We stayed in the upper self catering studio for four nights at the end of our holiday and the hosts kindly picked us up from the jetty.
The accommodation was perfect, nice and clean, everything looked brand new and was spacious and nicely laid out, amazing view (although be aware that it's not completely unobscured), with everything that you need, including air conditioning (which you really do need to have in the Seychelles although you probably won't need it on all the time), a fan, TV with some decent channels. The hosts had kindly provided some supplies - bread, eggs, milk, juice, tea, sugar, salt, pepper, cooking oil. This was really great, and having spent a month staying in self catering around the Seychelles most of them don't even provide any salt (it's a mystery to me why not). There was also hand wash in the bathroom and some body wash for the shower.
I can see that the family has listened to comments in previous reviews - so there is now a safe and free wifi, which worked as well as anywhere on the island. In that spirit would have been good to have a wooden spoon and some small plates (not a criticism just a suggestion).
The accommodation was cleaned every day when we were out.
There is a pool but due to the weather when we were there we didn't get the chance to try it out.
The family lives next door to the accommodation (it's all within one compound) and were always available and helpful if we needed anything. We really appreciated the mangos from the garden that Doris gave us before we left. They were delicious!
Some things to be aware of in terms of location:
It is up a very steep hill in a residential area. It took us 15 minutes to walk down and we didn't time how long it took to walk up. It was doable but you wouldn't want to do it more than once a day. When you first arrive particularly the heat would make it more difficult. You should be aware also that there are a lot of dogs on the way that did bark as we passed but that was all, and after a couple of days they got used to us. It's worth knowing in case someone has a particular dog phobia. We didn't want to hire a car as it was the end of the holiday and we'd already been around the island but it would be worth hiring a car in the Seychelles to explore anyway, at least for a few days and would help with getting your supplies in.
If you do want to get a bus anywhere (just 5 rupees for a journey), there is a bus stop at the bottom of the hill and it's just ten minutes to Victoria. Buses in the Seychelles finish early in the evening, but seem to run a bit later in this area.
The positive about being so high up is that you get a great view of both the coast and the mountain.
Beau Vallon is the most lively location in Mahe with a good swimming beach. There are some nice takeaway stalls along the walkway in front of the beach where you can get local food at cheap prices including fresh grilled fish (unbelievably not that easy to get in the Seychelles!).
Taking into account the steep hill I would 100% recommend this accommodation as excellent value in one of the best locations in the Seychelles and with very nice and helpful hosts.
My daughters and I stayed here for 2 weeks and had the best time ever. The accommodation was excellent, spotlessly clean and well equipped.Access to the swimming pool was a lovely bonus after returning from the beach and had a beautiful view. The owners were very friendly and helpful especially when i woke to find a flat tyre on my hire car and the husband changed it for me.Easy access to beach albeit a steep hill to climb back up to appartment but that helped to burn a few calories after indulging in some of delicious food to be found at the beach side at Beau Vallon.Thank you very much for making us so welcome and definitely was a holiday made of so many memories.
Amazing place to stay. Ideal if you rent a car. Lovely backdrop on mountains and beach view. Loved it.
We stayed 5 nights in February and it was absolutely perfect. Nice view on Beau Vallon and nearby islands. The place is very clean and comfortable. Mick and Doris are very nice and friendly. Mick picked us up at the airport. He was on time, waiting for us with a sign with my name. Since he has a pick up truck, it was easy to load all our suitcases. Mick has a very interesting conversation and we spent many hours talking together. We spoke in creole but they are both perfectly fluent in English and French.
Doris arranged the car rental for us. I highly recommend you choose a car with a powerful engine and an automatic gearbox. Roads in the Seychelles can be extremely steep: Even though I am 6 feet tall, I sometimes had to lift my butt from the seat to see the road when driving back to DM Appparments!
We stayed at D&M Apartment for 8 nights as a family of 4 (children 7 and 5). The photos on the website don't do it justice. The garden and pool are gorgeous, the kitchen extremely well equipped and it has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms which are kept immaculate. Doris was very helpful and the apartment is really well located for exploring the island and easy access to amazing beaches (especially sunset beach). Car needed. Highly recommended and excellent value!
