This place absolutely made our stay at Mahe even better. We stayed here 8 nights and didn't regret once that we chose this place.

Staff is very very friendly and always took time to talk to us and give us good hints for places to go. Breakfast was served on our terrace every morning from 7.30 to 9.30. Only problem was that we some times had to wait quite some time for our breakfast as every body else wanted their breakfast at the same time. As we were travelling with a baby we wanted to get out the door before it was nap time again, and with late breakfast this made it difficult. We found out the best way was to go and tell the girls that we were ready for breakfast and they would serve us first.

The place was very clean upon arrival but could have wished for a bit better cleaning during the week. Also towels were supposed to be changed every three days but were only changed once during our stay.

Location is absolute perfect. You only have to cross the main road and you are at the beach. Also it is very close to several restaurants and right next to Popular Boat House.

The villas are spacy and nice. Beds are horrible though, but bed rooms are at least with a/c. For families with small children it's a great place, as you can cook dinner for them in the small kitchen. It has everything you need to cook a small meal.

We loved the place and would definitely choose this place again, if we were to come back.

We stayed there with 4 friends back in November 2010 for 6 days and we thoroughly enjoyed the apartments. They are very spacious and nice, bathrooms are very big and clean. Location is very good, few steps from Beau Vallon Beach , close to Baobab Pizzeria (cheap and reasonable pizza) and right next to the Boat House buffet restaurant (this was not our favourite unfortunately - yes you can eat as much as you want and the food is relatively cheap, but not particularly tasty..). Bord Mer Villa was our last stop in the Seychelles. Before we stayed on Praslin (similar standard apartments) and La Digue (better standard house) and Bord Mer Villa was the most expensive of all three hence only 4 stars for value. 4 stars for sleep quality as well as it's very close to the road and you can hear cars - it was very noticable after very quiet Praslin and almost car free La Digue! In summary I would recommend it. It is a little friendly place nearly right on the beach. I wouldn't stay there longer than a week though..it is a lot better to spend a week there, a week on Praslin and 3-4 days on La Digue as all three islands are different and all worth seeing!

Bord Mer Villa is made up of 4 Duplexes, 7 Units that are very large, clean and modern. At 135 Euros per night during low season this is a comparative bargain. Staff serve you breakfast on the balcony each day. You could fit an elephant in the shower. Located across from the Beau Vallon beach, it is optimally located. The surrounding buildings will not impress you, but don't interfere with the experience. I stayed at the Panorama guest house for 120 Euros/night and there is no comparison.

We found the apartments very comfortable and better than we expected. The staff was very kind and the breakfast at the terrace was the best way to start the day.
I was a bit dissapointed with Beau Vallon and its beach, but if you want to stay in that area, no doubt you should choose Bord Mer Villa

We stayed for a week with two year old and four year old kids. The accommodation was great for them, the second room was a good double size, cot that was provided was fine and accommodation was spacious, clean, light and very safe for children (we have stayed in branded family resorts in Europe that specifically cater for young children and we had much more issues with these!) and airconditioning worked fine.

Breakfast was absolutely great - we have been fortunate to come to the Seychelles many times due to family background and have stayed at some of the higher end hotels in la digue, praslin, desroches and alphonse and this beat the lot - plenty of choice for kids, and breakfast was plentiful, great variety and fresh, and the coffee is very recommended. Importantly, as sometimes lacking in the Seychelles, the staff were very friendly and attentive.

Whilst the accommodation has few amenities itself, you really don't miss wifi, phones etc. The cable tv is fine and fulfills all the telly-addict need. The wonderful beau vallon beach is a minute away,so who really cares about a pool (though you could always go up to the Coral Strand). it would be helpful to have a little bit more information about restaurants, local supermarkets, local events, taxis etc locally, and a couple of extra bits of equipment in the kitchen (toaster, tea towels) but this is a very new guesthouse and I am sure that all this would come in time.

