fresh baked bread and roti on certain days.
The view from the suite was absolutely stunning and we kept all of the windows open to the ocean for most of our stay. From what I could tell while there, seascape has the best location of any accommodation in Castara - some of the locals said this too. The people in Castara were open and friendly, and we felt welcomed and safe the entire stay. The beach was incredible, and just a 1 minute walk from the suite, so you could easily go for a swim and come back and enjoy sitting out on the balcony.
Unfortunately, while we were there, my sister was recovering from a bad knee injury, so I will say that the suite itself, and the town in general could pose difficulties for anyone with mobility issues. Fitness enthusiasts will love it though - I got quite the workout jogging in Castara with all of the hills. We were glad in the end that we booked a suite with such good amenities and such a breathtaking and open view, because even without being able to get around much, my sister was able to enjoy her stay just spending most of the time in the suite.
All in all, seascape is an incredible spot and has everything you would need to enjoy a quick getaway or for a longer stay - if you are so lucky. I hope to come back next year.
We stayed at seascape for 4 nights, we would have stayed longer if it were available (the next hotel we stayed in was a serious step down). This place is so beautiful, we had little reason to leave (only to swim and gather supplies). We stayed with our son, and the manages did a great job baby proofing the balcony for us (Thank you!)
Castara is a wonderful, easy place to stay. The supplies at the local stores are enough (no need to come with anything other than coffee).