Reasonable amount of choice for eating out, but with young kids tended to have lunch at Coral Strand Hotel and evening meal at the Baobab pizzeria across the road (partly as it starts it service earlier at 7pm and you can have a nice stroll at sunset along the beach to get there)

Finally, for value for money, I very much doubt the cost of this accommodation for two double rooms for the standard of accommodation is beaten elsewhere on Mahe. If you are planning to go to the Seychelles with young kids then this is one of the few accommodations that will be suitable as you can get two rooms in a self contained appartment - you will struggle to get something suitable with many hotels (and many do not allow young children anyway....)

The Bord Mer was my first stop on arrival in Mahe and surprised me. Owned by a Seychellois family, where several members operate guest houses and bed and breakfast establishments, it is now just about half a year old and already enjoys at times more demand than the can accommodate in their 7 rooms.
Located right next to the sweeping Beau Vallon beach, access to which is across a modestly busy road, it offers the central location needed to explore the island, by car, by foot or through one of the many available organized tours.
Enda, the 'factotum general', overwhelmed me, and the other guests, with her all embracing friendliness and her constant smiles and giggles, and as a 'live in' she was available from morning till late evening, attending to guests' wishes and needs.
Breakfast is normally served on either the terrace or the balcony, depending if one stays upstairs or in the garden facing downstairs rooms, and features tea of coffee, fresh fruit juice, freshly cut fruits, cereals if wanted, eggs cooked to order, toast and a delicious home made guava jam. They would not part with the family recipe so I managed to take a little with me to try replicate it at home, knowing that the attempt is likely doomed to failure.
The few staff were all 'smiley', not the grumpy looks I observed in a 'resort hotel' a little distance away at the beach - more about that in a separate review. The rooms were well equipped with all essentials , and showed the owner's female hand in all aspects, starting from the frangipani flowers sprinkled on the bed or set on green leaves everywhere in the room and bathroom. Good matresses and pillows, essential for me, spacious, well aired and of course air conditioned.
Satellite wide screen TV is available in the rooms of course but why waste time when in the Seychelles to watch television? No house phones, but also not needed as a step on the balcony, or terrace, and a call to Enda, is all that is needed to get attention or place an order for some juice or a cup of tea. Internet access is possible in near by 'internet cafes' though not at Bord Mer directly.
A kitchenette, equipped with all the basics including microwave, hot plates, kettle and fridge/freezer permits guests to cook, should they wish, but again, why do that? Next door is the 'original' Creole restaurant, the 'Boat House' where every day a Creole buffet is on offer made with the freshest ingredients - bookings are recommended though as the place can burst at the seams with guests, many of them in fact Seychellois, speaking for the genuine appeal the food has to locals too. Across the road is the Al Mare restaurant, informally set right on the beach. They offer seafood but also continental dishes from an extensive menu, and if that is not enough, another restaurant with 'Italian' bias is only a few steps further away. Near he Bord Mer are small Seychellois run shops which offer a range of food stuffs and drinks to stock up for the daily excursions to the beach or across the island, and a whole lot of guest houses and bed and breakfast establishments can be found, some even with a pool, in the immediate vicinity of Bord Mer. The Seychelles Tourist Board www.seychelles.com has an entire section dedicated to such smaller and indigenously owned establishments, which I understand formed the backbone of the 'Affordable Seychelles' campaign launched last year.
It was refreshing to see that walks on the beach are possible without the menace experienced on some of the Kenya beaches, the so called 'beach boys', who are notorious to harass and accost and take a hundred 'go away please' NOT for an answer. Along the Seychelles beaches this is thankfully not a feature.
I can recommend Bord Mer in particular for independent minded travellers wanting to explore the island with a rented car, or taking to the hiking trails through the tropical forests across the mountains, as other than bed and breakfast there is no other included or paid for component which has to be partaken of like in the conventional beach resorts, leaving real time to go and explore. The Seychellois people must be amongst the most contended I have seen in a long time, ever willing to help with directions, or with a flat tyre, and happily answering to a 'good morning' or 'good afternoon'.
A final word, roaming services are not generally available for mobile phones but SIM cards can be purchased easily, against proof of identity and the communications operators across the various islands are giving signals in most places. Internet access is rather more expensive than in many other places due to the continued use of satellite connections, as no fibre optic cables have reached Mahe yet.
